giordano-take your pick. I'd go with sandin right side experiment here until gio gets out his way.

If that's what people are crying about you need a break from this place. That is a sick D-core if they made all the moves necessary to make it real.
The least skilled D in that group is Brodie for christs sake the puck will live in the o-zone like Colorado. Go all in on our identity of elite skill transition and offence instead of half skill half bandaid players to cover flaws (not half but boosh so high against tampa was nonsense and holl needs to go).

The cost for Chychurn is huge, otherwise he would have been moved already. We can't afford to trade Nylander so we'd pay in firsts and prospects. Who here feels like giving up
2023 1st + 2024 1st + Robertson + Hirvonen ? Cause thats probably what the ask is if we take knies off the table.

I made a huge mistake there penciling in a Sandin experiment. Might need to keep Holl. Sandin goes the other way if we got Jakob.

I don't advocate ditching physicality completely but I do advocate avoiding bandaids and embracing an identity of what we can actually be elite in. The age of Chych and Lil allows us to bide our time until we can add someone physical worth adding.

I've been advocating for Chychrun for awhile now. He's a legit #2 defenseman locked in to a great deal for the next 3 years. Muzzin, Brodie, and Giordano are all off the cap in the next 2 years which gives us plenty of money to both resign Liljegren and extend both Matthews, and when it's time to resign Chychrun, you have Tavares coming off the books as well. Having a Rielly, Chychrun, Liljegren set up long term would really go a long way of solidifying our defense and fill in as needed.

To Toronto-
Chychrun
Hayton

To Arizona-
Nylander
Holl

With the cap savings, there's still some room to look to improve our top 6. Also still having Kerfoot, Sandin, and draft picks as trade chips.

Rielly-Chychrun
Muzzin-Brodie
Giordano-Liljegren

Muzzin and Brodie become your tough matchup pairing, allowing for Rielly and Chychrun to feast on lesser pairings.

We'd also have to send Muzzin

Because we don't have the space without getting rid of him

Where’s the scoring going to come from? Why do you guys think there’s anyone in the organization that can replace nylanders scoring we do that and we are even worse then we were before and force to reconstruct our style of play as well which means another first round of exit

If you want Chychrun Arizona are definitely going to want Knies as part of a package along with picks, Robertson or Neimela and most likely one of Sandin or Liljegren

They don't have to trade him so they won't give him up for anything less than a haul

That's to rich for my blood but that's what I think it's going to take

Maybe Arizona can throw in Cooley?

Cooley is about as untouchable to Arizona as Matthews and Marner are to the Leafs. Cooley is going to be an absolute stud of a player, and believe it or not, I can definitely see Arizona having a pretty strong team within the next couple of years if their prospects pan out to what they're capable of.

All they need do is get more money from the league to stay in business.

Bettman's joke.

not to mention you just can't forego the cap efficiency that comes from contributing players during their ELC years. We wont' have any depth at all if we trade a package of Robertson, Lilly or Sandin, and Neimela or Knies. I can't see that deal happening.

When does training camp start? Man this has been a very dry hockey summer

Usually there are so many flueries or trades. Doesn't seem like much this year

Free agency was delayed a few weeks and we have the delayed summer WJC tournament.

It does feel a little dry, but kinda throws into relief the usual summer; Sportscentre airing news of the trade of some nobody for future considerations, after the scores from 18 MLB games.

It all butterflies out from Covid - Covid led to the stoppage, which led to the escrow, which led to the flat cap, which led to limited mobility for trades, which led to some guys taking the safer route, and on and on.

I’ve said before the league should have something in the summer to keep eyes on the game - a summer league, a bi-annual tournament or hell even the mid season snorefest known as the All Star Game.

They could even do a graduated free agency thing, where suppose on 7/1 all the first time UFAs can sign, then 7/15-7/22 have a buyout window, then after that the 30+ guys can sign, or something.

Come 2024-25, it's my expectations that our D core is going to be Rielly, Sandin, Liljegren and possibly Niemala. Brodie will be 34... don't know if he gets resigned.

I look at this list, and wonder, who do I want long-term to potentially add to this? I'm not denying Chychrun might grow into a pretty good D guy.. but I look at this list, and think we need a physical D man to round this group out, more than we need a Chychrun.

If we are adding a Chychrun, I think it could be, because we move on from Mo Rielly. I don't see that happening to be honest, but it wouldn't be a bad deal for us. Save on Cap, get younger.. but like I said, I don't see that happening.

Do you not watch the Bro beauty league to get you by?

In a perfect world we're looking at something like:

Sandin-Liljegren
Rielly-X
Kokkonen-Niemela

Where the UFA options for X are Roy (29), Pesce (29), Brodie (34), Demelo (31) and maybe Tanev (34).

Love seeing that pesce name.. this offseason in particular is going to be a tight one.. but they have to spend on a 5 million or more dman as the group will be incredibly young

I dont think we would be able to afford the likes of the free agents that would fit best imo

61.5 estimated to be tied up in 8 players
31.5 for tavares/marner/jarnkrok/rielly
30 or so for matthews nylander sandin liljegren

How about a short prospects league?

Do a draft from your division, with an age limit and number of NHL games played.

Run it through August.
Frees them up for training camp.

Yeah, substitute “Logan Cooley” with “Barrett Hayton” and you have a nice rinse and repeat history of the Arizona Coyotes rebuilding. We shall see, but if there’s a franchise that doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt, it’s them.

Wonder if that might be too much hockey on the calendar and west and tear on the athletes?

I considered that.

It would have to be voluntary, and my guess it would be players who want to get a leg up on others.

12 games tops, and limit the travel.

Toronto, Boston, Detroit, New York, Montreal, Chicago, Ottawa.

I would think turnout would be strong as you say for ones wanting a leg up
