Minten is by far our most important prospect right now, followed by Cowen.
We have ZERO center depth, and Minten is an outstanding big bodied 2-way player.

His top end potential can be similar to a ROR, with his bottom as a Danault type top 6 defensive specialist depending on how his offense progresses

Knies is a talented big bodied 'skilled' winger, he is not a traditional 'power forward' as he has no crash and bang to his game. he is a possession forward; think more JVR and less anyone who actually throws a check.

Robertson is expendable, he has good energy, and a good shot, but, he's trade bait.

Trying to think of a true PF in NHL today? And I mean a top line PF, not a middle 6 who is phyisical.

Think Shanahan.

Brady Tkachuk, Kane?

I thought of AO but I don't think he's a 1st. liner today.

He's a part-time specialist.
I thought he was a lock to break the goal scoring record, now, it doesnt look like a sure thing and is starting to look less possible.
he needs 67 to tie, and still has 2 seasons left on his contract.
its still possible, because its OV, but, i wouldnt bet on it today, and this time last year i would have.

Columbus is a team on the verge of a teardown I think. Could be a team worth keeping an eye on because I think it's about to reach a boiling point. They have a good collection of very good young players, but the team weirdly constructed and coached to me.

I'd make many calls on Jenner.

He would be an awesome piece to add - basically ROR with term and a team-friendly deal. I would imagine most contending teams would bid on him and it would require a painful package.

The hope I think is that they finally change their management, and the new guy goes a bit scorched earth on their veterans/team.

It will cost a lot but I'm sure there can be a good deal in there that helps both teams.

If we’re looking for a 3C, McBain would be my guy. I would even be willing to include Niemela in the deal for him.

Next year my ideal third line would be

Jarnkrok - McBain - Cowan

I honestly think he would be deserving of a Hagel-esque package. He is 15th in 5v5 goals/60 among center over the last 3 years (Danault is 16th which is wild to me).

They are finally playing meaningful hockey and McBain is signed for next year at a good clip. 7 points in 13 games (injured right now though).

Sometimes it just doesn't fit or make sense for the other team to give us players. This is that. They don't want what we have to give them. It's just like if other fans were like "Knies is my guy, let's just deal prospect currently in the AHL with 0 NHL games for him".

FWIW, Peeke played 22:43 last night for Columbus, on the second pairing, mostly with Provorov. Very heavy usage in the D zone, 1 Ozone Start, 6 D zone starts, 5 neutral zone starts.

The results don't look good, but then the team wasn't good, and I didn't watch the game, so I can't comment much on who was bad etc... they stapled the kids to the bench though... kind of strange... Adam Fantilli played 10:11, Kent Johnson 8:08 and David Jiricek 10:25. The season is lost, let the kids play and learn... What a mess of an org.

McBain would be my guy too... and I've been saying that for over a season now... but I think Dave is right... that ship has sailed.

Yes, they don't have much capital.

And their 1st. round picks aren't usually that valuable. It isn't like they pick in the top 20.

Line-up seems more like 1st. liners and 3rd. liners, with 1 top 2 defender, a couple #3's and wannabees and usedtobees.
You can't build a defense this yr without gutting your top prospect which to me is dumb.
Our core has not shown me alot in the playoffs that I dont trust them .
Florida except for schenn no one stepped into Tkachuk or Bennett they will be the same this year in the playoffs.

I would trade for a schenn deal again a
3rd + Abruzzese

Next summer is when you can change the D
Skeji or Pesce
Demelo
Tanev
Ekman-Larson he's had a rebirth
Dillon
Walker

Skeji
Demelo
Would be great start

Knies Cowen Minten Grebyonkin

Jenner would be a fantastic addition... the conversation would start at Minten, they need C's more than anything else. Probably Minten and our 1st...

Of course, how do we pick up someone like Tanev, or another top D, if we've moved our top tradeable assets?

Plus that cap becomes pretty challenging..

Yep the cap would be an issue. And I'd be more than fine with giving up Minten in this kind of deal. Could be more of an off-season thing for Jenner.

The Leafs were reportedly close to getting both Zadorov and Tanev, which funny enough Zadorov and Jenner have the same salary, so I think they had a plan to trim down cap space somewhere. It's more likely they were relying on heavy retention at the time though.

I mean, I highly doubt Columbus would withhold enough salary to make it work... but this would be fantastic for us... I think...

I don't think you have to go that far at all. Not sure why Kuraly AND Peeke are needed either.

Jenner and Peeke at 50% for the same picks and prospects, dump Kampf and Timmins in this deal or somewhere else. We're under the cap by 90k when Liljegren is off LTIR with a 22 player roster.

You can opt to not even trade for Peeke as well. Tanev at 50% for a Giordano level return and it's do-able as well, but it gets very tight.

This is the kind of GMing that needs to happen, but I'm not sure if Treliving is up for it.

Kuraly in the deal gives us Matty, Tavares, Jenner, Kuraly down the middle. It makes us more physical, as does Peeke. Without Kuraly, we are Matty, Tavares, Jenner, Holmberg down the middle... I think I'd prefer Kuraly.

Should've got him off Minny when they had the chance.

Also, PHX is full of RHD at the moment, they've got Soderstrom in AHL right now, so I don't think Niemela moves the needle for them.

Should ask and see if they want a redo on Severson, or if he wants a redo on them.

They would want Minten in this case I would be OK with this trade.
But arizona coyotes wouldn't do it.

Same with Charlie Coyle. Would have made a great addition.
Dubas loves giving up assets for over the hill players
