Why should he resign? Let them fire him.

And as much as losing sucks, he has done his job. He's built a team that should have won at least one round the past three years. GMs need to put the team in a position to win, and he has done that. Changing things drastically is not going to guarantee success any more than what he is doing right now.
He has built a team that has no heart, an overpaid core and way to many bargain basements contracts. A coach that has no idea what to do.
A team that folds under pressure year after year and fails to even acknowledge that they are incompetent

The Nedeljkovic contract isn't bad in comparison to the one signed by Driedger (which is also fine enough). The former has fewer GP in the regular season but more in the playoffs. Not quite as keen about that Goodrow deal, although adding a Cup winner to what was a non-playoff team is at least an idea with some (expensive) merit to it.

Just lost his #4 and #5 best forwards. About to lose what used to be his #1 starter and #3 RHD. Plans to use the kids if he can't find suitable replacements. This guy has no plan and it shows.

I can see him being retained but when he stood up and tied himself at the hip with Dubas and his vision at the Babcock firing presser, he made his bed. That is why I believe he suffers the same fate as his boy blunder.
What he conveys to the board and what he says in public aren't necessarily the same thing.

Sometimes the grinder contracts workout if the AAV isn’t too crazy. I would have signed that Goodrow contract he’s a great third line player the exact kind the Leafs could have used. Risky for sure , but sometimes they are totally worth it

We can't afford a 3.6m player on the 3rd line when you don't even have LWers for your top 2 lines.

In this case no way the press let's him off the hook for completely backing Dubas' and his vision if they fail again IMO.
Sure his feet will be held to the fire but at the end of the day the board will decide his fate not the press.

Sharks reportedly buying out Martin Jones. Would he be worth a league minimum-ish contract or is he spent? Sorry, I know zero about the Sharks and said goaltender.

Agreed but the board will hear the noise. Especially from fans in the stands if they stumble. Two years of the noise will affect their decision. I've been following this team long enough to make that claim.

Stauffer mentioning Bertuzzi on radio in Edmonton. Unsubstantiated comment but seemed to be in the context of Hyman/available wingers.

Definitely some continued smoke around Bert league wide. The Leafs better be a front runner.

This is not really fair. Hyman is about to leave because he wants long term and big dollars to go with it. He's not irreplaceable and giving him that contract would have been nothing short of irresponsible. The Leafs brought in Mccann for the sole purpose of not overpaying in a side deal with the Kraken. When it's all said and done they basically lost Hallander and a 7th to not lose a roster player to Seattle. Andersen USED to be the starter until he decided to stink the joint out the last 2 seasons. If that's the Andersen you're going to get going forward it's addition by subtraction. They also might re-sign Bogo, but if not have someone with a higher ceiling who is overcooked in Liljegren.

Yeah he’s not a great fit cause he’s a left shot and we have Mikhayev.

But also to your point it might be Kerfoot and Robertson on the top two lines

I think Kerfoot (or they trade him and replace with a different guy similar $) and Robertson on the top lines make a lot of sense personally. AM + MM get paid exhorbonent amounts - they need to carry their line with a cheap player that has some talent. Could put Galchenyuk in that spot if you want if Robertson shows at camp hes not ready at all.

Robertson - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - XXX - XXX
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Assume 3M to the 1B goalie and you have about 6 million to fill out this third line with players that are better than Engvall and make Mikheyev the worst player on the third line (I think Mikheyev is fine on the third line so long as hes the worst player of the 3).

Seravelli mentioned that Foligno could come back. I wouldn't hate Foligno at 2M + Granlund at 4M for 1 year. Gives them two guys that can play C, move around the lineup (Kefoot has shown he can move around as well).

Its not perfect at all, but I think the way this team gets better is by putting the core 4 on their own islands, carrying some skill - and allocating the rest of the money (after setting up the 1B goalie) to L3.

The other thing is... they can accrue cap space and get a rental at the deadline to help the top six if Robertson shows he can't handle it during the year. Just don't trade for Foligno next year, get the Hall type guy.

yeah with Foligno I feel like he should come back he owes us. The only thing is if he does he should take Kerfoots place in the mock lineup which is very close to mine. Because Foligno shouldn’t be playing centre. I don’t know how I feel about Kerfoot as third line centre. Don’t think I like it. So maybe if Foligno signs, trade Kerfoot.

I like Granlund too but I would really like a third line right winger who actually shoots right. Granlund as third line centre would be nice.

Yeah i think there is some flexibility here for sure - if Foligno doesn't come back i think Kerfoot might stay in the top 6. If he does - can definitely see a trade - OR they find a way to fix the makeup of the 3rd line with him on it.

I actually don't mind Kerfoot so much as 3C, but him with Mikheyev and Engvall or Mikheyev/Simmonds etc doesn't work because Kerfoot's a pass first guy with no shooter to work with there.

Personally I think Granlund is a good fit. I think people would want to put him or whoever the equivalent they get of him with AM/MM but I just think you're better off spreading out the depth and making AM/MM carry a Robertson or J.Anderson (to be a Hyman-lite) on their line.

The other nuclear option:

Keep Galchenyuk - Kerfoot - Nylander as a 3rd line - give Tavares the new wingers (Mikheyev + someone who can generate offense that they sign) and try to spread out the depth that way. I think the concern there is Nylander probably loses a lot of icetime that you don't want him to lose in the lineup.

They have options though - the coaching staff honestly just needs to be more flexible with how they create the lines.

Brendan Lemieux apparently being shopped. I hope we at least make a phone call. Can't see him being crazy hard to acquire. But he would bring a heck of an element to our bottom 6. Tough and annoying as all heck
And cant play hockey at an NHL level.

Rank these goalies in your order of acquiring:

Halak
Georgiev
Kuemper
Gibson
Mrazek
Jones

Bonus points if you show your work.
