Carrier is still kicking but I haven't seen much smoke with him. He'd add a good amount of mobility and tenacity to the back end. No idea of the price it would take but he's probably the one available defenseman that fits the cap without removing too much and that would be a pretty solid upgrade.

A shame the Leafs couldn't pull off Laughton and Walker.

I see a lot of really decent picks here. Not guarantees, but decent. Compare that to before him - we missed on so many picks. You haven't really changed my opinion here.
Which era are you talking about specifically when you say "before him".

2001 Draft:
Carlo Colaiacovo (#17)
Brendan Bell (#65)
Jay Harrison (#82)
Kyle Wellwood (134)

2002 Draft:
Alex Steen (#24)
Matt Stajan (#57)
Ian White (#191)

2005 Draft:
Tuuka Rask (#21)
Anton Stralman (#216)

2006 Draft:
Jiri Tlusty (#13)
Nikoli Kulemin (#44)
James Reimer (#99)
Korbinen Holzer (#111)
Viktor Stalberg (#161)
Leo Komorov (#180)

Did Dubas have a draft that stacks up to any of above ones mentioned? Interesting enough is this was the period of time when the Leafs were transitioning from being a contender (all in) to missing the playoffs consistently, I used this time frame as you can see that this wasn't when Leafs were drafting top 5 or top 10.

If you look at the Leafs drafting record prior to Dubas being the GM, they consistently drafted a couple of NHL regulars each draft but the organization never seemed to have a reputation of being good at the draft table. Funny that Dubas received that label even though the drafting was subpar during this tenure as the Leafs GM and doesn't stack up what the organization was able to accomplish pre Dubas.

Crazy to see Vegas trade for or sign during free agency so many big name players. In their 6 years of existence they've probably traded/signed more good/great players than the Leafs have in the past 20-25 years. Just goes to show how weather and the location of your city can help alot with getting good players to your team and having them re-sign with you.

Are they even selling now? Things have gone really quiet in Preds land since they went on this heater

What about Ryan Johansen at 50%?

Probably suit the Flyers to get rid of him, they retain 50% so he only costs us a couple of Mill and he could play as our 3C

Yes they aren't great but he'd be playing a line lower with some pretty good offensive players

I'm just wondering if he'd be a better fit defensively than Domi
RyJo is bad defensively. If you're acquiring him, it's not for that lol

Your Worst Nightmare
The big trade on the table going into the deadline seems to be using their 1st rd. pick to land either David Savard or Nick Jensen with 50% percent retention to play with Rielly.

Rielly - Savard/Jensen
Brodie - Liljegren
McCabe - Lyubushkin
ex. Benoit - Giordano

In terms of time on ice and role they compare well with someone like Tanev. This move would bring one of them in with some term. A 1st for Savard/Jensen with some term at a good number is better than trading it for Tanev and then having to renegotiate for next season at higher cap hit with next years cap squeeze.

They are both 33 years old for this run. They will turn 34 to start next season. Jensen would have a 3rd year at age 35, but his contract would reduce to 1M owed after his final signing bonus making him very easy to unload in his final season if need be.

If this happens, I honestly expect Lily to be the scratch.

Benoit has been a rock this year. Can't see Keefe giving that up.

I personally wouldn’t trade a 1st for either Savard or Jensen, but if the rest of the deal was offset maybe. Any forwards on either team we think can help?

That seems like paying a 1st just for the sake of paying a 1st and making a splash.

These guys are #5ish dmen on good teams, and they're in their mid 30s. That's where Jensen slotted on Washington when Washington was still good and where Savard slotted on TB.

I also don't look at that blueline and think it looks comparable to past Cup winners - either make a move for a legit #2ish dman, or don't bother overpaying for a piece that doesn't adequately address the problem.

That’s not what happened at all. He left because he didn’t like the media scrutiny. This is on record
People don't seem to care about what's on record anymore. People claiming that O'Rielly disliked the room... People claiming that Foligno's injury happened prior to the trade... People claiming that our adds weren't some of the biggest adds of the deadlines, and that they weren't loved by our fanbase... Revisionist history everywhere.

I would not have. Byram’s head injury history is terrifying

Finally have a rookie who looks like he will be a rare legit top 6 power forward in this league. No way should we be trading him for an injury plagued top 4 D. Knies is only going to get better.
