I’m really hoping we can get Oleksiak. Dermott than moves as the 7th dman or we use Dermott to upgrade the 3C or 2W position.

I wouldn't count on the Leafs upgrading Dermott unless he is used in a bigger trade, which will almost certainly not happen for a rental.

If they do move Dermott, they probably want a guy who can step in right away without having to turn to their depth, which means Oleksiak doesn't make sense. Oleksiak is also likely getting a Brendan Dillon-type return and I am not paying that much for a bottom pairing defenseman.

Mike Reilly makes a lot more sense. He effectively plays the same game as Dermott, he can PK, he would cost next to nothing in terms of assets, and he can PK in a pinch.

I doubt the Leafs are overly motivated to move on from Dermott though.

Why is everyone so against a Quick(retained)+Iafallo for lets say Fred+2021 second+ b prospect. We get a second line lw and a backup who we can expose later on. The way Fred is playing he is no better than Quick.
Because you can get better goalies for $700k, and you have Quick eating cap for 2.5 more seasons.

Here is his save % for this season and the previous 2.

.888
.904
.897

That's worse than Fred.

The Ekholm thing hasn't been dismissed by anybody yet. It still has legs

The Leafs are being thrown into pretty much every name on the market right now by the media. At this point, there has not been anything to suggest that we are serious players in Ekholm and it has been reported over and over, including by Dubas himself, that we are looking at rentals and forwards. Ekholm is neither.

We also do not need any kind of defenseman. Even depth only makes sense if it is cheap.

I mean CJ who is in tune as anybody said Leafs are in the mix for Ekholm, and might even be a front runner. I don't think we should completely dismiss it.

The way I see it, if Kerfoot signed for 3.5, Hyman is worth at least 5. With COVID and cap issues, perhaps he gets squeezed like Dermott did and comes in in the low 4s. Hey Zack how bout we double your salary and call it a day ??

Another one not losing any roster players:

Toronto:
Ekholm @2.8875m (23% retained)
Bobby Ryan @0.5m (50% retained)
3rd round pick 2021 (NSH)

Nashville:
Sandin
*2nd round pick 2021 (TOR) *becomes 1st round pick 2021 (TOR) if Leafs make 3rd round

Detroit:
3rd round pick 2022 (TOR)

Simmonds - Matthews - Marner
Ryan - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Engvall - Hyman
Thornton - Kerfoot - Spezza

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Ekholm - Bogosian

Campbell
Anderesen

Scratches: Dermott, Galchenyuk, Boyd, Barabanov... etc

Give up something marginal for Seattle to take Kerfoot/Dermott over Holl & we're gravy for back-to-back cups & beyond.

Edit: I checked the cap and it works if we made the deal Friday; each day earlier and Nashville would have to retain 1% or 2% more on Ekholm.

Thing is Muzzin didn't get a prospect as good as Sandin in his trade. I think a 1st and a B prospect or two should be enough for Ekholm

I don't want any rentals unless they're cheap. I'm curious as to what people think we'd have to give up for Oleksiak?

Covid has changed everything. 4x4 has been mentioned which seems reasonable, I think if anything, that's on the high end. If there's one player who would be happy to take a bit of a discount to stay here it's him so I wouldn't be surprised to see something like 5 or 6 years at 3.5.

If we moved Dermott for Oleksiak we'd need to acquire another defensemen to expose unless we decided to expose one of our top-four. His 2.14 cap hit would also hamstring us from other moves. I'd rather go after someone better or cheaper.

I think they'll give Hyman whatever term he wants and front load the hell out of the deal.

I'm expecting him to resign for a reasonable caphit. It won't be 5mil

I dunno about whatever term he wants, I don't see us signing him for 8 years, even 7 is iffy. Agree with the rest of this though.

And it seems pretty clear that we won't be resigning Freddy, so if we can get a 1B to pair with Campbell, we'll have in the range of $3 million to play with.

Friedman and Dubas somewhat contradict him though. Friedman says our interest is not that strong, and Dubas says he is looking for rental forwards.

The Leafs may have asked about him, but at that rate we have asked about pretty much everyone who is available on the market right now, so I am not sure that really means we are really in the running for Ekholm. Getting Ekholm does not jive with anything we need outside of being a really good player, who comes with a really good player cost.

Well no. Oleksiaks contract is up after this season. I think there would be a strong mutual agreement from both sides on a contract extension given that Oleksiaks from Toronto and his family still lives there. Similar to Hyman, you make the extension official after the expansion draft.

Re-sign Bogosian even if it is just as a #7.

Any moves will have to take into consideration the expansion draft.

I think Dermott goes to Seattle for like a 6th and a guarantee that they'll take Kerfoot.

We'll have to protect Tavares, Muzzin and Brodie, and running a 7-3-1 would leave Engvall, Kerfoot, Dermott and Holl exposed.

Holl is crucial, he's had a few bad outings lately but a physical RHD who can throw up 25+ points still has a year on a nice deal. He'd be an absolutely huge grab for Seattle.

I wouldn't do more but I can see it, I don't think Engvall gets it done.

They'll get a decent rental forward who can play middle six and PK, I hope Dubas doesn't do something crazy like Amirov for Hall.

I think Leafsnation should have a gofundme for Hyman. Would be funny if the League allows that.

Why not include Holl in a package trade for Ekholm?

Nashville gains a cheap top 4 who they can parlay and we don't have to worry about losing Holl in expansion

Muzzin Ekholm
Reilly Brodie
Dermott Bogosian

Next year

Muzzin Ekholm
Reilly Brodie
Dermott Liljegren
