A massive need for this team is a booming shot from the point. Some playoff rounds could have been won if we had one.

Chychrun is top tier option for this need plus can play a high skill transition game. Not having a Makar can be offset by being able to deploy Rielly and Chych on different pairings over and over all game. Not the usual bandaid or "if x then y" fixes we deploy season to season for needs not met from our core alone.

The Nylander name drop is definitely for clicks. It is most likely centered around Sandin++.

Definitely have to do it if it's for Sandin.

Arizona would surely ask for local boy Knies to be included along with Sandin, which would hurt. Then add in the fact that we'd need to move Muzzin to open up the cap room and a spot for Chych and then you're really paying an iron price for a somewhat limited defenseman (as great as his contract is).

Although on the plus side, this would make us cap compliant without having to give away Kerfoot, and we'd even be able to carry an extra skater.

He had ONE PPG this year. ONE.

I think it would benefit the leafs more to have a rival pay the price for chychrun than what he himself would bring to the team, a team with reilly, brodie, liljegren, and hopefully niemela.

I like the player. Like the contract. But not at the cost of Nylander+ or probably any other package Arizona would take based on the rumoured asks

Noting... some Arizona fans are suggesting he primarily plays on the Right Side for them... Is this correct? I mean, if he plays on the Right side, that does open up some possibilities.

It's not just the rumoured asks, but that he hasn't been moved, though clearly being shopped. Arizona must be asking for the moon. Some Arizona fans are suggesting that he plays the right side for them... and I'm not sure if that's true... if it is.. it does open up some interesting possibilities.

I think he plays both i remember him with stralman or boosh

Good. Last chance to get him cheaper.

Going to pretend youre not being serious writing off a 23 year old because of one bad season in Arizona.

Edit: I also never specified it has to be on the powerplay. We send a lot of pucks to the point at ES you know.

Well Sandin + knies is over kill. All i am certain is it can't be Nylander . If it's centered around sandin and no Knies, I'm in.

I think he could help our offense, but not at the cost of Nylander, that much is for certain. People talk about needing him for his PP shot... he had ONE PP goal last year. He's had 17 PP goals in his career.

Sure, that's an improvement over Morgan's 12 over that time period... but not that much of an improvement.

The main takeaway for Chychrun should be this... he's been on the market for about a year now. He hasn't moved. Arizona is asking for way too much for him. On the Trade board, people are saying Nylander isn't enough.. would have to add Sandin and a 1st... I mean, are you serious? LOL

I just don't see him as a need at all for the Leafs.

He's not taking Rielly spot on the 1st pp unit after they just signed him to a 8 year extension. And the team already has too many LHD already (one of the deepest positions on the roster).

And he's going to cost a small fortune to acquire to being with.

A comparable for Chychurn at the same age would be dougie Hamilton. Good player but not someone you overpay for.

Marner had 0 two seasons ago , guess he should have retired.
Lmao well damn if we are being fair and objective, you got them there.

Jakob in Toronto is not the same as Jakob in Arizona. Really disrespecting our boys if you think otherwise. We will show Arizona what that skill set was meant to do especially in the playoffs when we need a guy to skate across the line and just bury that Nylander spin back pass to ice the game or break the tie.

Time to strike is now since you can show Arizona all the bad stats he put up last season and Sandin is giving us a reason to use him as a trade chip. Arizona can easily give him his Boqvist deal.

They should learn by now they're not getting a kings ransom for Jakob like they thought they could and obviously we walk from the deal if they still won't budge and expect our whole farm in addition to Sandin.

Obviously nobody is saying Chychrun should retire. There likely would have been some similar pushback on the idea of acquiring Marner specifically for his PP goal scoring.
If you guys are talking about PP then my bad but I didn't see any mention of PP where I jumped in just that we could use a big shot on the back.

Noting, he apparently plays RD primarily.

If Leafs are going to move major assets, they need a young version of Jake Muzzin who shoots right. Not a young poor man's version of Tyson Barrie who shoots left.

Wait are you guys talking to me about PP? I've mentioned the powerplay zero times
You must be new to how things work around here. Be prepared to be reading how silly your proposal of Chychrun fixing our PP is, for the next 4 days.

A chychurn trade with Nylander involved is a terrible idea. With that being said if we did that deal we would need a second trade to aquire a solid top 6 winger.

Toronto's main need is a defenseman with a shot from the PP to have teams lay off Matthews and Marner a bit in the playoffs on the PP. I believe a lack of scoring threat from the point is what's caused the powerplay to be ineffective. Until they can get a player like that, the opposition has the recipe for containing our PP.

The #1 PP in the NHL last year? Has a few off games, and the wonderful solution is a guy who scored 1 PPG last year?
