They still have to leave two of those forwards unprotected to meet requirements I think.

Jost meets the forward requirement, so it would only have to be one. I imagine they could either sign Landeskog and expose Compher, since I doubt they care about losing him, or will sign Calvert or Bellmare for cheap and expose them.

EDIT: I actually see them protecting Jost over Compher. He is overpaid for what he provides, and they have tried moving him before IIRC.

I think we already seriously compete.
What is serious contention by your standards?

What inspires you confidence that Marner and/or Matthews and/or JT and/or Nylander will be able to figure it all at once at the same time for four rounds?

There is no disputing we have traded offensive depth for defensive depth. We have a good top 4 with solid 5-7 options but have seen this occurring at the cost of sacrifices to the top 9.

We need robertson+ Anderson + Brooks/Hallinder to be impact players next year if we want to gain back that offensive depth and edge we've had in the past and and need the star forwards to figure it out in April

We are fringe contenders right now and not a top 5 team next year

Capfriendly says no.

That checkmark says he is. Obviously he needs to be tendered as an RFA but Colorado would be stupid not to do that.

*Not again for the first time, under the proper divisions. Before this messed up season we were 7th or 8th outside of the 2020 where we dipped down to 11th or 12th.

Leafs are going to be at best 6th to 8th range in the regular season again while having no playoff abilities

OK.

We need a third line that can crash and bang but also be a shutdown line. Who do you thin should be on this line?

he rejected 7M per? yea the Leafs are not getting him.

Yeah, these are much more reasonable than the 5.5 mentioned earlier. If he leaves Colorado it'll be because some team blows him away with $8-9 on a long-term deal, and that won't be Toronto.

No the checkmark means they can take him. But he has to be in green to mean he fits the exposure criteria.

Anyone on the list can be taken, even if they don't have a checkmark.

He's not green because he is not officially tendered an RFA contract according to Capfriendly, and therefore not considered to be under contract for 2021-2022.

Now the question is whether he can be tendered before expansion. No idea. I imagine they re-sign Jost before expansion, or at least re-sign Bellemare or Calvert so they can expose them and Compher (since they probably want to protect Jost over Compher anyways).

They've got 24 hours until they submit their list.

They moved Graves today and it is a lot less complicated to re-sign Calvert or Bellemare to a league minimum deal. They probably even have a framework for Jost too... He's not going to get a significant more than his QO on his next deal.

I imagine a lot of teams, including the Leafs, will figure themselves out in the next 24 hours. They have to have their lists submitted by Saturday, and it likely will be 3PM EST or something like that... So teams have 1.5 days and a lot can happen before then.
