i dont care at all about Dubas, but, Lou Lam sucks at player contracts
Nah he doesn't that's Dubas speciality

This wasn't a player contract it was a trade and a very good one for the isles as was the Toews deal where he got 2 2nds for their 5D. He just send put his 4D for a 2nd+bottom 6 forward

The Islanders are well set to contend heavily again next year with Lou as their GM

He's good defensively, and good on the PK. He scores at a 20 points per season pace with 4th line playing time and no PP time.

The fact that he sticks up for team mates is just a bonus.
His possession stats are atrocious

Which is true. But Detroit is still likely going to tank another season. It's not so much adding Leddy as giving up a pick for him that puzzles me
they need a lot of help still ...they only have 3 dmen under contact and Dekeyser's a question mark, and if you were a UFA dman, i doubt Det would be high on your list, now all they need is about 10 forwards, so, more cap dump trades are possible there i guess. Maybe Lou tries to get them to bite on Lee for a 3rd.
pick was the Oilers anyways.

they contend because of Trotz and only Trotz, that move i'll give Lou credit for, but, all his signings are typically one good and 2 bad
Dubas may have overpaid, but at least he overpaid 'stars' not middle and bottom 6 players.
I liked Zaitsev his first season, but Lou gave him double what he was worth, and he does that often with mediocre players.
if Lou overpays Barzal, eventually he may earn his contract, but, overpaying a Pageau is a joke ...as bad as whatever team signs Hyman for 5+ will be.

So what happens if they can't make a trade for someone else or Coburn and Greene refuse to sign? Do they have to leave Pelech, Pulock or Mayfield exposed? Or is there a fine? Lose a draft pick to Seattle?

Trotz and only Trotz? Talk about homerism.

Not sure on the exact rules to be honest. Someone else know on that one?

I would think they know a guy is signing or they have another trade lined up before doing that first trade.

I'd think yes they'd be penalized somehow otherwise.

I would assume they’d have to expose one of those 3 and lose their protection slot. Maybe some sort of fine/penalty from the league as well

As a hater, I like this trade in the sense that it makes the Islanders legitimately worse right away and takes away a little from Detroit's future and draft capital for no real purpose.

How so though? They got Vandel Sompel who should probably get a shot in the NHL anyways and this should give him that chance.

Maybe so, but generally you'd probably want him to earn the job and move on from Leddy via internal competition.

Not sure why Detroit makes that deal.

Doubt you’ll get more at the deadline. Leddy declining steadily. Will look even worse outside of the Trotz system.
I figure they want a veteran partner for their big RH German D and will likely recover the pick at the TDL.

That's true, but if you can get a 2nd round pick and a decent depth player for a d man who is probably gonna start falling down their depth chart with Dobson proving he can play at the highest level and having a pretty damn good prospect in Vandel Sompel ready to make the jump then you gotta sell high on the guy before his value decreases.

Yeah, it's solid asset management, but I think the more they tinker the more they'll find themselves moving away from the group that made those deep runs the past couple of years. Change is inevitable, I suppose.

Also. For people looking at the expansion draft. Interesting wrinkle.

if they take kerfoot. They have to pay the leafs back the SB.

If the leafs want to make a deal. They can agree to allow them to take another prospect and trade kerfoot for someone else on the roster

Ie. seattle takes say kuemper.

take engvall. And then leafs trade kerfoot for kuemper. That way they only play 750’k

Could be a reasonable option for us. Engvall + Kerfoot for Kuemper + not losing Dermott/Holl to expansion is solid value.

sure. We could also look at depending on protection

-Samsonov
-vanacek
-hill
-kuemper
-Allen

for trade.

:thumbu:

Ummm what... lol... we'll take a 3rd thanks

Actually I'd prefer an NHL player that they aren't going to protect instead.

Calgary - Dominik Simon
Edmonton - Tyler Benson
Detroit - Namestnikov or Stecher
Pittsburgh - Mccann, ZAR, Pettersson

Send a prospect/pick back if it's ZAR or Mccann.
