Agreed, and those aren't "sell the farm" guys to acquire. They will absolutely acquire a top 4 defenseman between now and the deadline, and it's almost equally certain they will acquire another center.
1st + 3rd + prospect for top 4 dman with term.. but it has to be a d-man with term and there resigning like Hanafan, Tanev is not the answer.

Tanev just seems like he can turn into Jake Muzzin 2.0 at any moment.

He takes a lot of risk, wrt, sacrificing his body.

Now if he was younger you might gamble that he'd recover from expected injury, but at 34 it seems a huge risk to use 2 long term assets to acquire him.

I'd be more inclined to use 3 assets for someone under 30.

1st. and prospect for 34 year old.
1st., prospect, pick for < 30 year old.

Assuming same tier of player, that you'd re-sign to a multi-year contract.

We've got AGMs watching the Kings/Bruins right now, upon return from Woll...how far off is something like this?

Roy
Kaliyev (rumored to be on the outs there as per Friedman's 32 thoughts)

for

1st
Robertson
5th VAN
Samsonov (salary equalizer)

Not sure what is needed to even it out.

Are we also getting Talbot back? We’d need a goalie. Woll isn’t close and the Leafs don’t want to rush Hildeby.

I did say upon return of Woll, so we'd be rolling Woll-Jones.

We could give them Jones instead but then they need to retain on Roy, I am open either way.

Although I like - or am fine with - most of it, we might potentially be playing with fire by trading Samsonov.

Retention for this year only, so that's probably do-able for an add-in.

I guess the question on Kaliyev, why pull the plug now when his arbitration amount is low?
Is this one of those give him a start over elsewhere?

Roy, Kaliyev
for
1st., Robertson, Marlie not in ('Niemela','Hirvonen','Tverberg','Volt','Hildeby')

Roy is a rental, but do they have someone to replace his minutes?
Why would they move a 21 minute a game defender when they are a Wild Card team?

Don't see how this works for them and Leafs have nothing to replace him.

Unless the Kings would look at moving the 1st. + to Calgary for Hanifin?

You probably knew he got a penalty in overtime today.

Then scored the winner?

Are we sure it isn't Tavares for Doughty?
1 year at 11mm
versus
3 years at 11mm
I wish but I meant who’s gonna replace Roy for lak

They have Doughty, Clarke and Spence as RD

Kaliyev I think it's about a change of scenery based off 32 thoughts.

The media has now reported Markstrom and Saros rumours without linking Toronto.

This cannot stand.

We had a bargain: the media lists Toronto is every trade rumour for clicks and, in exchange, we get hope and speculation to cut through our normal boring lives.

So they've chosen violence.

Fetch my stick. It's time to crosscheck some faces.

Still like Hanafin over Andersson.

He'd certainly cost less. Issue is if he'd be willing to extend for Tre.

In the past apparently (allegedly) had hesitation about staying in Canada. Though Toronto likely has an easier time than Calgary convincing a guy to stay
