Radical proposal: just hold serve for the year. No panic moves that empty our cupboards. This roster is too flawed to fix in-season without trading significant assets.

Not saying to give up, but rather to be realistic and don't make desperation moves. Our core (other than JT) is still young and entering their prime so our window is far from closed.

Extend Nylander immediately. Keep our 2024 1st, Cowan, and Minten. Give Robertson extended run to get comfortable.

Next off season we'll have 16-20M in cap space to fix our defence (Pesce/Tanev/Zadorov?) and add offensive depth (Lindholm/Guentzel/Stephenson?). Cowan and/or Minten will be another year older/better and could make our team out of camp giving us more flexibility and depth.
Knies and Woll will still be cheap.
Too boring.

At this point how the team has been I'm not trading any quality prospects or 1sts to try and plug a hole. There are too many right now.

Cowan, Knies, Robertson, Minten are no-go's for the time being .. in 2 years all 4 could be making top 9 contributions up front with Matthews, Nylander, Marner (if they re-sign) while providing excellent value.

Not trading a 1st either right now.

Knies is a different level of value IMO. The other three I'd move in the right deal.

at this point obviously things could change, but at this point if I could get a decent asset back in picks/prospect at the deadline for guys like Bertuzzi/Domi/Klingberg/Samsonov I would take it. not saying I'd give them away for like a 5th round but a solid asset I would consider it.

Would you do a Bertuzzi for Marchment swap? He has played for Keefe before I believe and produced with top six minutes with the panthers (he's getting close to fourth line minutes with the stars).

Maybe I ask for 500k retention lol

Flames possibly shopping some D-men...

I’d do Brodie and a C-tier prospect for Zadorov, or straight for Tanev. I know we’re short staffed on D but what forward do you trade to get either of those two? We’ve got guys who are too valuable (the 4), young guys with upside (Knies, Robertson, Minten, Cowan), specialist types like Kampf and Domi and guys who aren’t worth shit like Reaves, Bert and Gregor.

Sadly we’re stuck with Sammy until a reliable backup emerges or he finds his game.

I would think it would be a guy like Robertson. Why would Calgary trade one of their defensemen for Brodie?

Kane would be a very interesting target. Leafs have always needed a guy who can play at the top of the lineup and be the toughest guy on the ice.

I agree, having Kane in our top 6 would definitely help. Gives Edmonton their goalie they desperately needed while losing Bertuzzi and getting Kane back at a great contract for the next 3 years.

A shame he's a terrible human being.

The one player that I think would be a smart buy low option would be Ryan McLeod from the Oilers. Him and Gregor on the fourth line would be so fun.

Get over it with the being a horrible human being BS. Multiple players in the NHL have done some pretty stupid crap, Kane's drama was just glorified for whatever reason.

Didn't you completely deny someone like Cizikas being acquired because of how crappy he is as a person? Kane's terrible list is extensive, well documented and terrible. It wasn't just 1 incident.

I'm not getting over it and I don't think many teams will either.

Yeah there is that. Has there been any issues since he's been in Edmonton?

Bertuzzi has a NMC
If he agrees to be dealt, that’s another story. Otherwise we have to give him more time and more support.

It’s frustrating, I know. Watching him now I’m thinking why was everyone so horny to get this guy… he’s shown us nothing at all. Is he injured? Is it nerves? Has he lost a step?

What?
I don't expect him to be moved anyway but he's not deserving of that, IMO.

Not really. I think the only thing since being in Edmonton was being removed from his Hockey Diversity Alliance position for not helping at all.

You're talking about a 4th line plug who killed someone by giving them a piledriver compared to someone who has had allegations against them that the NHL and courts dismissed him on. He's a horrible person because he filed for bankruptcy, he's a horrible person because he gambles? People are dying to sign Ryan O'Reilly back but people don't think he's such a horrible person even thou he drove his truck through a Tim Hortons when he was hammered. That's ok thou right. It only would've made him a horrible person if he killed someone, and even then, people still forgave and moved on when it happened to Danny Heatley.

I get what you're saying. Kane is different compared to your typical NHL player who has no personality, but because of that, it does not make him a horrible person nor teammate. If the best player in the NHL in McDavid who plays with the guy has his back then who are you as a person who doesn't know him to accuse him of being a horrible person.

I think you're forgetting the vast amount of domestic abuse as well as faking his covid vaccine, which he got suspended for. Some of this stuff is barely 2 years old. He got kicked out of the Jets for being a crappy teammate as well. They hated him badly. He then got literally bought out mid-season by the Sharks for the amount of crap he was putting them through.

Is he a new person? Maybe. I dunno. I don't know him. You can say he just has a personality, but it's not a very good one. Many players have gotten into legal issues and have done very bad things... but the list doesn't go for a mile. I'm all for second chances and a lot of these players got it. Kane is way passed that. If you want to excuse that as a fan, that's fine. I don't think the Leafs will go anywhere near that kind of off-ice circus.

We're way beyond off-topic, so I'll leave it at that.

Send Reaves down, no one will take him. We can bring him up when needed after that. But does not have a regular place on this roster
