If the Rangers get knocked out, would they have any interest in Marner potentially? I’m thinking something around Marner for Miller and Chytil?

If we don’t add a good 2C or 3C the year will be a write off.
Or a goalie… Or a top four defenceman… lol

Matthews 3rd in C scoring in the league.
Tavares 29th in C scoring in the league
Domi 45th in C scoring in the league.

So.... three C's in the top 50 in the league in scoring, but the main problem of this team, is C's?

There was some good bargain options last year in OEL, Duchene, hell even RORs deal is pretty respectable given the Domi rumblings.

I think the Leafs may want to see if they can find another 1 year bargain this yeqr. Basically buy the young forwards some time before they have to make the NHL jump.

Who you thinking needs more time? If anything it seems like we have a glut of ready players but they're playing for similar spots. Realistically you probably want all of Knies, McMann, Robby and Cowen in your middle 6 LW spot, but there isn't room.

I see our needs as viable 3C and some RW options if we move Marner.

D could use some help

Worried Tre will give bloated contracts with term for middling players

I’m really hoping that Tre overpaid guys in Calgary because of the location.

Leafs shopping for forwards should be done from day 2 onwards of free agency.

However, when it comes to defenceman, I think you have to overpay to get them because almost every team is looking for a top-4 D. Hopefully, he gets a guy that fits even if it’s an overpay.

I think we really need to convince Marner to move then....

Example:
Option A (mostly based on forward depth)
- Trade with Seattle and get Wright back with Marner for Wright+++ after Marner's signigng bonus is paid do a sign and trade
- Sign ideally both of Pesce and DeMelo but if not feasible then get one and bring boosh back
- Bring back Edmundson
- Use the +++ from Marner trade to go shopping for a goalie
- Sign (2 or 3) of Domi/Bert/Toffoli/P.Kane/Noesen (X)
- Trade Kampf, Jankrok
- Total CAP OUT: (Marner+Kampf+Jankrok) = approx.15.5AAV
- Total CAP SPACE available: 15.5 + 18.5 = 34 AAV to spend

(Domi)X-Matthews-X(Kane/Bertuzzi)
Knies-Wright-Nylander
McMann-Tavares-X(Noesen/Toffoli)/Cowen
Minten-Dewar-Reaves/Holmberg

McCabe Pesce/DeMelo
Rielly Pesce/DeMelo/Boosh
Benoit Liljegren* (Give Lily PP#1 Duties)
Edmundson-Timmins
Webber

Option B (really just get #2C and #1D that can play #1PP)
- Trade Marner for cap space + picks only (no roster player)
- Go HARD after Montour (would be hard i think panthers wanna keep him)
- Go HARD after Lindholm (i wonder what his AAV would be?)
- Bring back Edmundson
- Use the picks from Marner trade to go shopping for a goalie
- Sign (ONLY 1 or 2 (if cap allows) of Domi/Bert/Toffoli/P.Kane/Noesen (X)
- Trade Kampf, Jankrok
- See if "cap" allows us to get one of Pesce/DeMelo/ worst scenario Boosh
Total CAP SPACE available: 15.5 + 18.5 = 34 AAV to spend

Knies-Matthews-X
Cowan-Lindholm-Nylander
McMann-Tavares-X/Holmberg
Minten-Dewar-Reaves/Holmberg

McCabe Montour
Rielly Pesce/DeMelo/Boosh
Benoit Liljegren*/Timmins/Boosh
Edmundson
-Timmins
Webber

Option C
Basically we want to use marner's cap hit and spread the money around and make team better overall instead of putting all our 11 million dollar eggs in one basket i.e. Marner. Also can move on from Kampf, Jankrok, etc...

Whether Option A or B or C
Prefer Option A over B as it gives us a lot of flexibility with Wright still on ELC for duration of Matthews' deal so it will give us more Bang for the Buck even if it means going for a goalie that has a high AAV that may come to us to play with Woll.

Following Season (2025-2026)
When Tavares is off the cap - use that 11 AAV very wisely to improve the team even more!

I'm worried given last offseason. It really just wasted a year, put him in a worse spot to move contracts and showed he didn't really understand the needs of the team or even basic roster construction.

Some adds were fine in isolation, but he added redundant pieces and weren't versatile

Seems to be a lot of conjecture out there with Marner, Chicago & Seth Jones. We shall see.

Honestly, I liked most of his moves last year given the hand he was dealt but there were some misses for sure.

Shanny called the core 4 and told them they were all staying before Tre was even hired if I remember correctly.

Last year, it's not because he didn't understand the neez... Just the option to fix leafs need was pretty poor so they sign player tre thing could help with one year deal and giving him a shot next season to fix the D with better player available. Last year Schenn and Holl was amount top target, just imagine.

I think games 5 and 6 looked promising in the playoffs. That was a very physical and defensive structure that almost the entire team bought into. Tre's acquisitions on D overperforming the way they did gives me some confidence he knows what a good D should look like.

But he still sucks with contracts and it's a problem.

Cant wait to hear the offseason stories
-Matthews puts on muscle
-JT has been working on his skating
-Marner is working on his shot
And a whole bunch of interviews from the regular losers about how this year is just "different".

leafs need betrer d to upgrade the offensive and gave them more freedom to forecheck and make play. If you're just trying to forecheck with 1 player and come back in neutral zone at 4 to defend, you will not put a lot of pressure on opposite D and the chance to force them to make a mistake and caught them out od position are pretty low.. But if your D are not good enough to defend off the rush without help, if you're forechecking at 2 or 3 to put pressure, if you're missing your forecheck and gave up more 3v2 or 4v2 by exemple, you need to be able to defend it. If you're not good enough, you will strugling by giving up too much goal. So whatever wich system you choose, the issue is the same one.
The issue is that Leafs better and more balance lineup and most importantly their highest paid players need to show up in playoffs.
That can’t be done with the current core.
