Hopefully he gets claimed elsewhere, and continues his career. He likely will succeed elsewhere, and as @SeaOfBlue suggests, a number of posters will freak out about it. It just didn't work here... so move on, next, we have plenty of guys who want an opportunity...

It would allow us to sign Petruzzelli as well, and have another goalie option.

Are they burying that contract/cap hit to prepare to get a replacement for Jake?

I don't think that's of concern. We'd move a body out, if we make a trade for a D man anyway.

Guys hear me out.

Me and my buddy where talking about how the 3rd line last game (Jarnkrok Holmberg-Willy) finally had an identity being an all Swede line and played pretty good with Holmberg getting his feet wet at C.
.. It's very much true that players play better knowing their role/Identity and players typically play with more heart when they feel are representing their country. Why not try 3 nationality lines and build healthy line up competition.

If we can grab Kane and some how able to afford him, what would be your 3 lines being US-CAN-SWE?

Example:
How do you think a make up of these lines will look playing together.

Robertson/Knies - Matthews - Kane. US
(_____) /Bunting - Tavares - Marner. CAN
Engvall/Jarnkrok - Holmberg - Willy. SWE

Any combination of shutdown/checking line as your 4th:
ZAR - Kampf - Malgin (Simmonds/NAK/Gaudette)

You have Identity, Healthy competition and skill and responsibility spread out. I don't see how these lines can't grow insane chemistry over time.

Line that's been playing with the best goals for/goals against consistently gets the most icetime.

As someone who was excited about NAK, he wasn't a factor. Be nice if someone takes him and get a contract slot. Also if two players will bring the same low impact, you may as well have someone who brings other intangibles which is Simmonds so I'm fine with this.

NAK a 4th liner. Not a huge deal here. If he's claimed ... contract spot. If he isn't... then you can bring him up and down from Marlies for a while if needs be. The 4th line has been in a blender all season.

I'm worried about the top guys producing and giving a shit. Not some 4th liner who so far has done nothing.

I don't care about last year either. I care about this year.

We need to move a body out of the lineup, it's NAK who was chosen, to bring Lilly up.

You think somehow, having lines with the same nationality gives identity?

hmm... I don't see it.

I'd definitely pass on Karlsson. His resurgence might allow San Jose to dump that contract onto someone though.

His numbers on that 11.5 AAV deal so far.

A good 13 games doesn't undo a bad 158 and there's another four years to go.
San Jose is also just such a bad team right now... he could certainly be utilized on the right team playing in the correct role.

If Muzzin wasn't made of glass, they'd be a great pair, thought the same thing about Klingberg.

Willy wasn’t on that line nor does he need to be kerfoot just needs to come off the line really or switch Willy with marner

They will very likely look for one regardless but I think the quality will vary. I wouldn't be surprised if they look at packaging Sandin, or maybe even Holl, for a locked up experienced defenseman that will solidify the top 4.

It's more likely they just keep everyone, add a pending UFA rental, and go for it.... again.

I wouldn't mind packaging Sandin for somebody in the top 4 with some term

I've got some doubts about his ceiling and if we're trying to win now we may as well lean into it

Holl can be the #6D and PK, he's bad for my blood pressure further up the lineup

Pretty much need kind of a steady RHD who can throw the body around.

A more physical version of Brodie is exactly what they need. Just need to figure out who that will be.

American Thanksgiving is the time to watch. Once we hit that, it'll become clearer which teams may not make the playoffs and likely switch to becoming sellers.

Holmberg played with Jarn and Engvall/Malgin primarily last game. I dont think he spent any actual shifts with Willy

Where is the Bo Horvat thing coming from?
Pierre McGuire apparently (not sure if legit...).

I've been thinking of 2 possible "core shakeup" trades lately, one which was Horvat:

Marner for Horvat+ (would love a dman, but their dmen suck...)

Marner + Kerfoot for Tarasenko + O'Reilly (cap nearly even, shakes up both teams)

It's hard to say we win either of these trades as Marner is probably the best player in both, but I think our core needs a shakeup.

St Louis says no.

I don't think the Leafs need to go big game hunting ideally they can find a second pairing RHD who is safe minute munching type. The left side looks pretty good with Rielly, Sandin and Gio.

Thinking outside the box for a moment, but if the Ottawa Senators latest build doesn't go anywhere, I would be interested in Artem Zub, who is at $2.5 million and a UFA. I'd probably re-sign him.

I'd also be willing to take this year and next year's Nikita Zaitsev money at 50% retained if we need to find a creative way to keep the acquisition cost down. He makes $4.5 million each year in real money, so I'm sure Ottawa wouldn't mind saving on that.

Sandin Brodie
