A trade I would wish dubas had the cohonas to make.
To Washington —- marner and Reilly
To the leafs. —— kuznetsov (2.5m retained)
Wilson ,vanechek.
Why Caps do this — to get premier setup man for ovi to get him to career lead in goals scored. And dman to try out for a year alongside carleson
Why Leafs do this — kuznetsov moves to LW. Wilson replaces hyman. Back up goaltender and hopefully starter in Cpl years. And if course main reason is cap relief to sign hamilton and fill out rest of lineup

I think this is the type of trade that we lose but we end up better in long run. we can use the cap space for areas of need while the trade still helps leafs fill out the roster

Love it

Impact wise, Sandin is actually probably pretty close. Defensively poor, offensively very good.

Also, there's no way that Sandin's going back to the AHL considering the fact that Keefe had him above Dermott in depth chart by the end of the season.

Sandin has 2 major issues with his game and only one of them is fixable. He is too nonchalant with the puck in thinking he has more time than he really does...that he can fix pretty easily.

The other is his skating ...it is horrifically slow IMO. I don't think it can be fixed to an extent it would affect his game in a significant manner. You don't play him higher than #4 if you can avoid it...

1. It's probably too many trades. (Delete the Engvall one)

2. I don't think I gave enough for Kempe

3. Is that too much for Marner? I remember Jordan Staal returning 8th overall in a "good draft" (not amazing) along with Sutter, Dumoulin so maybe if anything drop the 2nd rounder from them? Marner has produced way more than Staal ever did.

Saad 5M x 4 years
Granlund 3.75M x3 years
Haula 2M x 2 years
Foligno 2.5M x 2 years
Perry 1 yr
McCabe 1-2 years at 2.75M
Hamilton 8M x 7 years
Bogosian 1 yr
Pysyk 1 yr
Bernier 1 yr

The more I start to look at expansion, the more I see this potentially being the case. I have a hard time getting a read on how management views Dermott in particular

Depending on how busy Dubas' is on the trade market Engvall could very well be the man playing in the North West come next season.

I think they view him quite highly, but they also view Sandin quite highly. I have to imagine the playoffs dampen Sandin's chances quite a bit, but if they are not willing to use Dermott on special teams, then they probably trade him for lofty value. They did not want to trade him for Weegar after all.

It is possible they want to keep Dermott, but it would take quite a bit of maneuvering to play him in a spot that maximizes his value. He is much better than the usage they were giving him on the bottom pairing this past year, and if he is given a chance to play higher in the lineup, he likely will explode.

Use Muzzin and Holl to insulate the young guys, and have Sandin, Dermott, and Liljegren rotate in and out. 2 games in, 1 game rest.

OV doing just fine with Carlson. Rielly can't even set up our Rocket Richard winner let alone OV.

Yes - too much coming back IMO on the Marner trade as Smith isn't going anywhere for NJ, and then the other returning pieces are mediocre. I also wouldn't pay that much for Saad - no more than 3.5M or 4M. I like Haula, McCabe, Perry, but don't like Hamilton, Foligno. Pysyk, Bernier, would be OK, and I think Granlund would be loved here.

Nothing is off the table if teams want Marner.

Saad is going to get 4-5M

You're supposed to be on our side here tone. This is a um great trade for the caps.

In all seriousness leafs give up too much but I don't even care. I want the cap space and tom wilson. The fact that mitch is gone is just cherry.

Nothing stopping you from asking - I'm just sharing my opinion on what I think NJ would go for.

It's very possible they say no, if they do, you cross their name off the list of suitors and move on. I do a lot of mocks anyway via Capfriendly.

I don’t see very many fits for Marner. That’s why I’ve kind of resigned myself the idea that he’s back next year.

I'll assume teams wanted him at a discount, I don't want our own version of Hall for Larsson.

If he's willing to buy in on working on his shot, speed and changing up his position on the PP, he can be a better version of himself. I've run countless scenarios in which we keep the big 4 and I have liked the team still.

I have been saying all along that the 2 players the Leafs will bring into our lineup are Hamilton and E. Kane (retained salary).

Reilly, Kerfoot, Engvall and Dermott will be eliminated from last seasons lineup.

How that gets done will be seen, but those will be the 2 big acquisitions along with 2-3 vet minimum or slightly higher contracts (Bogo, Gally, Perry)

We don’t have the assets to acquire Evander Kane, especially with retention. I’d love to add him, but I don’t see how.

Very easily. Reilly goes as part of a package the other way. SJ needs D. To have them retain you add a young piece that will be part of their future up front.

Reilly, Brooks, 3rd Round Pick to SJ for E. Kane (20% retained)

Not saying the trade is good or bad but Caps do not need Rielly. There are teams though that Rielly can be more attractive to. You want Wilson, you can dangle Marner.

San Jose has Karlsson and Burns. They definitely do not need an offensive defenseman.

If they are moving Kane, it’s a rebuild, and they want futures.

Sharks have Burns and Karlsson making close to $20m and Vlasic. They do not need Rielly who will be a UFA in a year and will demand $6.5+m.

Now that is a bold prediction. Acquiring Hamilton and Kane will require Marner or Nylander and Rielly. Not sure I want any part of E. Kane but he is the type of player we need.

i want a guy who hates to lose more than he likes to win.

Those guys win chips. Every team in the playoffs is filled with players who are puck hounds while our guys are doing flybys. I wonder who the skillest puck hound is that would be available for marner. I'd like to trade mitch for that guy.

Edit: yeah you're right caps don't rielly need mo.

We have no players who hate to lose more than the like to win except maybe for Muzzin (but that seems to have worn off). Therein lies the problem. Hall joins the Bruins and starts playing the Bruins way. Simmonds and Foligno come in pumped and lose their grit with time.

Marner for Brady Tkachuk if Melnyk likes the fact that he gets Marner for $6+m for 4 years.
