Thanks I wasn’t really thinking we would, but I remembered there being a “cherepanov rule” written when that happened. I looked it up and it turns out we would only be entitled to compensation if Amirov hadn’t signed his ELC, which is a weird distinction imo, but nevertheless it makes it pretty black and white.
It wasn't really a Cherepanov rule or something special done for the Rangers. The rule was that if a 1st round pick doesn't sign then the drafting team gets a comp pick.

Since it wasn't explicitly defined about a player dieing the Rangers had to argue that since he died he couldn't sign and therfor they were entitled to the pick - which makes logical sense to me.

All I’m saying is the rule was amended for the situation which is true. Hence why I put it in air quotations

Logan Shaw is a pretty darn good AHL player. I wouldn't object to upgrading him to a 2 way NHL deal for this season.

BTW, players on AHL deals who come to NHL camps and even play in pre-season games, aren't they all on PTOs?
Yes any player without an NHL SPC attending camp/preseason would need to do so on a PTO.

It's okay, at the end of the day, a player + their family got some money to try to fight a tough battle.

It's just a very unfortunate set of circumstances.

Yeah agreed and I’m really not super worried about the business side we’re talking about either way. Just think the signed ELC vs hadn’t is a weird distinction to make in whether draft pick compensation is awarded.

It's far fetched but I hope they are at leat keeping an eye on what Kane plans on doing.

If he is going to be at full health in December and is taking a low AAV deal, you would imagine playing with Matthews would be one of his preferred destinations. Whether you think they need him or not, getting a player at that level without having to give up assets would be better than anything they could do at the deadline.

If he could come back healthy and productive he'd be an interesting piece. Could move Domi to 3c and try to create 3 scoring lines.

Neat to hear of Peter Holland's PTO with Colorado. Hasn't played in the NHL for about a handful of years and yet he is still just 32.
"Playing in Toronto was the pinnacle of what seemed to be this path that my hockey career was always destined towards,” Holland said during a recent interview. “I kept playing because it was financially rewarding and something I could fall back on as a safety net. But it wasn’t something that I was overly enjoying anymore.”"

He might be looking for a safety net. Maybe he invested all his money in Bitcoin? Bitcoin value has gone down about 40% since April 2022 when he reportedly got attached to it

Draisaitl is NOT the second best player in the world. The second best player in the world needs to be good at even strength and at least average defensively.
He's not good defensively but he has 60 even strength goals in the past two years

Maybe the future highest paid player in the NHL should start potting PP goals with the other 30 million dollars of FW he has

Basically Holland admitted to not enjoying hockey as a career and jumped feet first into Bitcoin in 2022. Now... He's trying to make an NHL come back. Sounds like a less talented Daigle.

I like his cameo appearances on TSN radio. Definitely has potential as a radio guy, but I dunno if making radio guy money is appealing if you can grind out another couple years in the NHL.

I see him in radio or tv like Corrado. He's well spoken, been around few teams to know the inner workings of NHL

Very unlikely considering the website you linked.

In adddition to that Eklund-esque website, the proposed trade is horrendous.

This is one of the worst trade proposals I've seen.

I think it needs to be simplified. Liljegren being involved doesn't make sense.

Vatrano + Vaakanainen

for

Brodie + Robertson

Gain 500K in cap space going from Brodie to Vat and Vaak, which should be enough extra to protect McMann from waivers. This improves the team from a 20 man (11F-7D) to a 22 man (13F-7D) roster construction.

It's a LW + LHD for LW + LHD swap. It likely means Domi is a center to start.

Anaheim can flip Brodie easier at the deadline and get the better young asset with Robertson.

Probably nothing happens, but with that Benoit signing we're projected to have a LD depth chart of

Benoit (SPC)
Lagesson (SPC)
Lajoie (SPC)
Rifai (ELC)
Kokkonen (ELC)
Farrance (AHL)
Tychonick (AHL)

outside the NHL

I won't say "somethings gotta give", but one wouldn't be surprised if something did.

Elias Pettersson is stating he won't re-sign there unless the team has success per Friedman.

I wonder if we could do a sign and trade at the end of the year, Nylander at 9-10M per, Timmins and Robertson for the rights to Pettersson, maybe re-sign 8 years 9M per.

He was high on our list in his draft year. How much better could the Canucks do than that package if they were trading him?

Obviously the snag is sign and trade with Nylander but I wonder if a team satisfies his contract asks then he will just roll with it?
