He's far less attractive of a gamble than Galchenyuk, but Michael Amadio cleared waivers for LA recently. Same age as Brooks, similar Junior dominance, and he's played far more NHL games than Brooks.

I'd consider flipping Duszak for him and have him regain some confidence in the AHL/be a taxi squad option. I don't get the sense that the Leafs are that high on Duszak, and Amadio is a slightly better asset, but it's really just a depth swap.
Type of move that move be smart by the Leafs, wonder if L.A. would accept such.

LD Teemu Kivihalme

RD Eemeli Rasanen
RW Semyon Kizimov
RW/LW Vladislav Kara
RW Fabrice Herzog

LD James Greenway
LD Ryan O'Connell
LW/RW Vladimir Bobylev
LW/RW Nikolai Chebykin

They can take one from the top row and one from the bottom row or two from the middle. Amadio can replace Travis Boyd.

Problem is, it's a big if. Virtually never happens with deadline splashes. Way too much luck involved. Keeping your window legitimately open as long as possible is very important.

You play to win the game. This isn't a rebuilding team. This is a core built to win now in a season and divison setup which gives them the best chance at a Cup since 1967

Which is our best chance in decades (aside from Conference finals appearances).

I'd take it.

I don't think it would be wise to get carried away because this is our best chance in decades when it's likely that our chances should be more or less the same for a number of years to come.

Hyman ain’t walking

I hope not but finding the cap space for him isn't a given. It's not like we can expect to take 2 million a year or something.

I figure Dubas will have 5+3.5+2.25=10.75 to sign Hyman, a #3C and a goalie. If Hyman is happy with 5, Dubas should be golden.

I hope you're right, I don't see him wanting more than that and I think it's more likely he'll settle for less.

His age is a concern but his attitude is awesome, I could see offering more term for less money and everyone's happy.

Has anyone considered the idea that if we acquire Ekholm, a top shelf LD, that the guy going back to Nashville...or maybe out the door in another deal...would be Rielly? Would that even make sense for either team, or am I just talking through my hat?

I think we underrate Rielly on here...and I am guilty of it too but I do feel Brodie brings enough puck moving ability for a pairing of Ekholm-Brodie to be pretty damn good.

Ekholm-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Merrill-Bogosian

Solid for the playoffs.

I don't see Rielly going the other way though and Nashville likely doesn't put a high value on him, might be something you explore in the off-season if you don't think Rielly is the right guy to build around.

Makes no sense to go without our #1, who provides a more important element for us than Ekholm given we have nobody else even remotely similar to Rielly on our defense right now, for two weeks to add Ekholm.

Also, Nashville is rebuilding. They want futures. Otherwise they'd keep Ekholm.

In a post covid flat cap world we'll likely see Hyman 3.5-4.25 for 4-6 years. Last offseason saw the very comparable Toffoli come in a 4.25, a no doubt 1st liner in Dadonov settle for 5 x 3, Pietrangelo take a 23% (real dollars) ~30+% (cap percentage) discount vs his pre covid comparables in Doughty and Karlsson, and it's only going to get tighter league wide this year. Cap liquidity will be at an all time low

5M for Hyman? That's what Brodie received.... Hyman is good and he is very important to the team, but 5M is a lot. Tom Wison makes 5.1M and his contract takes to 30 years of age. Hyman will be 29 next year. So you'll be paid 5M to his mid thirties. I'm hoping for 4M, lol

Valid.
