5 x 4.6M is on the high end for him... it's not completely out of line, maybe about 500k-600k too high, but still pretty high for a mid tier defenseman.

Larsson got 4x4 too...

It would likely start with a 3 to even get a guy like Ceci.

So explain what happens if 20 games it it is obvious Dermott can't handle it and Holl is gone? Flat cap, and no one trading without huge overpays?

That's why they brought in McCann. So they wouldn't take Dermott? :dunno:

And on the second note, Holl played the first ~20 games and dropped off significantly and we still ended up tops in the division.

Maybe a touch surprised on the term for Oleksiak. Definitely surprised with the AAV.

Maybe but I just didn't like him much on the Leafs. Seemed scared to have the puck. Honestly didn't see much of him on the Pens though.

He was brought in to protect Holl, and to mitigate the loss of a forward. Not bad for the price of he Leafs 4th best LW prospect forward.

Holl second half was worse than his first, no doubt. But even with injuries, some poor play, and some bad goaltending, the Leafs finished 7th overall in GA.

How did he protect Holl though? They would've protected 4 4 1 whether they got McCann or not. That's why I'm thinking they brought him in to either protect Dermott or to replace or protect Kerfoot.

Yeah I am not saying it would have been from us... I don't think any of these deals would come from us after we only paid a much better defenseman in Brodie a 5 mill contract over 4 years.

But if a team like EDM is desperate enough... I can definitely see it.

It is because he mitigated the loss of a forward in the 4-4-1 by getting McCann. If they take Dermott, then Sandin was there to take his spot.

Without that deal to mitigate the loss of a forward, the Leafs have more to do in UFA - where they are fighting against not only the higher taxes, but the cross-border travel restrictions that affect players families.

Still don't see how it has anything to do with Holl though. They were never not protecting 4 D.
