Friedman saying the Jets are talking Rutger McGoarty in trade talks, presumably doesn’t want to sign there.

If he is amenable to Toronto, could be a great target. I remember liking his game in his draft year, seems like a winning player.

Apparently Rutger McGroarty is not going to sign with Winnipeg. I would do a Minten for McGroarty trade.

Lindholm @ 7m
Skjei @ 7.5m
Stolarz @ 2.5m
Hakanpää @ 1.5m

Waive Reeves.

Trade Robertson, Lilijgren

Leaves 500k in cap space. Could make it work by promoting youth afterwards for forward ranks.

I was using Brossoit and almost the same amount for Lindholm and Skjei.
Re-signed Liljegren.
Couldn't get under the Cap with a NHL defense.
Also didn't assume magic trades for Cap compliance.

Circled are issues ... I'd take Stolarz at your 2.5, but I'm guessing that won't happen. I think Goalies are going to be overpaid at the bottom level.
Going at 2.5 would put the following Cap Compliant, and with a little wiggling on Lindholm could get a prospect into the line-up.
Of course the magic disappearance of Kampf would help.

It's like this every year after Marner lays an egg. People forget the emotional gut punch of his little playoff meltdowns and no shows and things return to normal and we start hyping up the boyband again.
It is like this every year. After the emotional gut punch of the team losing, a bunch of people attempt to blame everything on Marner instead of looking at what actually happened and the actual issues, and they advocate for damaging this team moving forward in exchange for a brief moment of personal catharsis. As we get more distance from the emotional event, what's realistic and best for the team starts overcoming that initial reaction, and I hope management gets to that point before they really screw up this team's future cup potential.
It doesn't have to bring in a player to replace Marners production.
Nobody said it did. But we do need to replace his level of impact and then some, within that cap space, if the objective of this is to improve the team. I don't see many realistic pathways to that. And nobody advocating for him to leave is suggesting realistic pathways to improve the team through it either. It's just angry, exaggerated statements, and then acting like the basic act of breaking up the core is going to magically fix everything. It's like that old meme:

Step 1: Break up core.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit.

Most people are so focused on step 1, that they're missing the most important step. Without step 2, there is no actual plan.

Two takeaways from this.

It means the Leafs 1st this draft is being shopped (maybe don't look at those draft lists too closely this year)

And, it seems to confirm the rumors from mid season that the Flames are reluctant to trade with Tre

Kling was a bottom pair PP specialist seeing reduced time as the year went on. After going to Minny he was their #6 and really saw a limited role. We knew what we were getting, but people hoped it was enough offense

OEL was an overpaid D with expectations mounting. Still a half decent player, but not the #1 Van expected or paid for.

Benoit ended up as a 6 for us in a relatively specialized role making under a million. One of the things he provided was safe minutes, which is the opposite of Klingberg.

It's risky to bring in a bottom pair offensive specialist because they really have limited usage.

even if he was playing ib a 3rd pair, he still playing over 16 min at 5v5 be the most productive dmen at 5v5 to create thing offensively from d a part of the game leafs having big issues.
You didn’t actually see any of them play correct?

and you probably watched them played more than NHL team eho spend money on scout to watch those player all year long and even he had a pretty bad year, he still producing more than oel this season and th e offensive part is the reason why they signed him

and i will add he ca be an option for leafs to resign Klinberg at good salary who can be a great option unstead of spend 7,5M in a guy like Montour and regret this signing in 2 or 3 season

With the Markstrom rumors coming out now, it tells me Treliving is definitely looking for a true #1. In saying that, what goalies are available? You have Saros, Ullmark, anyone else? Ullmark isn't coming here as we're on his no trade list, Saros will cost a ton.

Are you sure Ullmark wasn't applying for the job with his recent comments?

Our 1st this year? #23
He's a year closer than this years pick would probably be

Apparently leafs offered comparable deal for Markstrom but the flames said no.

We hardly have a prospect pool but we're going to trade #23 and a prospect for a mid 30's goaltender when we have almost no defenseman and are short of centers

We truly are run by ******* idiots

Did you give Brossoit 4.2M? Holy hell ULF

I think there's going to be more goaltenders available than jobs, Stolars or Brossoit will be cheaper than you think imo, like 2M cheap

Lindholm will be to expensive imo, you still need defensive help what I do is get Domi and Roslovic and use one as the 3C so I can still throw 12M or so at the backend

I hope you are correct, but I suspect there are going to be teams lining up for goalies who people think were blocked by true #1's.

If we are sitting here listing off 4-6 goaltenders to become the Leafs tandem starters, that's perhaps an indicator that greater amount in the the supply / demand ratio is demand not supply.

So who else would be in that category?
Of course Flames are perhaps between rebuilding and retooling.
Markstrom had already agreed for the Devils.
There's only three other goalies on the market that would be in the Markstrom catagory, (starter, making good money even at 4m with retention.) The only difference is Markstrom had term on his contract.

Those would be Saros/Ullmark and Gibson (long shot to actually trade for him).
