Agreed. He was fine on his first contract, and should not have been extended at such a raise. Seems like they thought of him as a defensive specialist, but he is overpaid for that and does not have the correct linemates. Signing Reaves and giving Kampf that deal never made sense in tandem with one another. Kampf is a 4th line defence center, and Reaves cannot play defence. Never got that idea at all.

He’s just a generic long body who can play with a bit of hustle. You could probably rotate him out for a Morgan Geekie or someone.

Klinberg on LTIR

Trade
Kampf maybe a 4th rd pk

Samsonov ( if Woll is or goaltender) lots of team need a goaltender maybe get a 3rd rd pk

Martin Jones if he can't handle the back up position or if he cant trade for a solid backup

Trade for a dman
1st is not used on a UFA

Holmberg can center the 4th line

I agree it would be the preferred option however, if there isn't a deal involving Nylander, who's really attractive if you're another team?

Knies is the first guy most would go for.
Good question. Other than our snowflakes with their NMC's, what?

I like the idea of acquiring Mackenzie Blackwood.
Even if it’s only a slight upgrade on samsonov we also save 1.3M in cap but samsonov doesn’t do anything for me

Then tanev and one of these other rhd peeke or walker

Move Brodie to left and I think only thing we can then criticize is the superstars if we don’t do well

Well, Knies namely.

But for a top 4 d between the ages 23 and 28, as described, I'm not sure it's doable. You've likely have to try to identify one before they actually are one and then hope.

For instance Philips on CHI.

.Many people would agree, but how do get a D to fit alongside the other core guys? Or do you just keep swapping guys in and out like they've been doing?
Wait till the offseason .
Maybe sign 2 of
Skeji
Pesce
Demelo
Tanev

Knies was the best player on the first line the last game

Well, depending on cap space, it's an option, but it doesn't help for this season.

Also, for a team that needs to watch every dollar, at least until JT or Marner is off the books, UFA hunting becomes even more risky.

You've got three choices.

1./ Rental
2./ Reclamation project
3./ Pay a ton.

You can combine the ideas of a reclamation project + pay a ton.

Something like Knies for Drysdale.
Is Drysdale the right fit? He has had relatively poor underlying numbers over his career and he's been injured a lot very early on.

Brandt Clarke would probably be a better target at this point. LAK looks like a real cup contender but they have a need in net and another winger with Arvidsson apparently being out for the season. There could be a deal to be made around Woll+Knies for Clarke. I'm a Woll believer so I'd be hesitant to pull off a move like that but it would fill a long-term need for the Leafs (just like goaltending is a long-term need).

Well, Anaheim was a shitshow, so his number reflect that.

Injuries are a concern, but that is part of the risk, I suppose. But once/if Drysdale fulfills his potential, then there's no chance he's moved, so you have to move for them when they're in these situations.

I guess the question is: what is his potential? His scouting reports leading up to the draft were pretty low on him and all the flaws that were there at the draft table appear to still be there (not enough offense for his size, not good defensively). His profile is closer to Sandin than it is a high end defenseman.
