He was playing in our backyard as an undrafted UFA. Could have had him.I'd like to see Arber Xhekaj in Blue and White instead of wasting his knuckles as a Hab.

He cleared? That's great news!Good news is we are keeping Jones.
Having seen far too many Ross Johnston games, the correct answer is Ryan Reaves. If you had a choice between signing Ryan Reaves or claiming Ross Johnston off of waivers, which one would you choose?

Neither.
But you cant just bury him. If you chose to select him on waivers he must be on your NHL roster or waived again. The caveat is that you can completely bury Johnston in the AHL and suffer no cap consequences.
Key word is you have to choose

So you go into the training camp hoping somebody else gets waived, makes it through to our waiver position and then know that youre gonna have to waive him again anyways and hope that nobody takes him again?Yes - but in this scenario, Reaves was never signed.
Treliving wanted size / snarl on the roster...you could claim but you could get so far into the season and waive him yourself to bury him...usually once the real hockey begins, Johnston / Reaves play less or not at all.

Doesn't sound like a very solid plan to me.
Classic top of your prime contracts from the Jets… not terrible overpays IMO but the type of contracts that likely start to age poorly in 3 years.
I really thought I manifested hard enough this time. Was kind of hoping the Kings would pick up Clifford. @KingsHockey24 deserves it!
Happy to have you around here still, brother.
Seemed like at least 1.5M too much but I understand because of pending UFA + lack of city appeal they had to pay up.
He's also 3+ years older. Scheifele's contract is a retirement contract until he's 38.Does this contract impact the William Nylander negotiations?
Over the last three seasons, Scheifele has put up 201 points in 203 games. Nylander has 209 points in 214 games.

Option 3: sign Nathan Bastian as a UFA this summer for the same cap hit as Reaves. If you had a choice between signing Ryan Reaves or claiming Ross Johnston off of waivers, which one would you choose?

That’s a factor to consider, but do you think that means this contract doesn’t diminish Nylander’s strength asking for 10? A comparable player just signed for much less… again…
Nylander signing an 8 year deal takes him to 36.
I haven't watched Allison play (but there was some hype about him over the last few days while he was on waivers).Option 3: sign Nathan Bastian as a UFA this summer for the same cap hit as Reaves.
Option 4: put a waiver claim on Wade Allison.
Option 5: put a waiver claim on A.J. Greer.
All three of those players are better hockey players than Reaves today and provide a physical presence.
