Expansion tends to promote that sort of activity. Add in the fact that there's likely some teams still having strong internal budgets in terms of real $$$, and it creates a scenario for plenty of movement.

However, I thought there would be more trade activity leading up to the expansion roster freeze, and we've only gotten Ryan Graves & Nick Leddy trades to bottom feeders lol.

So I dunno, we'll see how many trades Seattle has lined up, soon enough.

Yeah forsure. I expected a bit more movement too. Like I said below in my other response... I think come next Thursday it'll really get going.

I'd still be shocked if Dubas actually traded Marner, Nylander, or even Rielly. It's the only way I really see them doing something big.

That and the upcoming Expansion Draft. The thing is, whoever acquires a player, would have to have assurances that the player would not have to be exposed and or would not be picked in the ED.

I think that's what is holding up trades. I'm guessing a lot more action after Seattle picks and freeze is over. I think Thursday at 12pm?!?

ummmm he is the 6th highest paid D in the league. As an RFA. Post pandemic.

he has a career high of 35 ish points.

I like the player but to pretend that this is some crazy discount I mean……..
Ppg in playoffs in Dallas cup finals run. Main board think its a great deal. Over 2 million less than Marner and 3 years longer. Looks like dubas is the only gm getting bent in term by his stars.

I like Rielly, but if anything, this cements his value being around 7M, and if he wants to stay here, he'll need to take between 6-6.5M. I think it gets done.

I agree and I don't see Rielly leaving over 500k. I hope they'll get that figured out in the next few weeks after they round out the rest of the roster.

I know some people really don't seem to like Morgs and there is some valid points.

Still him and Brodie as a top pair is pretty damn good.

2 years less

And a top 4 on a team that missed this year? Maybe If he could have kept that up they might have actually made the playoffs.
Even ignoring state taxes and the completely different landscape of a flat cap. Being the highest RFA contract and 6th highest at the position as a 35 point D man. Is not some incredible deal. At all.

I like Rielly but if you sign him, you gotta try to get Oleksiak to add some size and grit to our D. If they go with the kids on the bottom pair, our D will be one of the softest and it will be another quick playoff exit.

So you don't think missing there #1 rw Radulov and #1 center Seguin for the entire year (except 11 games) is a reasonable reason for missing the playoffs? You think Heiskanen should've been able to propel the team into the playoffs himself?

Could the leafs make the playoffs without Marner and Tavares?

Should they have won without Tavares and muzzin? See goes both ways.

bottom line is. Top 6 d cap as an RFA when your career high in points is not great value. Especially not enough to miraculously somehow make it about the leafs.

never mind the pandemic and the taxes.

At least marner is a top 5 scorer who had come off 90 pts. A 35 pt D man vs a 90 pt scorer in terms of contract valuations is not exactly the same thing.

Th

Dubas plz

The man has the sezize sire, could hit a bit more, but so could all of our current suckas. Appleton, cheap would serve us correctly. Like they said in that "shining film" by kubrick, stanley: "I corrected them, sir". We could be corrected too milord..... hard.

Leafs would be lucky to get Hieskanen for Marner.

Instead of just losing Kerfoot and getting the cap room... not necessarily a bad idea... but then you'd have to expose Holl and Dermott... unless you use them in a trade for Appleton... thing is are Holl or Dermott better than Jets top 3 they're protecting.

Who cares if you lose Dermott or Holl?

They're both nothing special.

The Leafs should be trying to get a couple forwards if posssible and going 7-3-1. Dermott and Holl shouldnt stop them from that.

You can still expose Kerfoot and protect Engvall too.

Not saying I do care about Holl, Dermott, or Kerfoot... the reality is were losing one. It's more about if the Jets would be interested... because we can't afford to use more picks and we need to keep our good young prospects to fill some spots too.

Quite a position Dubas has put the team in, eh?

#1 defenseman 8.45 mill/8 years > #1 winger 10.893 @ 6 years

Dallas has 2.5 million more to work with and even more term security. These contracts aren't really close.

If marner was on 8 years, he would make 20 million mpre than Heiskanen over the length of the contract.
