Drew O'Connor and Puljujarvi are on my Pens poaching list.
both would help and probably instantly push Palat out of our top 9. combo of size and speed is needed and Drew is a New Jersey native, more consistent and defensive responsible.

try to flip Tatar into one of Frederic or Geekie and this team will look much better and complete and Sheldon would have some flexibility

The plus is that there will be a lot of forwards available on the trade market, Fitz will have options.

Defensemen will be in much higher demand and there are fewer available, but the Devils' blueline is pretty much set.

DOC is top of my list for forward help though.

I think a temp solution for the the 4th line would be to trade for Aman since the Canucks don't have a spot for him and he's making 825k in the AHL rn/waived recently so should be basically super cheap. Then waive Macdermid to accrue necessary cap space for a more permanent solution like Jake Evans or whatever version of the Lazar trade is out there faster. And then worst case Aman is 13th forward or on Utica when the permanent solution comes and yeah 825k is probably tough for management to swallow for an AHL forward but the center depth would be helpful for future injuries and Utica needs some help anyway.

Anyway whatever solution Fitz has I hope he does it quickly at this point and that he has a Lazar trade V2 up his sleeve lol

I know the deadline is far off but if we could poach Brock Nelson or Palmieri off the Islanders, I'd be very happy. Also Fitz has to get that fourth line fixed sooner rather than later. I assume Bastian is sipping through a straw and Lazar won't be see this year or at least till the playoffs

We’re still technically 4th in our division by points percentage by a decent margin. Would be nice if the caps fell off soon. Ideally before we play them in 11 days

Rags percentage has started to fall back to normal. Be surprising if both of Washington and Carolina keep those percentages up as well.

Just need to keep finding wins where we can. It should even out by the end.

It's $2.3 mil. less then a year left. If he can help the team, and by replacing Mac he certainly would, then $2.3 is not significant. He's scored high teens goals the last 2 years. Compared to 3 total from Mac.

I'm not a big advocate of Frederic, not sure why he is on the outs up there, but I'm not at all worried about his contract.
The term is irrelevant to me. 2.3M is a lot in the context. We want to improve the team as much as we can. Sure do that and who cares about the cap if that’s all we want to do. But there’s no way it should be and there’s better players we should be able to get at that cap. Or two players of that calibre for that cap. That cap hit is more important now than in the offseason or anytime else because it massively affects even the smallest of improvements we make going forward this season. It’s wasteful and limiting.

If you believe he’s actually worth that cap sure argue that. But suggesting the cap hit doesn’t matter right now is crazy talk. There’s a reason you’ll see all the retained trades around the deadline. Everyone is trying to squeeze every last improvement in for every last dollar. Not just saying who cares about the cap hit.

Also 10th in the league, so the 4th in the division sounds worse than league wide does.

The schedule has been rough on the Devils, especially with a new coach, so I think it should be generally pretty satisfying to see them at 10th in the league at this juncture.

It’s alright. But we know our divisions tough and a decent buffer would’ve been nice.

We’re a bad stretch over the next 4 games against top 5 teams from being out of a playoff spot.

5th in the conference which sounds much better though.

+16 GD also one of the better marks in the league

Also if things do continue like this and we end up 4th (5th in the conference) with the canes rags and caps all playing at 120 point paces, that means we get to go through the atlantic side of the bracket which would be much easier.

Looking at the end of the schedule…

6 of the last 7 games is at home, with the only away game in Boston. With a 4 day break in there. So thats 3 weeks at home and getting rested before potentially going into the playoffs.

Team needs to keep on grinding these wins and getting as many point as possible through this hard stretch. Then hopefully they find a groove December to March.

It would be nice if we could actually win at home consistently
