I want Garland + Kuemper@50 but yote fans want a lot for Garland and I don't know if we can afford giving up 2 of the big 4 prospects for a single asset

The Holl for McCann deal od do for sure. Let dermott be claimed in expansion draft and give lilijgren the shot he deserves to prove he's an actual promising NHL player and than have sandin bottom pairing and bring in a physical bottom pairing RHD for the bottom pair

None of those top American free agents are coming to Canada.

Seravelli on his podcast made the point that historically top american Fa's dont sign in Canada, now with covid, it'll probably make it even harder.

whether or not they will. Who knows.

Toronto has always been an exception to that. Multiple UFAs from the states have signed here and we have never had a Player we wanted to keep walk in UFA as an American. Kessel re signed. Komisarek. Liles. JVR begged to stay. Even hainsey.

lots of Americans choose to play here. Covid might change that. But then again. Landeskogs wife is from TO. As far as we know. She wants to be able to be near her family she hasn’t seen in a year.

who knows ?

Toronto has not had any issues attracting or retaining us born players

Can we fit in Landeskog without moving out Nylander or Rielly?

He'll want 7M at minimum I'm assuming as a UFA. Don't think we should target landsekog unless it's basically shifting the core in a move where we send out Rielly + Nylander + Holl for Hamilton @7ish and Landeskog @7ish and having a new core in place

Let lily seriously compete for the job. Handing it to him and moving holl and dermott could be Sparks all over again.

Obviously his discount is not good enough but at the right price I would resign him is what my point is. He is a good player.

Sure but at the end of the day he has a significant market and there's no way in hell he's signing for something palatable for me

i mean technically yes. It would all depend on how much we spend on goalies. I tried a few mocks with him at 6.5. It’s doable with a goalie around 2.5-3.

True landeskog is a 5th 1st line level talent. I'm assuming after we had Robertson + gally + Anderson getting the 3 out of 4 remaining spots in the top 9 with Kerfoot/Mikheyev getting the final spot

We'd have elite offense which if able to show up in the playoffs would be a very dangerous team. Will come down to the stars again and if they can produce at the same time in the playoffs

Good trade for both teams

Isles get out of Leddy's contract with no retention while facing a cap constraint and get a 2nd + 1 year cap player at 50%

They still have their big 3 d-men and can give Dobson a role in the top 4 that he deserves and should be ready for

Detroit get a good 3/4 defender who is a LHD and can provide puck moving for them. They can sell him at the deadline for the 2nd back if he won't re-sign with them

Not sure why Detroit makes that deal.

Doubt you’ll get more at the deadline. Leddy declining steadily. Will look even worse outside of the Trotz system.

basically a line up of.

landy. Matty. Marner.
Robertson JT. Willy.
Xxxxxx. Xxxxx. Soup
Brooks. Spezza. Simmonds

rielly. Brodie.
Muzz Holl
Derm. Sandin

Campbell.

gives you 6.3 million for the final. 2 3rd liners and back up.

It’s doable. Like maybe they want to sign a goalie for 2 million. Or take Allen from seattle or. Try to run a 3rd line with like a rielly nash for 1.25 as a grinder.

It’s super tight and probably not the smartest. But doable.

That's also with only 20 guys on a 23 man roster. You literally wouldn't be able to sit anyone ever unless they were on the LTIR.

Leafs do it though. You can use emergency call
Ups. To play if you are below 20 man roster. It doesn’t count against the cap if you have minimum players.

that’s why they sign a bunch of agastino to 1 way deals. So they can live in TO and be emergency call ups.

they could save 750 k by trying to have Lilly in there. Or Hutton.

they could use the 6.3 on

rielly nash. 1.5
Gally. 1
Goalie for 2 and save 1.5

I’m not saying it’s the best plan. If they could get landy I would look at moving willy. But it is possible.

Zach Hyman. Frederik Andersen. The Maple Leafs have quick decisions to make, but fans hoping for a major shakeup will be disappointed | The Star

Sure, there’s a lot to do: First up is Wednesday’s expansion draft to stock the Seattle Kraken, followed by the NHL entry draft of junior players on July 23 and 24, then free agency starting July 28.

But how much is going to get done? How much change will there be?

There are a lot of moving, interconnected parts, but all signs point to a very similar Leafs team in the end.

Hyman, a versatile forward, and Andersen, for years their No. 1 netminder, are their key unrestricted free agents. Hyman’s agent, Todd Reynolds, was given permission at the beginning of the week to field offers from other teams. Andersen’s agent, Claude Lemieux, was not.

That’s telling on a few fronts.

In Hyman’s case, it confirms whispers from behind the scenes that the sides are far apart on a contract. Hyman is willing to give the team that “hometown” discount you might have heard about, believed to be $5 million (U.S.) per year on a long-term term deal. But for the Leafs, who don’t have a lot of room under the NHL salary cap, that appears to be too high.

By letting Hyman’s camp seek other deals, the Leafs’ hopes are twofold:

Hyman sees the true measure of his value, perhaps making a deal with the Leafs easier to pursue.

The 29-year-old forward gets an offer that the Leafs don’t want to match, so they trade his rights and get something back in return, likely a draft pick.

By denying Andersen the same right, perhaps they’re hinting that they expect to reach a deal to keep the experienced Andersen in the tandem with Jack Campbell.

The Leafs have been linked to other goalies — Darcy Kuemper of the Arizona Coyotes, and perhaps Jaroslav Halak of the Boston Bruins — but all things considered, they remain comfortable with Andersen’s presence in a room where he’s viewed as part of the leadership core, not to mention prominent on star centre Auston Matthews’ Instagram feed.

No deals are expected before Wednesday’s expansion draft. Rosters will be frozen Saturday, with teams submitting their protected lists for the Kraken to consider.

Those lists will be made public Sunday, with the second-guessing and angst of fans scheduled to begin moments after.

Let's not forget about trading Toews because of the contracts and now Leddy.
you called it early... another bad cap management Lou Lam trade
a good d-man for a waiver caliber player just to make space, and now he'll likely screwup another contract

Lou's team continues to win and go deep into the playoffs. When people such as yourself are calling this a bad deal for the isles you know Lou did a good job. Can't seem to put aside your bias towards dubas to be neutral and see a good move from a former GM of the team

Leddy is a 3/4D whose slow and declining. Getting a 2nd + a 20ish pou t bottom 6 forward at 50% is good value especially with the expansion draft looming

Puzzling decision by Detroit there
Det is void of players and got a good for nothing really. Leddy will help Det a lot.
Leddy will likely be their #1 dman ...though, that isnt really a good thing, but, better than they had.

i dont care at all about Dubas, but, Lou Lam sucks at player contracts

Which is true. But Detroit is still likely going to tank another season. It's not so much adding Leddy as giving up a pick for him that puzzles me
