I wouldn't call Motte and ZAR mediocre. They are tenacious forecheckers who bring physicality. They are perfect 4th liners. Simmonds and Clifford are pretty much done as players unless they are 13th forwards.
The 2nd line LW will likely come at the deadline

What's the deal with Sprong? Never here about him. As long as we are bargain bin shopping couldn't he score 20 goals as LW2 for less than a milly?

That really got tangled up. I was implying that Kerfoot is most likely to go to get under the cap, and that we don't have the money to add Henrique without taking from the D - in this case making us less playoff ready.

I dont know much about Henrique, perhaps he is better than Kerfoot, as a separate topic.

Swapping Muzzin for Henrique is essentially cap neutral. Adding Kerfoot just opens up an additional 3.3M.

Wouldn't be against him, but Robertson is a better option for a similar role.

You know who would be a good addition, Ryan Pullock. Now I don’t see a reason for the Islanders to move him, but inserting him, signing Sandin and moving Holl and Muzzin might be positive moves for us.

Pelech and Pulock are their top pairing, and are both signed long-term on very good contracts.

Would love to have either (or both!), but it isn't at all likely.

I like the idea of both Motte and Zar, but what would your lineup look up? I don't know if the Leafs envision Jankrok playing center or wing. I have a feeling the 2nd line winger will be a placeholder until the TDL as well, someone like Robertson or cheap UFA signing.

I don't think we need to worry about roster spots for guys at the bottom of the line-up. Competition and depth should be a priority.

Part of me thinks: Go all in or take a step back and retool.

But the Go All In part of me is scared given the goalie, defense and depth situation; imagine paying the world to get Kane and then still crap in the 1st round

A lot of the other contenders have used their 1sts etc.

Kane and Matthews have wanted to play together for a few years.

You only add Kane in the event the goaltending etc all looks to be holding up.

I doubt we are an "all in" team until we know what our goaltending situation is.

To do so right now would be premature and a potential waste of significant assets.

I am much more inclined to keep our top prospects, get more assets for Kerfoot and/or Holl, and see where Knies and Robertson land. I think 2LW has to be Robertson's ball to run with, with Milano brought in on a cheap UFA deal and Kerfoot challenging for it as well.

He shouldn't be in any trade IMO.

We have plenty of decent prospects to trade otherwise but especially with the cap the trades should be more 1 for 1s with money in and money out and for positional needs. There's a ton of teams near the cap.

At the deadline this year I could see a bigger trade when it's easier with the cap.
