Hell no, I'd give up a 5th to SJ so they wouldn't trade him to us
I'm too sour/bitter about Marleau not willing to move his NMC for any team but sharks and maybe kings to entertain the idea of trading for him.

It's annoying seeing he was fine ring chasing a at the deadline going to the pens but in season blocked off any attempts we could have made to move him.

Good guy I'm sure but hes washed as a player and simply his previous tenure ended on a sour note for me so would avoid targetting him.

I think this season could be a much bigger gamble, not knowing how good the team is against other top teams, and not having any games in Toronto.

Could be just throwing assets away for a mirage in the North.

That sounds like Taylor Hall music to me
Yep that's what it sounds like to me. There was a report a week or so ago that Chicago would be willing to be a team that facilitates a 3 way trade like this.

Hell no, I'd give up a 5th to SJ so they wouldn't trade him to us

I think he'd be a good veteran to have on the bench and around the room. I think he can still play. But I'd be surprised if this happened. We could do better though for sure.

True he's better than every asset in that deal, but Ekholm is also a better D (than Muzz) & they'd likely need to retain a good amount on him on an already bargain contract. If they were insistent on Sandin, which they may be given how he fits a need for them by moving Ekholm, there's no way they'd get a similar package with him being one of the 2 prospects on top of a 1st rounder. Could end up looking similar to the Mark Stone trade which I think everyone would say Vegas won by a landslide. It was Branstrom + 2nd & Branstrom would be a great comparable to Sandin.

As much as I like Sandin, the left side would be so strong that I couldn't see him cracking the lineup for the next 2 years. Sandin as a prospect in the deal could significantly lower what else is given up without salvaging our quality d prospect pool. If Nashville would really go for something like a 1st, Amirov/Liljegren & Hallander/Hirvonen/SDA for a heavily retained Ekholm then that would be the better option but I doubt that would be enough. They'd likely find a better option.

If that was the case i think at that point I'd probably look elsewhere. Especially since getting him will lead to an additional loss of another asset via expansion. I just wouldn't be comfortable giving up Sandin, especially with the Rielly contract situation being up in the air in the long term

Ideally a deal involving Amirov as the centrepiece is potentially an attractive one for them. If they're going to retool/rebuild they probably need prospects from nearly every position

Can you imagine we actually do get Hall... This forward group is just insane...

Nylander - Matthews - Marner
Hall - Tavares - Hyman
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Simmonds
Thornton - Galchenyuk - Spezza

They move Kerfoot out they could fit under the cap:
Ekholm 2.25m (40% retained)
Hall @2m (50% retained twice)
Ryan @1m (50% retained)

Ekholm @1.875m (50% retained)
Hall @2m (50% retained twice)
Haula @0.875m (50% retained)

Ekholm @2.4375m (35% retained)
Hall @2m (50% retained twice)
Boyd or Nieto @0.35m (50% retained)

If Kerfoot is involved in a Hall trade what are the odds we trade back for Boyd or Boyd @50% for 4C; he's a familiar face & no quarantine.

Edit: Hall deal would have to involve a roster player going the other way the cap just doesn't work even on TDL @2m

Hurricanes GM Don Waddell: Dougie Hamilton extension talks tabled - TSN.ca

Waddell said the Hurricanes and Dougie Hamilton’s camp have agreed to table contract discussions until after the season. Hamilton, 27, is in the final year of a six-year, $34.5 million deal signed with the Calgary Flames in 2015.

“We’ve had many talks, we talked again last weekend,” Waddell said. “You know, Dougie wants to stay here. We’ve talked to him, we love Dougie, we want him to stay here. He fits in well with our team, our coaches like him.

“I truly think Dougie wants to stay here. We’ve decided that it would be best for both us to just wait until the end of the year, let’s sit down and see if we can hammer out a deal, put it on the back-burner so Dougie can worry about playing hockey at this point.”

On whether Waddell is more aggressive or more willing to tinker with his roster at the deadline than most other managers:

“Yeah, I think so,” Waddell said. “Let’s face it, I have an owner in Tom Dundon that is very passionate about the team. He likes to be involved and know what’s going on and everything else. We won eight games in a row and he wants to know why it’s not nine games."

“He’s a driver, in a good way. It’s a challenge every day – ‘Who have you talked to? What’s going on in the hockey world?’ He wants us to be as best as we possibly can. We’re a team that spends to the cap and we’ll be at the cap for a long time. He’s committing the dollars, the resources that give us the best opportunity, so we have to make sure we’re on top of things to make our hockey team better.”

On the Hurricanes’ trade deadline wish list:

“We really like our team. A right-hand shot defenceman, I’ve got to be honest, that’s something I’ve asked around about. And then another top nine forward, potentially. Easier said than done. As you go through this, especially a shortened year, we’ve played one game with our full roster and that was opening night.

“We’re also looking at all of our positions from a depth standpoint. Is there some guys out there that we can maybe just take the money [contract]? We’re not in the business of trading too many assets, we did that last year at the deadline. Right-shot defenceman, top-nine forward, and potentially some depth – that’s what we’re looking for.”

On what it’s like trading with other general managers:

“I always joke that there’s a few guys over the years that if you called them and offered them a first-round pick for a third-round pick, they’d have to tell you that they’ll get back to you."

“You have to know what you want. Everybody is worried, we all are, about what you’re giving up. But I always say, if you’re after a player, don’t worry about what you’re giving up as much as what you’re getting. If you’re getting someone that really helps your hockey team, if everybody is on-board, just go get it done.”

The Sabres need goalies now after Carter Hutton joins Linus Ullmark among the injured – The Athletic

Since skating to the crease with the Ducks in 2016, Tokarski has led a nomadic AHL life with stops in San Diego, Lehigh Valley, Hartford, Charlotte, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Rochester. Though he hated to see Hutton go down, he was excited to finally see NHL shots.

“I’ve got to say, it was a lot of fun,” he said. “I’m excited to be a part of Buffalo and get the opportunity to play in a game.”

Depending on Adams’ moves, Tokarski could play in a lot more. The Sabres have 26 games remaining and would be hard-pressed to throw Houser to the NHL wolves for the first time.

Of Houser’s last 155 appearances, 153 have come in the ECHL. That’s two steps below the NHL, meaning the 28-year-old would face a massive challenge should he be called upon.

That leaves Luukkonen. The Amerks goalie is 5-2-1 with a .904 save percentage and 3.19 goals-against average. He’s 2-0-1 in his last three starts with a .939 save percentage.

The 22-year-old is pegged as the Sabres’ goalie of the future, but the future may be now.

In addition to the short-term questions, the Sabres have long-term queries. Ullmark and Hutton are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents. Adams signed Tokarski to a two-year deal simply to fulfill the requirements for the Seattle expansion draft this offseason.

The Sabres will have choices. The UFA list features Philipp Grubauer, Frederik Andersen, Antti Raanta, Pekka Rinne, Jonathan Bernier, James Reimer, Mike Smith, Devan Dubnyk, Brian Elliott, Tuukka Rask, Chris Driedger, Jaroslav Halak and Petr Mrazek.

But that’s for next season. The Sabres need goalies now.

And they need them badly.

One thing I like about Galchenyuk is that he's really trying. Going back to Minnesota last year he has 35 hits in 24 games which we all know isn't his game.

He also looks like a good skater out there. Not Nylander but closer to him then Tavares imo. Could be the top 6 lw we needed.

We never should have given it to him, I don't want him because he was terrible and made the team worse whenever he played

He really struggled here after that first season and I'm presuming he didn't get better as time has passed, no thank you

I don't think Dubas would do Andersen dirty like that... but...

Call me heartless if you want but if that makes the team better ship him to the Sabres, he'd only be there because he couldn't do what we needed him to do

Stop the puck or suffer the consequences

I assume this means either Andersen's not injured enough to qualify for LTIR or we're going way too hard big game hunting.

Or we are just seeing if that option is available for us and being proactive.

It's clear that Dubas wants to open up as many avenues as possible for him to be able to improve the Leafs. That doesn't mean he goes big, or finalizes on many of them, but it's better than being caught with your pants down when a really great opportunity arises and you can't do it because you were unprepared.
