Also. For people looking at the expansion draft. Interesting wrinkle.

if they take kerfoot. They have to pay the leafs back the SB.

If the leafs want to make a deal. They can agree to allow them to take another prospect and trade kerfoot for someone else on the roster

Ie. seattle takes say kuemper.

take engvall. And then leafs trade kerfoot for kuemper. That way they only play 750’k

I doubt the 1.95 million bonus makes much difference to an owner that paid $650 million. They'll only be on the hook for 2.7 million total if they pay back his bonus, which is still below his 3.5 million cap hit.

Zone starts are huge.

If your corsi is higher than your offensive zone starts, you made a positive impact.

About 1/2 of a players shifts star on the fly.

For shifts that do start with face-offs, about 1/3 start in the neutral zone.

So do the math there and tell me how much do defensive zone starts matter?

He's good defensively, and good on the PK. He scores at a 20 points per season pace with 4th line playing time and no PP time.

The fact that he sticks up for team mates is just a bonus.

Buddy, you just described a poor man's version of Pierre Engvall.

Maple Leafs Rumours: Toronto expecting to lose Kerfoot in expansion draft, likelihood not strong on a Foligno return, Oilers among front-runners for Hyman, goalie market heating up | MLHS

Seravalli on the likelihood of Frederik Andersen returning and the team’s interest in Arizona goaltender Darcy Kuemper:

It is not out of the realm of possibility that [Andersen] comes back, but I would be really surprised. The Maple Leafs have done a lot of work on the goaltending market in recent weeks. Darcy Kuemper has emerged as a primary target for the Leafs on the goaltending front. That is a trade that would need to take place given that Kuemper has a year remaining on his deal at $4.5 million.

There are lots of goalies on the Leafs’ list, and Andersen is just further back on the list. That is not a knock on Freddy, and I don’t think it has anything to do with what they are looking for money-wise. Last year, they were considering a potential change in net with Andersen, and a year later, with the down year and the injury issues and Campbell taking the reins and running with it…

Among the guys on the Leafs’ list — Linus Ullmark, Petr Mrazek, Marc-Andre Fleury, Chris Driedger, Jaroslav Halak, Joonas Korpisalo — Kuemper would make a lot of sense to play in tandem with Jack Campbell next season if they can pull a trade like that off.

There are other teams in the mix. The Avalanche also have Kuemper as a primary target. Moving forward, it is a team they are going to have to compete with. The Kraken are also rumoured to have interest.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see something happen from the Coyotes’ front potentially before the expansion draft. If they are able to move Kuemper, it would allow them to keep Adin Hill going forward. They also have Antti Raanta as a pending UFA.

Seravalli on the buzz around Tyler Bertuzzi and the Leafs:

The back surgery is so significant. I don’t know that I love the comments that I heard, and I can tell you teams are concerned about Bertuzzi’s back injury and what it means given his style of play. He is that Zach Hyman-type player stylistically.

There is definite concern there with the fact that he hasn’t ramped up. He is still continuing rehab from surgery that was a bit ago. According to Jeff Blashill, he hasn’t gotten back to strength training yet. It raised an eyebrow with me. It is hard to say what that looks like moving forward.

He is an RFA who is arbitration-eligible. He had a really strong season before this last one. Is it a recurring issue? Is it one that is solved? A back can be quite wonky. I don’t know if you can definitively answer that.

Trotz is the reason the Isles have been successful not Lou. Lou was probably the biggest reason Marner screwed the Leafs on his deal. Lou refused to give him performance bonuses on his first contract. Said its a team game. Marner lost millions while Lou gave them to Mathews the next year. Marner camp was eager to make it up.

God I wish Marner signed a bridge deal. Wonder what he would sign for now?

Marner can ask for whatever they want. It’s up to Dubas to sign a reasonable contract.

Honestly, I don't give a ****

Marner is vastly overpaid and a complete no-show when the pressure gets ratcheted up

Dubas couldn't negotiate a decent RFA contract if you paid him and Marner is a greedy entitled prat, they deserve each other and I hope they both get shown the door if or when this team fails again

As it inevitably will

Marner is a top 5 scorer in the NHL he is not overpaid. If his playoff struggles mean hes overpaid I guess the same can be said about Matthews and Mcdavid.

Steve Thomas and Gary Roberts aged well.
Wouldn’t call Thomas a power forward, although he played with a edge. As for Gary Roberts, well you do know he retired early because of degenerative disc problem in his neck? Only because he opted for a new radical operational procedure to correct his problem could he continue with his career so thanks for making my point, much appreciated.

I see your point.

I don't think that any and all power forwards should be abandoned though.

Yup I think Dubas should be criticized but Lou is equally to blame.

You are correct. But Lou did hire Trotz.

Thats why you go with veteran coaches for a young upcoming team, not a rookie coach

Remember Dallas Eakins with the Oilers ? He was a sought out after coach from AHL

It was a disaster for the young Oilers
