No way that much turnover takes place. 11 new faces?

See #1 ;)

Who knows... with the way Keefe rotated people around. Thornton from top line to 4th line... Sandin in then out... dermott in... double shifting Matthews and Marner

I bet it gets pretty hard for the players to any rhythm going. Meanwhile the successful teams are rolling 4 lines.

I'm really not sure it's the players or the coaching/management. It was like last season when Robertson was pulled for a rusty Johnsson in the elimination game.

I think the black eye for Keefe is 2 playoffs in a row they lost while being the favorite. The second in a row a team has lined up in the neutral zone/opposing blueline that he hasn't been able to find a counter.

He also never tried breaking up Marner and putting 88 there. He did break up a good Galchenyuk-Kerfoot-88 line after we went up 3-1 in the series to put an injured Foligno in Kerfoot's place.

Keefe's big strategy going into the Columbus bubble series was having his team dress in the visitor's room to simulate playing road games at Scotiabank. I mean, do what you have to do but maybe after you've nailed down an actual game plan against a defensive/heavy forechecking checking team that your team has no tactical answer to first.

Fact is you never hear him talk about mixing up strategies to counter punch the other team.

Matty T wants out?

one of my marner trades was. For tkachuk and Anderson.

Matty picks his spot with the 9 mill poison pill.
He did choose to London. But probably forces his way to St. Louis

Matthews and Tkachuk are very good friends.

Tkachuk for Marner is just perfect for us.

I don’t know how you get it done.

but just do it

I'm not sure they want Marner.

Perhaps send Nylander back to his hometown? Use his strong play-off to get some value. Does that work 1 for 1 or do we have to add?

Part of the rift in CGY was that Tkachuk wanted more of a "rah-rah" room and for guys to join the fight on a nightly basis.

I'm sure he'd be ecstatic to play in the spotlight here with old friends, until the puck drops and he's 1 man on 5 every shift.

I'd easily start with Rielly +, but Tree probably wants a promising centre.

Nylander and Dermott for Tkachuk and Tuulola.
Engvall for Crouse.
Re-sign Foligno.
Bring in UFAs Granlund, Schwartz, and Kuraly

Matthew Thachuk - Auston Mattews - Mitch Marner
Jaden Schwartz - John Tavares - Nick Foligno
Lawson Crouse - Mikael Granlund - Ilya Mikheyev
Nick Robertson - Sean Kuraly - Jason Spezza
Adam Brooks

Morgan Rielly - TJ Brodie
Jake Muzzin - Timothy Liljegren
Rasmus Sandin - Justin Holl
Teemu Kivihalme

Jack Campbell
James Reimer

I like that a lot more than what we have...

I think Sutter has a lot to do with Matty T wanting out. Reduced his ice time a lot. Factor in rift with teammates and I believe it could be true. As much as I hate his contract no way I trade Marner for him.

Instead of Tkachuk, I would target Denis Guriyanov from the Stars

He has size, speed, and a strong scoring touch. All while being 24 years of age. Also had a good playoff showing in Dallas's final run with 17 pts in 27 games including 9 goals.

Cost to obtain him is difficult to assess as the stars don't appear to be retooling and will try and be competitive next year with a healthy Seguin and Bishop.

Pieces I'd try and get him with are Amirov, 2022 1st, Sandin/lilijgren, Wouldn;t give all of those up, but Guriyanov is in the age group and at the level where he is an impact player during the remainder of the guaranteed years of the big 4. He is a left-shooting right-wing, but Nylander can switch to the left side pretty easily.

I wonder if the stars would be interested in

Amirov + 2022 1st + Engvall for Guriyanov + Jason Dickinson

Nylander for Tkachuk would definitely be intriguing...although he's a RFA after next season so things might get dicey.

Tkachuk-Matthews-Marner line...oh Lord.

No matter what the future holds every damn pick this day forward better be top 10 protected. Too much jekyll hyde to gamble 82 games prior

I still think you have to move on from rielly hes one year out from a big payday and has value so if you can get a top 4 plus whatever or a replacement with term cause a team overvalues the other player but i do believe hes in line for a big raise which we cant afford

It will be interesting what gets priority when the frenzy begins

Having a player like Tkachuk could do wonders for the Leafs...but man, the irony of trying to find a lesser player to help your $22 million pair reach the next level.

Are we really talking about trading Nylander for a guy who needs a new contract shortly because 2 guys making 22M combined need help on their line?

Perhaps we should discuss those 2 before we trade the guy making fair money with term who wasn't a no show in the playoffs

maybe...
Nylander for tkachuk
kerfoot for dvorak
those 2 together with marner
= old london knights line!

Calgary has Tkachuk, Andersson, Lindholm, Hanifin, Giordano, and 13th overall...

Problem is that I don't think any of those things really get me excited enough to move Marner. Hanifin and Andersson are solid 2nd pairing guys but nothing spectacular in my eyes. Tkachuk has attitude but who knows how that will go over in our locker room.

:leafs
LW Matthew Tkachuk
RW Elias Lindholm
LD Mark Giordano
2021 1st round pick (13th overall)
2022 3rd round pick (TOR)

:flames
RW Mitch Marner
LD Morgan Rielly
C Alex Kerfoot
G Joseph Woll

13th overall could possibly put us in Wallstedt range. Or at least you are getting another really good young prospect (maybe Cossa if you want to go really bold in net assuming Wallstedt is gone, or Sillinger, Lambos, Lucius, McTavish, Lysell, etc.). Of course picks may need to balance out the rest of the deal.

Tkachuk - Matthews - Nylander
UFA - Tavares - Lindholm
UFA - UFA - UFA
Mikheyev - Semyonov - Spezza

Giordano - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
UFA - Liljegren
UFA

Campbell - UFA

That leaves 13.75 mill to fill those last 7 holes. ~ 2 mill per spot.

As options for enjoying life are stagnant here, I woke up today and decided to fix 4 NHL teams, not just one. A ridiculously stupid idea, I know, but I've time on my hands, so wtf? Feel free to laugh and rip apart this attempt at filling my day. All depending on health issues, and the ability to sign free agents as outlined, of course. A preface, I highly value depth and strength at C. I believe all this to be cap compliant and does not affect the Seattle issues (could be wrong though).

Leafs: Marner
Calgary: Monahan, 2nd

Leafs sign FA: Saad 4.5-5M/4, Granlund 3.5M/3, Bunting 2M/2, Bjugstad 1.5-2M/3, Bogosian 1.25/2
Leafs re-sign: Rielly 6.5M/8, Dermott 1.5M/3
Expose to Seattle: Kerfoot, Holl, and Hutchinson

Calgary: Marner and Zary
Buffalo: Eichel and 2nd

Buffalo: 1st OA, 3rd
LA: 8th OA, Sean Walker, Arther Kaliyev, Thomas Akil

Leafs C: Matthews, Tavares, Monahan, Bjugstad
Calgary C: Eichel, Lindholm, Backlund, Emilio Petterson, Pelletier
Buffalo: C: Cozens, Middlstadt, Zary, Akil
LA: Kopitar, Byfield, Vilardi, Turcotte, Madden

Leafs Roster:

Granlund Matthews Nylander (22M)
Robertson Tavares Saad (17M)
Bunting Monahan Spezza/Engvall (10M w Engvall)
Mikheyev Bjusgstad Spezza/Engvall (4.4M w Spezza)
53.4M

Rielly Brodie (11.5M)
Dermott Bogo (2.75M)
Muzz Liljegren (6.5M) (easing TL into the league with 3rd pair minutes with Muzz to mentor, while reducing Muzz's minutes and end of season injury concerns)
20.75M

Campbell + <3M Goalie (there are a few: Driedger/Mrazek/Brossiot/Bernier/Ullmark/Riemer)
4.65M max

Kessel
1.2M

Total Cap: 80M with 1.5M to spend

Marner is worth significantly more than Monahan + a 2nd.
