Boston potentially saving Brad from making a move that doesn't help us. Either go for an actual upgrade with term or don't do anything at all.
I think that's the focus. The Lybushkin trade was their just get him for depth cuz it was cheap

I personally wouldn’t trade a 1st for either Savard or Jensen, but if the rest of the deal was offset maybe. Any forwards on either team we think can help?
I mentioned this a few pages ago but if we’re trading our 1st for Savard, Evans would be another addition along with Colorado’s 2nd I’d like apart of the deal. Obviously the Leafs will need to add, maybe Steeves or another prospect.

Getting 27 year old Noah Hanifin, who has indicated that he'll re-sign in Vegas, for a couple draft picks with conditions that would allow Vegas to add more at the deadline, is in another realm than trading multiple draft picks for guys approaching their mid 30s, on expiring contracts.
I think the Hanafin trade is great, but conditions don't change that he's more expensive than Foligno was, and I haven't seen Hanafin indicate anywhere that he's re-signing. He's a pending UFA just like the rest, and if anything, most reports suggest he has his UFA sights set elsewhere. Vegas is also a wild card team fighting to even make the playoffs, and the only reason they can even do this is more LTIR manipulation. I wasn't suggesting that what Vegas did was bad. But it is disappointing to see the hypocrisy and revisionist history present in these discussions.

Go out there and get me Parayko.

Enough of this Rielly doesn't have a partner shit
No no, we should trade/sign lesser players to play beside 44 for another 5 years so we can complain in the entire Matthews era, we didn't get a proper d-core once with him.

It's a risk for Parayko, and he's not a top 2 d-man in the league, but he's a top 4 RHD and probably will be for the next 4 years..

He’s definitely worth a 1st. He’s still a top pairing defenceman and that contract shouldn’t be terrible for another 4 years.
Much more so then nick Jensen or Edmondson or something stupid.

Obviously the cap hit becomes a problem for next season though.

I really hope Tre understands that it's been torture trying to find Rielly a partner for the last 5 years

Parayko would definitely help, but at what cost, and no one can definitively say a player like Peeke couldn’t be a good younger pairing for Rielly at a fraction of the cost……..

The cap hit isn’t that bad even for next season. Very manageable, he’s only 1.5 million more then the pylon Brodie.

Seems like the Leafs just want to target a lower end option and hope that option outgrows their current worth similar to Simon Benoit and Lyubushkin (hasn't been here long enough to determine where he lands).

Edmundson tracks as a capable physical defensive defenseman for awhile but he has struggled badly in the last few years, going from one bad team to another. Hard to be excited about someone that plays less than 17 minutes and with no PK or PP minutes. He doesn't even hit a lot either.

Not sure what the Leafs would offer but it could make sense if they want to go from Timmins to Edmundson (directly or indirectly).

Edmundson tracks as a capable physical defensive defenseman for awhile, but he has struggled in the last couple years for sure, going from one bad team to another.

This is more likely the move we see.

Rielly - Lyubushkin
Edmundson - McCabe
Benoit - Liljegren

I’d move Brodie for a depth forward.

I often wonder where this team would have gone/been if Lou was kept on and Boy Wonder went to Colorado as rumoured………
You're not alone.

Lou Lam was named 2 X Exec of the year in the following 2 seasons leaving the Leafs by taking the non playoff NYI to the final 4 in back to back years.

Now Leafs are trapped in Cap Hell and have to ride out the next 2 years until JT contract comes off the books before they will have more freedom to rebuild this team particularly this defense core,.

Not sure Treliving can do much given the current situation.,

So my expectations remain low and reserved and accept that this is the team most likely going to take their chances. IMO

Top tier team with the core all signed.. Tons of internal help on ELCs.. A bunch of promising prospects beyond them.. Draft picks to use.. Tens of millions in cap space..
Poor ol' Brad never had a chance!

I don't think Lou was any better. That Zaitsev and Marleau contract set the team back as well. I believe that other team are so lucky that Toronto has been miss managing their cap over the past 6 years. Other wise I believe Toronto could had been a powerhouse.
