To get a 5th or 6th round pick to sign and trade Hyman is all fine and dandy...but I wonder if Dubas could convince Holland to instead free up some cap space, and send us a guy like Kassian, Khaira, or Archibald. Have to think Holland wouldn't mind creating cap space after the Duncan Keith deal, and possibly overpaying Hyman if that comes to life.

I read the first and last 10 pages and used the "find" function with Hallanders name. If 20/46 randomly selected pages didnt show anything it likely means you were imaging it. The thread is there for you to find some specific examples if youd like.

I can’t remember anyone talking about hallander. Like at all

SDA and the Finnish D. Heck even abramoc get more play

He's making it up which isn't surprising. Me and a few others are pretty in tune with prospects here, and none of us were so high on Hallander. He's a fine prospect but more in the B/C range. We loved his analytics but if you can't produce, it doesn't matter. You can make a case he isn't even top 10 in our system. The main evidence is that his production has stagnated 3 years straight. You start to wonder if the managemenr group lost faith in him.

If he looked so good in his auditions in the top 4, why did they protect Holl and leave Dermott exposed?

So explain what happens if 20 games it it is obvious Dermott can't handle it and Holl is gone? Flat cap, and no one trading without huge overpays?

Hakstol and Dermott butted heads, so they couldve felt that he didnt need to be protected.

And again, the bar is on the f***ing ground. You know how bad Dermott would have to do to be worse than Holl?

Worst case they would just go find a top 4 guy at the deadline anyways.

He pretty much admitted to making it up and proving himself wrong on his own point.
When someone uses nicknames and just takes shots at the opposing crowd, we shouldn't be surprised.

Holl needs to be upgraded, IMO. I agree it's not a guarantee that Dermott can handle it(I think he eventually will) but that doesn't make it any less of a need.

Is this solely just opinion or eye test? Because by any metric you choose to use, the Holl Muzzin pairing was a key reason why the Leafs finished 7th in GA with some of the worst goaltending in the league.

The pairing isnt bad, no one is debating that though. Show me any metric that suggests Holl is a top 4 dman.

But you have him as a failsafe now in case UFA season doesn't pan out. You don't have to overpay to fill a hole of your own creation.

Yep, I was suggesting they do that today. Any time before the season starts is fine.

They play together as a pairing, and if they get someone better than Holl, they can slide him down to 3rd pairing, or trade him.

Just not wise to create a hole you have to fill in UFA or trade when there are far more middle 6 players in UFA.

I get the logic, for sure. I just think you can plug a lot of number 5's in Holls spot and do just fine and have kept the extra middle six guy.

It is what it is.

Khaira can be had for a bag of pucks I think, very inconsistent with one good season and pieces of good in the others. Kassian would be getable because his game dropped almost as soon as he signed his last deal. He isn't lazy but he needs a coach to babysit him I think and $3.2M per means he has to be giving value. People in Edmonton keep hoping he will bring that physical game on a regular basis without too many bonehead moves but still waiting. Any Oilers you really want probably aren't going to be available.
 
Oleksiak gets 4 x $4.6 ... I didn't think he was that good to get term and top 4 money .. Thought he was more of a good bottom pairing d-man.
