Dallas got a great bargain on AAV but years puts him in a great situation for his next deal.
Robertson will have all the leverage when negotiating his 3rd deal right when the cap will have taken a huge jump.

If Dallas doesn’t give him whatever he asks for all he has to do is accept his 9.3m QO and he will be a free agent at the youngest point possible for him based on when he broke on to the league.

His leverage comes more from him being arb eligible then the QO

I'm pretty sure you can offer a multi year deal at the QO and retain the rights( could be wrong however)

He has some leverage but it's a better deal then walking him to free agency

No you can’t offer a multi year QO. You actually have it backwards.
If Robertson elects for arbitration the club can then ask for a 2 year deal.
If the team elects for arbitration Robertson could ask for a 2 year deal but likely wouldn’t in that scenario.

Well good for him in that case didn't know that. Although I think at that point I'd rather take my chances with the arb case then take the 9.3 especially if the cap raises

If it plays out like it did with Tkachuk and him having a decent QO and 1 year till UFA the club will probably file for arbitration.
Why they did that is it stopped Tkachuk from just accepting his QO and gave them time to try to try to work out a long term deal before the arb hearing.

Robertson only needs to increase his peak season goalscoring by a tiny 50% to tie Matthews assuming Matthews stagnates from here on out.
Exactly lol.

I mean it hadn't been done since 2011-2012 until Matthews last year so obviously Robertson will hit it next season forsure.

Hollsy out at practice ?

Common trades!!!!

Let the Toronto Weegar era begin!!!!!! :)

Nah... we don't need that type of cap hit going forward. It's a good contract for sure, but I think we need to look elsewhere.

Depending on how the season goes for our potential LW guys... Robertson, Knies and Amirov... if it looks good for all three, I'd consider Knies and a 2nd (2024) to Minnesota for Faber and O'Rourke.

I would honestly look at moving Robertson before I move Knies.

Knies is the prospect I am most excited about, followed by Topi and Roni. Would hate to part with any of them, really.

I would be more open to moving a roster player and our 1st for a legit Top 4 RHD.

I get what you are saying... I was playing with some numbers in CapFriendly... I had originally put in Knies, then deleted it... went to put in Robertson, and then thought to myself... I don't think Minnesota would do that... I think they'd only do Knies... which is a big price to pay, but I think Faber is a top 4 RHD in a couple of years, and O'Rourke is pretty good as well, and very physical as a LHD... If Topi works out as well... it gives us a core D for a very long time, all pretty cost controlled, at least at first.

This of course is based on Robertson and Amirov looking very good for us too... so it's a bunch of what if's.

Assumes Muzzin is LTIR, or traded after this year... and we sign either Bunting, or Kane in the $5 mil range as a UFA.

Robertson contract is a steal for sure. Kid is awesome. He should fire his agent.

I think for a 4 year deal it’s roughly in line with where it should be. After the disasters that are the Benn and Seguin contracts, and the owners public comments against big money second contracts, Robertson was never getting a deal bigger than this out of Dallas. So unless he was prepared to hold out into the season, I don’t think his agent could have done much.
