Idk if Kerfoot is going to get traded or not but if he does....two teams to look at would be Minnesota and Columbus. Both teams in need for a Center.

What are some trade possibilities? Would Kerfoot for Ryan Hartman work?

Ducks would want either LIljegren or Sandin for Max Jones.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Max Jones is one of their better young players no?

He's alright...pretty limited ceiling there.

They just re-signed Hartman and he took less to stay, unlikely IMO

Now is the time to look for trades....Kerfoot was just exposed, so they aren't wedded to him. Plus rumours of Mikheyev and Engvall being available....Kerfoot only has $750k salary this year, and is only owed $3.45 million over the next 2 seasons in real dollars. That will be a very big incentive to cash poor teams in this climate.

I think the bulk of the new players will come from trades, and that UFA will only be players who sign at the last minute with Canadian teams when they run out of US options. Just my feeling that they won't want their families to deal with potential border issues in the fall.

Yeah we need to overhaul our bottom 6.

Who hasn't show a consistent ability to play up the lineup yet. Muzzin missing significant time has given Dermott a lot of opportunity, and had he shown better, the Leafs may have made different decisions.

You've just proved a lot of people's point. Dermott has moved up to cover Muzzin's spot when he was injured. Dermott has yet to play significant minutes with Muzzin, and I'm pretty sure he can be on par, if not better then what Holl brings to that pairing

I think that will only hold true for American players, and/or others that already have strong roots (SO's) in the states.

1. Alexander Kerfoot for Ryan Hartman + Small add
2. Travis Dermott + Small add for Max Jones
3. Liljegren + Engvall for Tyler Bertuzzi ?

GO ahead and make fun of me. How badly am I off

1. Don't think they'd do that after he just skipped UFA to re-sign
2. Ballpark
3. Feel like we'd get outbid...likely would want Dermott according to rumors, not sure what goes on top of Dermott though.

Would minny do Kerfoot for Greenway

Which would most likely be the case for anyone who has been with US team(s) long enough to become a UFA.

I bet Kefoot plays LW with JT and Nylander and the leafs find a cheap vet 3C.

Really liked Nylander/Kerfoot in the playoffs. Had some good chemistry and speed

No, that doesn't prove anything.

If they let Holl get claimed, Dermott is promoted, and if he can't handle his off side any better than he handled his strong side in a top-4 role, or the pairing just plain doesn't work....then what are the Leafs in season option(s) to fix this with a flat cap?

You know what you are getting with Muzzin and Holl. One of the better matchup tandems in the league by any metrics you choose to use. All for $8.6 million.

You don't give away sure things for maybe's, and leave yourself with no fallback option just because you as a fan don't like a particular player. Forest and trees. Quality D are more costly to acquire than complementary F.

In a limited sample size, Muzzin-Dermott pairing outscored the opposition 7-0 last season.
Dermott is the perfect archetype of D that you would want beside Muzzin as his foot-speed starts to decline. If he was RH, we wouldn't be talking about lack of opportunity.

Yzerman likes Dermott for a reason. He'll get ample opportunity on that weak left side and Leaf fans will be looking for that exact piece again in a couple of years.

Kerfoot is staying it seems. It's a chunk of salary that isn't the most desirable, but we know he plays well in the he playoffs. Can play 2C no problem if need be (seemingly do to chemistry with Nylander), can play PP2, PK, and is a great skater. Woulda liked to see McCann stay, but I don't dislike Kerfoot.
Id be alright seeing us go after worker bees from the Hurricanes. Plus bring back Galchenyuk on the cheap.
Sign: McGinn, Martinook
Trade: Mikheyev for Foegle

Foegle-Matthews-Marner
McGinn-Tavares-Nylander
Galchenyuk-Kerfoot-Simmonds
Martinook-Brooks-Spezza
(Engvall and Brooks can fight for 4C)

Spend the rest of your $$$ on one good D upgrade and a solid goalie

Look at the caliber of defensemen available to Seattle and who they have signed/leaked to have been selected…

Does anyone really think they would have took Holl even if he was exposed to them? Who does he really overtake on their projected top 6? Leafs must have known Hakstol had a huge crush on him or something not to go 7-3-1 and keep the versatile asset we just picked up that filled one of our team’s needs to a tee

I definitely think they would have taken Holl. In terms of pure value, they could get a decent return on a trade for a 2 million dollar big dman. Just because they have 6 already doesn't mean they don't want to fill out at least 9 dmen for their rotation.

I agree with this. If there isnt a LW to be had in trade or FA that is better than Kerfoot I would stay the course and put Kerfoot on the wing. He did look good with Nylander. Maybe the investment is made into another C for the third line. There are plenty out there for a reasonable cost.

2M defenseman that can't defend or create offense without Jake Muzzin? You can sign pylons for 750k every year.

According to the Boy Blunder and his staff you can't find 20 minute dmen.

I know why. It's because he found Justin Holl in the ECHL and can point to him coming to the NHL on a 2nd pairing and it makes him look smart but in reality he just looks stupid now. 61 point forward (pro rated) he just stole could have been kept around...and makes less than 3M but he chose to keep Holl who is absolute trash without Muzzin.
