Sweet baby jesus that's just some horrific cap management.

Yes they're looking at losing Dumba in the expansion draft if they hold onto Suter, but to impair your cap like that for 4 years is a really restrictive move.

Yeah, they're screwed. On an 81.5 million dollar cap, their cap ceiling in year two is 68.75 and 66.75 in years three & four. For reference, New Jersey had the lowest team cap hit this season at 70.9 and the cap median is 70.85. They should just tank for Wright and Bedard, their ELCs would be up once the buyout hit drops to a manageable 1.66.

Nashville is a disaster waiting to happen as well with Weber's potential recapture and possible buyouts for Duchene and/or Johansson.

They could have just went 4-4-1 and protected Dumba. You end up losing Greenway which is still a good player but not exactly a huge loss in the big picture.

I feel like they could have found a home for him via trade, way more appealing than the dead space.

Hell, even buying out Parise and going

4/4/1 and just suck it up for whoever you lose. Suter is still a *good* defenseman.

If they traded them the recapture penalties could be enormous since they hadn't paid down any of their cap advantage. ~20 million a piece if they retired with one year remaining and I doubt either were going to be playing in their 40's for a million bucks.

If Suter and Parise were born in the GTA they'd both be playing key minutes for us next year

Suter on the bottom-pair with Liljegren would be fantastic for his development. Suter is exactly the sort of defenseman he should model his game after. It won't happen, but it's fun to dream.

Suter would be a great veteran sign for sure, especially if Dermott is moved. He'd also be a great mentor for Sandin, and be some insurance if someone else in the top 4 (like Rielly or Muzzin) were injured

I would say they maybe asked Parise to waive his NM and he refused, hence the buyout. If he has also declined any kind of trade that would have forced Minny's hand unless they were prepared to stick with his $7.5M for the next four years.

Suter will not leave the US. If management wants to go the veteran route to improve the blueline, options like Hjalmarsson or Savard would be way more appealing for the right-side, especially considering Suter is still a top 4 D who will get paid comfortably on his new deal despite his age.

Dubas was tied to Stecher rumours a year ago. His Team Canada performance recently definitely impressed.

But acquiring Stecher both a) doesn't improve the top 6, and b) blocks Liljegren.

If they don't have faith in Liljegren being a #6/7 D in his D+5, they need to trade him this summer. He's easily capable of it.

Alexandar Georgiev for 1a/b?

Hotstove had a podcast and mentioned him. Also mentioned Jordan Martinook & Brock McGinn as FA targets

Or like Giordano he could be a Rielly replacement for a year of two to see if Sandin actually has the high end potential we hope for. That buys them a year to evaluate and a strong group of UFA LD in two years time including Rielly himself. I don't think Suter has particular ties to any other cities but he seems like a guy who has made his money and will line up to sign at T Bay for a shot at his ring.

Friedman on 31 thoughts podcast wonders if Winnipeg moves Copp if they cant sign him long term.

They dont know if they want to protect him if they cant get a deal done. They dont want to lose Appleton and then Copp a year later.

Dvorak's name is out there again, would be an incredible 3C option making a hair less than a million more than Kerfoot for four more seasons. Wouldnt be cheap though that's for sure.

Why would he cost a lot? He is good on draws, and scores a bit more, but he is not exactly a guy worth 4.5 mill. His defensive game is lacking. His offense is nothing special considering he plays more than Nylander and Tavares and hasn't paced better than 25 goals/45 points in his career to this point. He is not big or physical, and has had major injury troubles already.

All in all, I doubt he gets much more than what Kerfoot would get in a trade.

I'd be thrilled with adding Suter but I highly doubt he leaves the U.S.

Been away from the boards for a while and was pretty grossed out to see the same 2-3 posters incessantly troll in this thread. I never understood why people would 'cheer' for a team that they hate. No one is forcing your fandom on you.

His TOI is 17 minutes a gamer and includes pp time so probably drops 20% or more with the Leafs. Scoring per 60 is worse than Kerfoot although so are the team mates. Even though he is just over 4' tall I think I would prefer Garland from the Yotes.

Having a Suter and a Muzzin pairing would be a bruising pair to have, like many have said though, I would be surprised if he would leave the USA to come to Canada.

Dvorak is a good C but 4.5m is quite expensive to have as your third line center, if Toronto is going to look for a new centreman for the third line, it needs to be in the 2.75m-3.25m range and better then Kerfoot. I liked Kerfoot but he was a much better winger then center and made too much money to be a mediocre centreman for the 3rd line.

Imagine getting a real killer like Jenner for the dirty third milord.

That sucka right thurr is a real killa, for that low scrilla. For life sire. He ain't no powerplay sucka, he just twerkin on that PK, all night long. Still scesoring, WHAT!!!!

Landeskog Matthews Nylander
Robertson Tavares Hyman
Foligno Kerfoot Coleman
Engvall Spezza Simmonds
Brooks

Rielly Hamilton
Muzzin Brodie
Sandin Bogosian
Hutton Liljegren

Is this doable under the cap if we shed Marner and Holl and Dermott?

Landeskog would eat noses off in toronto like tyson did back in his soulja prime sire. He would totally tyson kill errrbody out hurr.
Also eh uh, Jenner's scoring has gotten low during these last 3 seasons. He could be had, like real hard and low money. Like 3 mil per year. Cause he only a pk kill and a real killa for the scrilla for life. Only doing that dirty third line minute, playing that safe lead for us. Still thuggin, WHAT!

I think Dvorak could be a good target but likely would be used as a top 6 winger and long term JT C replacement as Tavares moves to wing.

14m won't get you Hamilton, Landrskog, Coleman, and Hyman. You probably need another 7m min.
