Gostisbehere is certainly one of the more interesting players to come across the waiver wire. Two full seasons at 4.5 M per to come might prove to be a bit pricey for a team to take on though. I'd probably still lean towards him going unclaimed, but...

No way Ghost gets past Detroit in the priority list.

Also, Driedger would be the perfect get in the off season to pair with Campbell. No way Florida gives him up now

I'm shocked if there's not a taker on him... he's owed much less is in salary than remaining cap hit, upside is huge if a team can rediscover it; until then he's still a very good offensive bottom pair d that can run a powerplay. LA Kings, Ottawa Senators... if you have cap space and a weak d-corpse you take him. Ottawa would be dumb not to, they could really use him & expansion wise the only D they need to protect is Chabot and maybe Josh Brown...

flip side is in this economy you may end up paying an additional $5-7M for what ends up being no better than a roster spot.

So Calgary got humiliated by a team they are trying to catch in the standings yesterday. The Flames find themselves at least 10 points behind teams 1, 2, and 3, in the standings and 2 points behind the habs while having played 6 more games. If the Habs play .500 in their games in hand they will be 8 points ahead of the flames.

Calgary has less than 20 games left in the season to catch up from 8 points behind. They need an incredible run on their end and they need another team to completely fall apart.

The question is, is Calgary a seller now? And who do we like from their team?

Gaudreau (retention)
Rittich (retention)

for picks, VV, and Kerfoot

Any day would be nice to acquire Taylor Hall.
I honestly don't think Hall happens anymore the way Galchenyuk has played. 1) because that likely would have been his spot; but more importantly 2) cap space. acquiring Hall even at 2m means Galchenyuk must be sent down for remainder of season until playoffs & I don't see that happening given the way he's playing.

My guess right now is between Iafallo (LAK may want to extend him though), Granlund, & Foligno (maybe Palmieri but as a plan B; he solely plays RW to my understanding)... I'd be happy with any of those 4.

Think the most likely in order is: 1) Foligno 2) Granlund 3) Iafallo 4) Palmieri. Although I'd prefer it to be: 1) Iafallo 2) Foligno 3) Palmieri 4) Granlund

Columbus is playing poorly right now coming off back-to-back losses against Detroit; think they'll become sellers after their next 2 Tampa games or at least sometime between the 4 Tampa/FLA games after that. Think it's very likely the Leafs make a push for him if other teams haven't made up their minds yet on their players.

He is a cap dump. Hasn't been good for a few years.

This is true, but he also has a pretty manageable caphit and an even lower salary.

There's definitely potential for some team to scoop him up and completely turn his career around. Give him top PP minutes and pair him with a legitimately good 5 on 5 defender, plus the kick in the butt that getting waived can be, and I could see him bouncing back.

Leafs should have very little interest though. His strengths are our strengths and his weaknesses are our weaknesses, so no real fit there.

Those are all fair points. I'm just trying to remember if there have been any (fairly recent) examples of a player being claimed off of waivers with similar money and term left on his deal? Conversely, I suppose there aren't many d-men pacing for 47 points over 82 games (career wise) to be had there to begin with. Will be interesting to follow this development.

Foligno definitely should be the target. Columbus will be on the outside looking in with no chance in catching anyone after their TB and Florida games.

Dubas should be on the phone already laying the ground work on a possible deal for when Columbus is ready to deal.

If we were to trade with a north team. Would we have to have the 7 day quarantine?

Also. We need to not worry about who we lose in expansion.

Kerfoot. Engvall. Anderson.
Holl. Dermott.
Campbell.

can only lose 1. There are better options at all positions in FA.

I heard Islanders and Leafs have kicked tires on him already; really hope Tampa thumps them tonight (& Thursday if necessary) & the Leafs get him in the coming days. Once acquiring, Chucky can stay on roster as an emergency exemption for 7 days (during Foligno's quarantine), and once it's over they will have enough cap space for his remaining pro-rated cap hit, so Chucky would never miss any time.

I'd be worried about losing Holl he's a bargain at 2m for a cap-strapped team in a foreseeable flat cap league. Campbell too at 1.65m & being the only decent goalie under contract.

ok then we protect him. And lose 1 of the forwards.

there are plenty of players coming up in FA that can do what holl does. Maybe for a little more? But if we can improve the team. None of it is worth losing sleep over.
Holl is fine. He plays well with muzz. What if dermott could do the same for 1.25?

Dubas is playing 3D chess. You can bet he is way ahead of you.
