Garland and Hamilton would be such KEY pickups. Make it work Dubas. Make it work.

I have no idea how they can make it work, but I wonder if the Leafs can manage to pick up both Garland and Kuemper from the Coyotes in some weird 3 way trade with them and Seattle. Both linked to the Leafs over the past couple months.

I just don't see the Hamilton happening though.

Honestly, it doesnt look bad when you put it that way. Almost 10 million to fill 3 spots? With movable cap like Kerfoot/Dermott/Engvall? I think we will make a big-ish move this offseason that will surprise even us. Theres no way we just add depth pieces.

I think you can simplify this by inserting Robertson in the lineup. He's very likely going to be on the team. I'd expect Joey Anderson to be on the roster, at the very least in some depth capacity.

So the Leafs really need a very good LW addition through free agency or trade, and probably a 3rd line center when Kerfoot goes to Seattle. Those 2 things are not very easy to fill out and those players aren't typically cheap.

Ontop of Robertson almost being a Top 9 lock, I think there is a lot of internal hope that Filip Hallander takes the next step and gives them a cheap option to push Brooks down the depth chart.

I wouldn’t be shocked one bit to see him in next years bottom 6 considering this teams cap crunch.

Without knowing the quality and readiness of guys like Robertson, Hallander, Anderson, Liljegren and Sandin to actually take full time jobs, turning over those roles to a fairly significant youth movement might be the best way to actually dig out of this mess. More Simmonds, more Thornton type veterans just doesn't feel like the answer.

I don't think either are going to be on the team. You can't pencil in rookies in especially for a 82 game schedule. They more often than not aren't able to sustain their game for long stretches. They need to keep developing in the minors.

Given the cap constraints there is no good scenario, but youth movement up front, bargain bin vets on the back end is the best way to go if any are cheap enough to fit? Or, get a new GM and trade 2 of the 4 taking up half the cap and properly fix this mess.

Stars extend Miro Heiskanen to an 8 year deal worth 8.45M AAV.

Must be nice to have a star RFA not demand to be paid the highest of their position.

ummmm he is the 6th highest paid D in the league. As an RFA. Post pandemic.

he has a career high of 35 ish points.

I like the player but to pretend that this is some crazy discount I mean……..

You have to think Makar and Fox will now be pushing $9.5 million plus on their new deals. Good luck Avalanche and Rangers. And who knows where McAvoy ends up on his AAV after next year.

I thought Hallander was playing a lot of wing, if he's pushing Brooks down I'm presuming he's going to be playing center instead?

who knows if there will actually be a lot of movement but with a flat cap... makes sense.

Expansion tends to promote that sort of activity. Add in the fact that there's likely some teams still having strong internal budgets in terms of real $$$, and it creates a scenario for plenty of movement.

However, I thought there would be more trade activity leading up to the expansion roster freeze, and we've only gotten Ryan Graves & Nick Leddy trades to bottom feeders lol.

So I dunno, we'll see how many trades Seattle has lined up, soon enough.

There are still 4 hours until teams need to finalize their rosters, so there could still be some movement.

Doesn't think increase Rielly's value ?? If Rielly would have taken 6.5m, it should have been signed yesterday.

Has been better in the playoffs though. Seems worth the risk that he'll play up to - if not beyond - this deal in fairly short order.
