He could but now that he has 2 cups he could just just play for money now tbh. I still think he'd choose us over most teams but if a team like Boston offers him something much more than we do I can see him go there. This way he still has a chance to win and he's making the most amount of money possible. We usually don't get the hometown discounts until they are at the end of their careers and not many other teams want them.

Agreed - but we get discounts/advantages in other areas. We attract ELC/overseas prospects/talent because our AHL facilities, staff, and accommodations are second to none. However, players wont offer us a discount in the prime of their careers when they're making less here comparatively already.

Who is on your A wish list and B wish list?

A list
Goodrow
Tkachuk
Konecny
Bertuzzi
Coleman
Suter
Oleksiak
Georgiev
Bogosian
Kilorn
Chychrun
Zacha
Saad
Granlund
Larsson

B list
Galchenyuk (cheap)
Parise (cheap)
Bunting
Patrick
Dvorak
Katchouk
Palmieri
E. Kane
Ullmark

Needs to be broken out into UFA and Trades.

A via trade:
Konecny
Bertuzzi
Chychrun (very doubtful we can get him though)
Katchouk

A via UFA:
Oleksiak
Goodrow OR Coleman

I would also add a sleeper target via trade: N Caamano

I would add Foegele to my A-list via trade. I think he'd be perfect with Matthews and Marner. Suddenly the top line would have some size to go with the skill.

The making less thing is questionable. Sure they are taxed, but every player and their mothers get sponsorship deals and are paid USD but spending in CAD.

Servalli thinks the 4 haves and Rielly will be Leafs this year.

The only question mark was Rielly - and it seems he's willing to take a good deal to stay.

So not surprising.

Not surprising. Dubas is basically gambling his job at this point though running the big 4 with very few changes to the roster.

Yeah but unfortunately we haven't really found a gem from overseas yet. Think Mikheyev is the first one who has played more than 1 NHL season with us. I really liked Soshnikov and unfortunately injuries hurt his time here and if he came 1 or 2 years later I think maybe he would've stayed longer. We bring these players over to play 4th line minutes usually when they need top 6 minutes to be able to get comfortable more over here on the smaller ice and to play with better players. This most recent one we signed seems more like a 3rd line Center guy who can chip in offensively from what I've heard about him so lets see if he can make the team. He's also been friends or has played with Mikheyev since they were 6 so maybe he can help Mikheyev get his offensive touch back over here.

Might be fair to say after the ED/Draft/Free Agency. You're pretty much handcuffed until the ED. While the core will probably be staying together, the supporting cast around him should be different this season. Probably will have a different philosophy in FA this year instead of trying to find "grizzled vets, who are hungry for the cup."

Shanahan, and Dubas are both on the line. While the top 3 defense and top 4 forwards are staying the same, there will be several changes.

As of now, we have;

XXXXX - Matthews - Marner
XXXXX - Tavares - Nylander
XXXXX - XXXXX - Mikheyev
Simmonds - Engvall - Spezza
Brooks

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Dermott - XXXXX
Sandin

Campbell - XXXXX

Expansion Possibilities: Kerfoot, Holl, Dermott, depending on protection list. Let's assume Kerfoot goes. We plug in Dermott and Holl back to the defense. We still require 4 new players in our top 9, a d-man, and a second goalie. I think we all hope Bogosian is able to come back. I haven't seen anyone upset at the idea of Galch coming back either.

That doesn't even factor in the possibility of other moves, such as Mikheyev, Engvall, Dermott, Holl, Kerfoot being used in trades. Right now, I think it's only certain 6 of our forwards will be back for sure (big 4, spezza, simmonds)

Regardless, the changes in the top 9 and our second goalie will have a BIG impact this season. So while it's not the Marner trade some of us wanted, it's still going to be a decent turnover, where we need it most (F's and 2G - we don't need turnover on D) at least where we are today.

It's going to be of the bargain bin variety save for maybe 1 addition, the team's fate is unlikely to improve. I understand the season is likely a write off but the price we pay to finally move on from the Dubas experiment.

BIGGEST mistake is letting Hyman go! TO are boneheads. This guy brings it every night. Unlike some others. Terrible decision to let him go. It will be felt. These are the exact players you need in the playoffs.

They'd rather keep him but he is too expensive. That is what happens when your stars prefer money over better supporting cast. Best to get used to it.
