His value is only to balance cap on a trade to a deadline seller. A selling team has no use for a UFA vet and no playoff team would value him as anything other than depth, his cap hit of $5M would require massive retention which the Leafs don't have the cap space to retain.

Rightfully so. What is the point of keeping a 25th overall pick when you have a chance to win? They can always recoup picks later when Matthews, Marner, etc. are on the back-end of their careers.
