I find it hard to believe Tre traded two picks for Lyubushkin to only have him sit in the press box. He’s exactly what Tre loves having on his blueline.

Also outside of Hanifin, what top four dman is actually available that is a clear upgrade on what we currently have?

We know what Boosh is, but the sad thing is what an upgrade he represents to this ailing defense. Happy to have him even though I admit part of me is l was wishing for a top 4 upgrade.

I'm guessing top 4 upgrades will be an off-season initiative.

The double retention is interesting though...

Isn't Jensen like a more mature Liljegren? I think they have a similar style. I think this would only make sense if Liljegren is more injured than what we think or if Liljegren is going the other way and we're getting something else in a bigger deal.

I would compare him more to TJ Brodie right now. Moves around well and pretty good defensively all around. Offensively he had a career year last year but typically he's really not much of a point producer at all.

I don't think the interest is overly high in Jensen unless he's practically given away. 4M cap hit for the next 2 seasons for a soon to be 34 year old is pretty risky.

Yeah, I've always viewed him as a good skating, mobile kind of guy. I can see this work only if he is a Brodie or Liljegren replacement.

I think Boosh is just insurance that’s why they got double retention. He’s at league minimum now. Gio is out so he basically takes up the #7 spot come playoff time. The Leafs aren’t done, I have a feeling Sean Walker is on our radar. He’s only 29, he’s from Keswick, grew up a Leaf fan, upcoming UFA but I’m pretty sure the Leafs could extend him at a decent number. Most importantly he’s another righty. This is a guy you could probably spend a first on knowing that you could extend him long term, unlike Tanev who could break at any time

Listed are Carrier, Dowd and Olofsson
I like Carrier as a free agent int he summer. I just don't know how he fits with the Leafs.
He is just a really well rounded defender.

I was hoping to see Lilly with Reilly for an extended period time to see if that works.
Carrier is more a 2nd pairing RHD in my mind.

Yeah I have no idea how some people think we are done after getting Bush. We lost Gio so we didnt even gain a dman.

Walker is my main realistic target (unless you consider Roy realistic) and I would not hate to see our 1st go the other way.

I proposed our 1st for Walker and Columbus' 2nd which Philly owns, but I dont see them doing that to only move up 10-15 spots.

As previously mentioned we dont pick until the 5th round in 2025. Philly has all their 2025 picks plus a few extra. Maybe we could snag a couple later picks like their 3rd? I just dont value Walker as a rental, at a 1st round pick, I would like to -especially with our lack of picks- bring back a later pick or 2 if we move our 1st for him

Lybushkin was such a shitty addition.

Jensen would be a pretty mediocre addition too.

Basically get a REAL top 4 RD defenseman or don't bother. I feel like I just saw this team flush a 3rd and 6th round pick down the toilet.

I was on the Lybushkin train the first time around but our needs are different now versus last time.

Jensen is an interesting one, he's on the wrong side of 30, but he's still a top 4 guy. He'll be signed till 35 year old which I don't love. I don't think he's worth the price.

If Kuznetsov gets out of the PA, he'd be an interesting 2c target. He wants out, and his TV is probably low. But he's talented and is a playoff performer. Obviously, that's if they want to go all in.

Dowd + Jensen for an astronomical cost would be a big mistake.

Your Worst Nightmare
Nick Jensen (50% retained - 2.025M per for 3 years) + 2024 4th rd. Pick

for

Conor Timmins + 2024 1st rd. Pick (Top-10 Protected)

The Caps would probably do the McCabe deal. 50% retention on a 3 year deal for a 1st. They're building, have open retention slots and Jensen is relatively mediocre. The Leafs could push that one over the line.

It would fill a hole for them also. They get a partner for Rielly for this run, pushing Lube to #7 defenseman. With Brodie expiring, Jensen fills his role going into the next couple years at a great price. He brings sandpaper and can play a few minutes a game more than Lyubushkin.

Rielly Dumba
Brodie Lyubushkin

OUT: Liljegren, Robertson, Kämpf, Järnkrok, Gregor,
I would like Bjugstad, Duclair and Borgen if at all possible.

Tough to do though.

Maybe we can save the 1st for a forward:

Lily + Niemelä + Timmins (dump) for Jensen (50%) + Edmundson + Dowd

Rielly Boosh
Brodie Jensen
Benoit/Edmundson McCabe

Boosh isn't insurance he's going to play every game and probably PK too. The only GM who trades 3rd rounders for the player to sit in the press box is Dubas
That's my hope as well. He's been traded for, he's going to play. You don't trade a 3rd and a 6th for 7th dman insurance. You trade a 5th at most for that and move on. Let's see what he can do, especially on the pk which has been rough.

We don’t have cap space nor need to add a forward if we’re adding another D. We have a top 3 offence. The point is to add a rhd, not replace one, and not add yet another 7th dman. Jensen would however be a great partner for Rielly.

1st, Timmins, Steeves, maybe Gregor for Jensen 50% + Dowd (would also be a nice pickup)

To me that package for Jensen or Roy would be great for this team.

You don't need to classify Timmins as a dump. You can bury almost all his cap in the minors.

So if he was included, it would be because the Caps want him as a player not as a dump.

Leafs are at 48 contracts, so 2 contracts out 3 contracts in leaves them one for Grebenkin. :thumbu:

Unless Jensen came with 50% retention and the cost still being relatively low, I don’t have much interest in him. He’s basically Brodie just right handed.

I think you stay pat with the blueline now unfortunately and wait for the off-season and go hard after Hanifin. Roy or Demelo would be good too.

Right now,
Rielly - Lybushkin
Brodie - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe

Off-season,
Rielly - Lybushkin
Hanifin - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe
