Parayko only makes $1.5m more than Brodie, I think we have that much cap room right now even with a full roster. If not, we can always go down to 21 guys instead of the 23 we're carrying now.
Yes you are correct. You could send down Jones and another person like Timmins and be cap compliant. Even if retention was not included.

Yeah I think Timmins gets waived in that scenario. Jones would apparently be claimed if waived today (apparently Philly wants him) but if we waive him after the deadline he's not eligible to play in the playoffs, so he likely goes through no problem.

Feels like the Av’s sold a bit low on Bryam but Middlestadt could fill both a long term and short term need if he progresses

He's the only guy who is waiver eligible... pretty much the only reason he isn't in the lineup right now.

That explains why he could be assigned to the AHL, but it doesn't explain why he would be a healthy scratch.

If Sheldon Keefe believed the Maple Leafs were better with Nick Robertson, he'd be in the lineup every game.

Honestly I’m ready to mostly sit this deadline out. I don’t like the prices some of these guys are going for and we need to refill our prospect cupboard a bit.
Would it really be the worst thing? The Panthers didn’t do much at the deadline last year after going kinda crazy the year before and Vegas added Barbashev for a meh prospect despite his draft pedigree. Neither of those teams spent a crazy amount

I feel like Byram for Mittelstadt is the kind of deal Toronto ought to have made if we had a Mittelstadt to give away. But not really a good fit for Buffalo.

Robertson isn’t the best option to be in the Leaf lineup on any given night and may never be. But it’s the part of future development that can’t be shut down 100% because every team in the league needs to put something into future development so a young player may hit developmental spurt and becomes more useful and impactful. Part of the business.

This also requires believing that Keefe almost always makes the correct decisions regarding the lineup.

I also think that's the kind of deal that would get shit on if it was posted to the trade boards here.

Sometimes a team likes a player and will make a subsequent move, not everything has to make 100% sense.

GMs are not infallible either.

Spector was talking about McLeod #3C not being able to handle the playoff grind so that is one of the reasons they acquired Henrique. I doubt Robbie can handle more than one playoff round.

Not really freaking out over the Leafs lack of moves. Leafs made a ton of loves last year and it earned them 4 extra playoff games than the usual 7 and done. Like I get Walker was on the radar but I would not have paid a 1st for him.
Agreed. I'm trying to defer my lack of belief in this core until the offseason but realistically we're out in the first or second round and I'd rather keep our assets when it inevitably happens and we give Marner 12.95M.

When you are not willing to deal the few good trade assets you have, it makes sense. I liken it to going into a Ferrari dealership with only enough money to buy a Dodge Dart.

Maybe there won't be any buyers left for Guentzel and we can get him for a couple of the smurfs Dubas drafted?
