To go back to the goaltending talk, the more I think about it the more I'm not interested in Brossoit. It looked like Vegas was about to blow it to Edmonton before Hill came in. Brossoit was outplayed by Hill, Thompson, and Quick (who was just too worn down to play too many games after a rough season in LA).

Brossoit looked great in Winnipeg, but so did Hellebuyck. Bones had them playing a very sound defensive structure that got exposed badly in the playoffs. Brossoit shpuld get his chance as a 1B next season but I wouldn't want it to be in Toronto.

The only UFA I've got any interest in is Stolarz. I think he's got higher upside for a position you'll need at least 40 games from. Otherwise it'll have to be a trade... Gibson or Blackwood.

The assuredness in which Dreger speaks about the $12.5 million on Marner’s next AAV vs when he talks about a Sam Reinhart extension for example.

When he speaks about Marner the salary demand is escalatory and a certainty, the drama and uncertainty dialed up high and the Leafs always characterized as over a barrel.

When it’s Reinhart, it’s usually papered over with there’s mutual desire to get it done, wait and see no biggie and described in language like it won’t be a precedent setting deal.

Plus the usual "He should come in at or under Tkachuk's deal" - not "He's gonna blow past Tkachuk and earn $$$$$"

Where is he going to go to get an option as a 1?

Maybe Utah? Ottawa? Who needs a goalie really? Columbus? I don’t see an option

Toronto and Washington I think are the only ones without 2 signed right?

Utah has 2 goalies better than him. His only options as a starter are Ottawa, Columbus, Chicago, Philly. Even backup jobs are dwindling, and I can't see most teams contenders wanting a headcase like him as the backup

This is interesting that 30 teams have two goalies signed already. I guess some of those teams will still be in the market for a third or someone who knows someone on their depth chart down to third.

I have been wondering how supply and demand lines up in the UFA and trade goalie market. It feels like there are a few options out there for 1Bs and backups and based on what you said this might help the Leafs get one of those at a reasonable price.

What teams will we be competing for when it comes to singing Brossoit, Stolarz, Dreidger, Samsonov, Wedgewood and others.

Having said this, there are only a couple on that list that I want. One of the first three should come up at a reasonable price to be our back up playing 30 to 40 games. We should also sign a #3 (Jones, Murray). If he Nedjelkovic deal is any indication we should get a guy for under $3M and have a goalies tandem for around $3.5M and we need that so we can spend elsewhere. We also need Woll to be a healthy 1A.

I think Dreidger ends up in Winnipeg. Probably one of Stolarz/Brossoit to Detroit and the other to Toronto

How to people feel about Korpisalo as 1b? That is, if we get involved in a 3 way trade with Boston and Ottawa. I don't hate it. .

Yes, because the last shitty overpaid goalie from Ottawa worked out so well.

Dreger clearly has either the agent or Paul in his ear. I’ve never seen an insider simp so hard for a player like Darren does with Marner. Omg it’s like Darren gets commission on every word he says

I remember Chris Johnston, who is actually good at this and usually unbiased being told Dregor said Marner would sign a 13m offer sheet. His infamous response was:

Johnston did not have to eat his shoe.

All of our prospects aren't great. No team has every prospect be great. But our pool is much better than you'll admit.

When you’re listing a 25 year old 4th liners, and trying to claim 27 year old 4th liners, that’s very indicative of the strength of the pool.

Depth guys surround each other as well, and and we didn't bring ones in that would mesh in our lineup or support an influx of rookies.

If we had better young guys, that would have been great….

Yeah. Every NHL team, all the stars are cooperative and happy to earn the same or less as the next guy.

Ott would need to give us a HUGE sweetener, or retain 50% for me to have any interest
...Elvis is better and the Jackets would also need to retain and add an incentive to take him, and he's not your ideal candidate either, but, I have a feeling outside of Columbus he could regain his form.

Not many options left.
It's going to be another season of subpar goaltending, isn't it?

the Leafs made Campbell an all-star, so, even 'average' goaltending will improve here, and above average would be awesome.

He was up/down, there isn't a happy medium. It's kind of similar to his Washington capitals time.

I suspect he might get around 3.5-5M for only 1-2 years.

Reinhart's season was an aberration, and whoever pays him based on his 57 goals is going to regret it. he has also be a huge no-show in this Oilers series so far when they need his ability the most.

Makes perfect sense. Seems like they'll rebuild their positions slowly and let some of the bad contracts run out or hope they improve in value to eventually trade without having to give up assets.
