I mean maybe but Korpisalo has zero to negative value so they won't get any value there. Murray won't help them much other than being cheaper and his value isn't really all that good. He's a reclamation project.
I’m sorry and you can call me petty, but seeing those words attributed to the Boston Bruins, and knowing they may be looking at $13m for their goalie tandem just makes me so happy.

Call me petty, but that’s a rare and wonderful stink for the Bruins to have hanging over them…..

Eh, higher draft pedigree and better (limited) numbers. I think Knies would consider 5-6ish mil on 6-7 years. 8 would up it a bit

I'd easily go for an 8 year deal between 6 and 7M as well. Guenther got 8 years 7M for about 80 games and the career high of 35 points. Guenther did it in 45 games vs 80 games for Knies so that's a big factor to take into account. Draft pedigree definitely in favour of Guenther for sure but I think Knies would still get close to that. A risky long-term signing with a lot of potential to be a great deal in due time.

I’d love to move on from Kampf and focus on developing Holmberg in his place, even if you take a short term loss in impact.

You have Dewar/Holmberg/Lorentz* all capable of doing spot duty at 4C. Quillan/Minten also project to fit there in 1-2 years.

It’s not outlandish to think he can handle that assignment after playing nearly 40GP two years in a row, plus 7 playoff games.

I think I would go 5M x 6-8 years on Knies, I don't think he has Guenther's offensive upside but he plays a style of game everyone likes.

I think Kampf is likely to stick this year but I legit think Minten and Quilan could be our 3 and 4C next year.

They should both get lots of reps on the PK with the Marlies so they can assume those duties in the NHL.

I think with our depth and the additions of guys like dewar holmberg grebinkin Cowan and mitten then Kampf and jarnkrok are redundant and that 4.5 million could be used to push us over the top once and for all .
I think this is our year if we use the cap and trades properly

I would add Lorentz to that list of players that make Kampf and Jarnkrok expendable. When is the right timing though? Now for draft picks so we can accrue space? Or later in the season when teams might pay more for quality veterans?

Trade them now
Accrue cap space now so we can add a very significant piece at trade deadline

It's a good thought. I agree, but my only hesitation is in wondering if Holmberg has a higher than Kampf ceiling. Could he a low cost top six for us? If he has chemistry with Willy at C. I would like to see Holmberg, Nylander and Marner as our second line.

And a lot of people here forecasted that early summer.

Would have liked to use the available cap at the time + OEL's money + savings from shipping out Kampf to slightly overpay a Roy type on top of Tanev. I think that was a big miss. There was rumoured interest, and even if Roy preferred the states, I think that's a player you can stomach overpaying.

I still see utility in Jarnkrok and his cap is quite low for a guy that can play up. Very vanilla player but we still need veteran PKers - something we've lacked dating back to last year - so i'd keep 1/2.

The forward group is packed right now. It's going to make it extremely hard for a Grebenkin type to break in even if he earns it. Even back to the original point of Holmberg - he's probably in the press box at the moment, which is a waste of home grown talent.

Hearing people talking about signign Knies to 7 mil 8 year extension is ridiculous. I love Knies but he has not done enough to warrant that contract. If he breaks out this year maybe he earns that but theres no way he breaks out to a level that earns 8 million bucks. If were signing him now to an 8 year deal it better be no more than 5.5. Otherwise just wait on it and sign a shorter term.

Jarvis just get 7.4 after a 33 goal 67 point season. If Knies does that this year sure pay him that 7 million. Sure Slafkovsky got 7 after a 50 point season but there is way more of a reason to believe hes going to possibly explode for more and be worth 8-10 at some point soon than Knies given his potential and the role he will have on the team.

I agree. Most importantly, I think being able to keep 8 D on the 23 man roster would be huge to not lose Timmins for nothing. Injuries are inevitable.

Rielly - Tanev
McCabe - Liljegren
OEL - Hakanpaa
Benoit - Timmins

Is very respectable depth and variety for the season. Benoit/Timmins plug in whenever needed, Benoit more often.

Those guys don’t fill the same roles as Kampf and Jarnkrok… unless you think Cowan should be leading an NHL PK unit…

Would you lock up Knies for 8 years x $6.5M if the option was on the table right now?
No, not for a 15 goal scorer.
I'd probably do something like 5M x 6-8 years, it is in that Farabee range but a small bump up.
I would too for Knies… as it feels like he can be a 20/20 guy this year.
Okay how in the shit does Guenther get 8x7 while Mercer gets 3x4?
Guenther was on pace for over 30 goals last year, so they project him as a 40 goal guy likely. If they are right it’s solid value. But it’s risky as that isn’t much of a sample size. Mercer went backwards in production and signed a bridge deal.

If I had to guess, I imagine the Leafs will sign Knies to a bridge contract at a much lower number, just as they did with Woll.

Yeah, I think we all want Knies locked up and we want that to get a deal and not be forced to overpay later. A lot of these feel like overpaying now.

How much on a bridge? $4M. Less? Let's take that for a few years and have cap space to keep adding.

Eh, I am kind of tired of paying players based on "What ifs" and "potential". Knies played largely with Matthews and put up only 35 points. Guenther was on the second line and has had multiple seasons.

If they want to lock him up for eight years the price has to come way down, he’s a good player with big upside, but it’s got to be a fair number, the idea of 7-8 mil is just insanity, long term looking a 5-5.5 mil imo……….

I’d actually be interested to see a breakdown of his most common linemates. I only remember him playing probably like half the games with Matthews but I could be misremembering.

I think it’s also before the allstar break he was losing steam and needed the time off. First NHL length season so not unexpected

That's how you get bargain long-term deals like a lot of players across the league have. If you only pay short-term or wait until they explode, you're always going to pay top dollar. Knies plays with Matthews or in a top role because he's pretty good and keeps getting good.

I don’t want the older guys like patches kampf anf jarnkrok
Taking minutes from the young guys.

The only way we really get to know what we have is let them play and gain experience.
