Pre-covid/post-covid world

I think Landeskog's contract this off-season will provide a good indication as to what to expect for someone like Tkachuk.

I think Hamilton is the guy to look at to see if there really is a difference. If he gets anything close to Pietrangelo, forget post-Covid discounts.

I think Landeskog gives his team a discount.

I'd project Hamilton to be somewhere like 7.75M-8.5M x7 yrs, lower end will be reflective of either a bad covid off-season or maybe going somewhere he wants to go. I think he could get 8.5M from a real bad team or even Seattle but depends on what he wants to do.

Landeskog may get a slightly less AAV but get term. 7.5M is probably what you can expect for Landeskog

Tkachuk coming in at 8M x 6-8 years would be good.

I think going into "work" every day when your team is doing bad is equivalent to holding a bad job. I'd rather take slightly less and be happy going to the rink/work every day.

every team is in cap hell
Landeskog may very well end up in Seattle, or Detroit (or the Devils) ...just because they are the only teams with clear cap space that can 'overpay'

Of course he is, but the context of the trade was to free up cap space allowing for a strong haul in free agency.

Lets trade the 24 year old forward so we can sign 29-30 year old forwards. Kind of like the Oilers made space for Lucic.

I really hope they are just playing poker and not considering low-ball offers. How can you possibly believe in the core four for next year? Marner's trade feels inevitable, I doubt we are the ones signing his next contract. Does Marner even want to be here? I'm beyond exhausted at this no effort team at a premium price. Is anyone seriously confident that we'll make the playoffs over 82 games? We seem to do well in shortened years when we can mail in a month here and there. If we can't manage the Jackets or the Habs, what other first round match up can we conceivably win?

Dubas, you have to at least consider how the team might look better with a different forward core that is less flashy and more competitive. We're trying to emulate Tampa Bay but we look more like the Dave Nonis era of Leafs.

I'm so tired of the excuses for everything that always goes wrong. I honestly don't care if Marner goes on to win a Hart trophy on another team, Chucky and Spezza's combined minimum salaries looked more dangerous. What other organization hands out market resetting contracts that don't actually reset anything to players without proven track records?

I hate our cap structure, there's a difference.

1 time a 10M player advances past the 1st round in Price, we have 3 of those contracts.

If you think Dubas has the winning formula, I have some magic beans I can sell you.
It’s stunning how many are still drinking the Dubas Kool-Ade, no way this half the cap to four players is ever going to work.

Tampa is proving that it actually does work, you just actually need those players to perform come playoff time. Tampa has $36M in Kucherov/Stamkos/Hedman/Vasi. They're over $40M on 5 guys if you include Point.

If we got Kucherov/Stamkos production out of Matthews and Marner we're laughing to the 3rd round even without JT.

Then do that and still get proper value. We aren't taking crap value to get cap space.

I'm trying to think of other fanbases that genuinely despise their star players and want them out.

In some cases it's not even a reactionary thing. There were 'If the Leafs lose who's fault is it?' threads before the playoffs (speaks volumes that people made up their minds before even seeing the series).

Yeah, it's the dressing room that has the loser culture...

If you're referring to the trade post I made, please examine the average age of those brought onto the team v those who would be leaving. The new group averages out at 25.3 yrs of age vs 30 yrs of age for those leaving.

If not my post, please ignore.

TBL doesn't even need Stamkos. They won without him last year.

I cheer for the team. If the "star" players aren't cutting it, then yeah changes are needed. Especially at their salaries.
You think we're the only fanbase that would react this way!? wow

Problem is we are not going to get Kilorn, Gourde, Cirelli, Palat, Coleman etc. production from 11, 15, 65, 47, 24, 97, and 19. Gourde is tiny but I see him constantly mixing it up. You got to be able to shi1t disturb and push back on the sh1t disturbers in the playoffs. We do neither.

Our goalie can't hold a candle to Vassy and our dmen are not close to Hedman, McDonaugh, Sergechev and Cernak.

The Islanders would have steamrolled us IMO. They had some success against Tampa but the cream rises to the top. Closing out the Isles won't be easy though. Can't say the same about the Leafs.

When the cap was going up, it was logical to keep the core forwards. It was certainly doable and you could easily add to the team each year.

But with a flat cap, this is unsustainable and will just lead to gutting the team. They have already lost Kapanen, Johnsson, Andersen (imagine if he was still good and there was no Campbell), and now Hyman. Rielly might also be on the way out.

The only way this works now is if two of them play like McDavid.

Fringe changes will do nothing to this team. Adding a winger will do nothing. Just watch how Tampa plays and be realistic about the Leafs' chances next season. They will get swept.

They have to restructure the cap and be honest with themselves.

Add to that the best winger and a C that is much better in the playoffs than in the regular season and productive foot soldiers and you can see that they are light years ahead of us. Oops forgot their coach and PP make Keefe and our PP look minor league.

Unlike taking on Gio's 6.75 at 37? Or Tkachuk's chance at walking after 2 years. Value there.

Giordano is still an excellent defenseman. My offer was probably even on the lighter side, but at least we get more than a 2C who can walk after 2 years and a 2nd round pick. Monahan only had 28 points in 50 games last year too...

Tkachuk + Lindholm is significantly more valuable than Monahan and a 2nd.
