Coyotes are asking for the moon for Chychurn or a deal would have already been done. If we're going to throw a bunch of assets at a defender I'd be looking at Noah dobson.

OP threw in Knies to get him. That immediately makes the trade short sighted.

We need a physical power forward top 6 LW more than a staple LHD.

We have Rielly and Sandin who factor to be our top 4 LHD. I still believe Sandin will be better than Jakob.

Chych if he was RHD would be significantly more appealing , but even then I wouldn’t be moving Knies to get him..

considering all our ex players got major deals .. id say this is a good selling point for dubas

I can't see how anyone could argue that this team wouldn't be better with a booming shot from the blueline (especially on the PP).

I also don't understand the people that think Chychrun is the answer to that. A RHD Chychrun I'd love to have, though. But not at the prices people are throwng around here. Chychrun is not prime-Pronger.

First, I have no idea how "The Masters" quote ended up there, and at the current time, can't figure out how to remove it.

Anyway, just a note, Chychrun is a LHD, but primarily plays RD.

Just my opinion, but if we are searching for a D man, to replace Muzzin in the lineup... I'd start with this list perhaps.

A guy like Tanev too. Are either of them available? Probably not... but hey...

Could the Dallas Stars or Arizona Coyotes be targeting Montreal Canadiens goalie Jake Allen on the NHL trade market?

An NHL source told Montreal Hockey Now that both teams have inquired about acquiring the Canadiens goalie on the NHL trade market before and opined that it could make a ton of sense for both the Coyotes and the Stars to do so once Carey Price’s situation becomes clearer.

“Hearing Jake Allen More. Stars Or Coyotes Make Sense. Both teams have looked into him in the past, I know that,” the source told MHN late Wednesday afternoon. “Depending on what happens with Price, it could make a lot of sense for them and the Canadiens. Let’s say Carey’s good to go or close to by the time the season starts. Then, what if [Jake] Oettinger hasn’t been signed by then or he’s holding out during camp, are you taking the chance on Scott Wedgewood and a call-up as your goalies to start the season if you think you’re a contender this year?”

Obviously, the Coyotes have no aspirations to be a playoff contender this coming season but right now, they only have 26-year-old goalie Karel Vejmelka on their roster.

“The Yotes need another goalie and honestly they want to be as competitive as they can to create and keep buzz around them,” the source pointed out.

The Coyotes also have tons of cap space as they’re currently $20.3 million under the $82.5 million salary cap for the 2022-23 NHL regular season. According to this same source, the Coyotes have been very active in NHL trade talks this offseason. The obvious reason is defenceman Jakob Chychrun but they’re looking to acquire ‘quality players’ not just salary, picks and prospects.

As for the Stars, they have $10.3 million in cap space and even if they sign Oettinger, they could afford to acquire Jake Allen and the final season of his two-year contract that carries a $2.8 million cap hit.

Based on a recent interview with the Canadiens, Allen will be healthy and ready to go for the start of the season.

Sure.. but we all know he's been available for some time, and Leafs fans love big name players, and making big splashes.
I mean...yea for sure...so we fell for his trap

I also think Jakob is great...I wanted him but I dont think we go nuts and go for him. Frankly think in the long run Sandin is prolly better.

Chychrun played the right side a lot last season. The Coyotes regularly rotated Moser, Dineen and Capiobanco. Chychrun mostly was paired with these guys playing the right side. Moser eventually became a mainstay. He played games with Lyubushkin before he was moved to Toronto and then became strictly right side with Kolyachonok and whoever else.

As for the PP he played the second unit and played most of it on the right side from the blue line to the circles looking for the one timer. Not a typical PP quarterback but instead tried to become a main scoring option. Didn't work out too well though.

And did someone call him a poor man's Barrie in here?? Come on.

If Muzzin could be moved then he should be tops on the list. But Nylander or Knies is not the starting point. Just because the Coyote fans are saying Nylander ++ doesn't mean they'll get it or that it's even that high.

I dont think he played the right as much as is being represented

With boosh 286 mins
Stralman 193 mins
Moser 16 mins
Dineen 2 mins
Capbianco 82 mins

Well there has to be something wrong with your stats because I remember specifically 2 full games paired with Dineen. I remember feeling bad for Chychrun having to carry this guy night in and night out. Stralman was early in the season. Lyubushkin was before he got injured and then when he came back they were reunited. Lyubushkin was traded and Chychrun was kept on the right side.

I just did natural stat trick
Defence pairings - arizona and 5on5 minutes

Dineen looks to have played most of his minutes with stralman and boosh

I'm not going to argue because stats are facts but I know what I watched. My point is he's played a fair amount on the right side. He's done well. He could easily play it here. And he's a damn good player on both sides of the puck. Can skate and is tough. So as a Muzzin replacement or eventually Brodie, I'd have no problem having him as our #2.

Oh no doubt there he is on his way to being a fantastic two way defenceman

I just dont think the pieces it would take will be paid by this management

I should day he already is a very good player.. by fantastic i mean upper group in the league as he matures

Why were you wasting watching the coyotes their owner probably barely watches the coyotes

It wasn't wasting time at all. Games are on after the Leafs for the most part. Some overlap. I'm a Kessel fan. People were mentioning Lyubushkin before last season started as a possible trade target so that interested me. Have been a Crouse fan since the World Juniors he played in. Became a Chychrun fan the more I saw him. Schmaltz is sneaky good. My cousin lives in Scottsdale and I've been trying to get away from work and go down there to watch a game or 2 with him for the last 3 years. I watch them and discuss things with him. Just because they're terrible doesn't mean it's a waste of time.

I'm a hockey fan. I watch Pittsburgh and Colorado too. I like to watch the Nova Scotia boys.

Ah nice seems like a fun way to spend time in that case. Hopefully Kessel ends up on a more entertaining team this year

TOR would be a few surprising moves away from adding a notable defenseman - they wouldn't just add one to their current mix. They don't have the cap and it's overkill on something that isn't even a huge need.

If they ended up being in on Chychrun, Muzzin waived his NMC and Sandin is part of the trade.

Rielly, Chychrun, Gio down the left; Brodie, Liljegren, Holl down the right. Mete as the extra
Rielly - Brodie
Chychrun - Liljegren
Giordano - Holl

Would be real solid.

Siegenthaler has been a target of mine for a while, unfortunately now that he's signed an extension for another very reasonable (even cheap) deal with the Devils I doubt he's available.

He’d be great, but as you say, likely made himself too valuable to the Devils.

Chychrun was tied for 3rd in power play goals for defenceman in 2020 and tied for second in 2021. Probably contends for 1st all season long as a Leaf on our PP1 but keep telling us your wisdom.

I can get passing on Jakob as personal option but to not understand why people want a big shot dman that most likely leads the NHL in pp goals for D here is more whack than offering sandin and knies for him. It's one of the easiest things to understand

You would need to drastically change the dynamic of the unit and I would not be surprised if it actually scores less.

No, we would not need to drastically change the dynamic of the unit. We have 4 of the best forwards in the league who will seamlessly be able to work with him.

It's like trying to talk to thick headed anti-nylander people when it comes to jakob on this board

You’re advocating trading for a defenseman because of his PP abilities and paying the price of a top pairing stud.

The marginal PP upgrade isn’t worth the cost.

No that's not at all what I am advocating I am pointing out faulty logic that makes zero sense for why we don't need him. Jakob isn't just a PP specialist he makes us the most deadly 5v5 team in the league with elite top 6 and elite transition With Rielly pairing 1, Jakob pairing 2 one-two punch.

Weird trying to convince posters to add a dman who most would agree will contend for most goals by a dman by the end of the season as a Leaf.

Stop trying to micro manage every single factor of him becoming a Leaf and focus on having the best top 6 and best top 4 transition defence in the league if you add him. Or do you guys want skill-less scrubs instead

rielly-lil
chych-brodie
giordano-take your pick. I'd go with sandin right side experiment here until gio gets out his way.

If that's what people are crying about you need a break from this place. That is a sick D-core if they made all the moves necessary to make it real.
