Why not include Holl in a package trade for Ekholm?

Nashville gains a cheap top 4 who they can parlay and we don't have to worry about losing Holl in expansion

Why not just keep him and have the best defensive core we possibly can, and then worry about the expansion draft after what would hopefully be a Stanley Cup run?

Losing our best "RHD" in a playoff cup run seems very ungood.

He may not have much of a choice, and may choose to stay here.
Wishful thinking if you think Bogo cares that much about being a Leaf. He took a pay cut to sign here yes, but there’s no chance he accepts a pay cut AND watching from the press box.

Thing is Muzzin didn't get a prospect as good as Sandin in his trade. I think a 1st and a B prospect or two should be enough for Ekholm
True he's better than every asset in that deal, but Ekholm is also a better D (than Muzz) & they'd likely need to retain a good amount on him on an already bargain contract. If they were insistent on Sandin, which they may be given how he fits a need for them by moving Ekholm, there's no way they'd get a similar package with him being one of the 2 prospects on top of a 1st rounder. Could end up looking similar to the Mark Stone trade which I think everyone would say Vegas won by a landslide. It was Branstrom + 2nd & Branstrom would be a great comparable to Sandin.

As much as I like Sandin, the left side would be so strong that I couldn't see him cracking the lineup for the next 2 years. Sandin as a prospect in the deal could significantly lower what else is given up without salvaging our quality d prospect pool. If Nashville would really go for something like a 1st, Amirov/Liljegren & Hallander/Hirvonen/SDA for a heavily retained Ekholm then that would be the better option but I doubt that would be enough. They'd likely find a better option.

Muzzin Ekholm
Reilly Brodie
Dermott Bogosian

Next year

Muzzin Ekholm
Reilly Brodie
Dermott Liljegren
They do though.

Gonna be same song and dance. Deadline day presser. " We looked at alot of things but the deals just wernt out there. Alot of teams still think they have a shot and are keeping their own players as rentals . The flat cap and the qaurentine rules for cdn teams also played into it and the prices if we wanted to make an early deal were just too much . We like were we are at, we've got some healthy players back who can help us make a run and we think Jack and freddy are healthy and ready to battle in the playoffs"

Has anyone considered the idea that if we acquire Ekholm, a top shelf LD, that the guy going back to Nashville...or maybe out the door in another deal...would be Rielly? Would that even make sense for either team, or am I just talking through my hat?
It does make sense

Likely not, but if you have Woods, it gives you some leverage. Last thing we need is Hyman bending Dubas over.
why, if anyone's worked hard enough to earn the right to take advantage of the GM it's Hyman imo. There's no money to overpay Zack with due to the previous "bending's overs."

Imma be honest......... I'd take him to replace Veseys role. 5th round pick in 2022 or something like that.

After he forced the Leafs to move their first round pick in order to move him for cap space?

And that's on top of his play that I'm not a fan of.

No thanks at this point. He looks worse now than he did at the end of his time with the Leafs. I'd rather pick up just about anyone else on waivers.
