I pray the solution isn't another LHD.

If we are actually looking long term, and Sandin is not that guy, we arguably need a LD more than a RD.

Kral, Kokkonen, and Koster are likely nothing more than good bottom pairing defensemen if they make the NHL... Which is fine because a Gio replacement is the most pressing need on that side right now anyways.

At RD, Niemela, Liljegren, and even Villeneuve have more top 4 upside than anyone we have at LD right now.

Maybe Sandin could sub in for Gio for 5-6 shifts a night so it's something like

Rielly: 24:00
Brodie: 24:00
Liljegren: 22:00
Giordano: 18:00
Sandin: :18:00
Holl: 14:00

I really think Liljegren can be an elite top 4 d-man this year.
Or juss play sandman with lily and let gio be old muzzin for holl

According to CJ, Dubas made NAK available for a depth swap

Yeah, the dude hasn't brought anything to the table.

We need a Scott Lawton type player in our bottom six, I feel. And with the feistiness shown by Konecny, I would love to have him on our team as well if there is a deal to be made with the Flyers.

I missed a few of the games early in the season and those were ones that involved NAK. Has he truly been so bad in 6 games that the team has already given up on him, whether constant scratching and even shopping him?

Seems a little weird for a recent FA signing coming off a Cup and how little to no rope he's been given. Not a great look for future prospective FAs.

I'd be a fan of it, partly because EK is one of my favorite players. If we traded Rielly and got EK retained down to what Rielly makes, I'd like it.

If Muzzin is gone, I don't really see an option that isn't trading for Connor Murphy as this point.
I'd do it. Both aren't great defensively but EK65 is one of the best offensive defenseman in the world. Has a great shot, too

Problem is our left side becomes awful at that point. You can put Brodie on LD I guess.

Brodie - Karlsson
XXX - Liljergen
Giordano - XXX

I guess Sandin takes one of those available spots, but we really need some physicality on the blueline to make it more well-rounded

Exactly. If it's between two plugs, I'd rather have the plug that can physically intimidate or at least play a feisty game. Always like that about Konecny. Too bad we gambled on that trade-down - Konecny was the guy I wanted in that draft and was very excited we were about to draft him.

I would not be surprised if he initiated it more than the Leafs. He wants to play and he is not getting much of a chance to play. When the team wants toughness, they turn to Simmonds and Clifford. When they want a hitter, they typically choose ZAR because he has PK experience and has at least performed well on the PK. NAK throws a ton of hits and he is probably going to be better than he has shown through 6 games thus far (at least defensively), but there are a lot of bodies up front right now and he is struggling to really differentiate himself from them.

I don't think the Leafs are overly motivated to move him right now unless they get a pick or a defensive depth guy in return. Eventually Dubas will likely do him a favour, but for now he still has value as a depth guy and we do not exactly need to move him.

I'd definitely pass on Karlsson. His resurgence might allow San Jose to dump that contract onto someone though.

His numbers on that 11.5 AAV deal so far.

A good 13 games doesn't undo a bad 158 and there's another four years to go.

No point really, might as well just waive him and hope he clears to have NHL depth

Except you'd be working with him, to find a destination he's happy with, instead of whomever claims him... it's good working with players...

You'd have to get him on with retention if you do it, full price is obviously a no-go

Colorado might work out. Not sure for what and whom, but I'd even take back future considerations at this point to free up a contract spot.

They do not have any defensemen really worth taking, but Kaut or Maltsev up front may be interesting. Both passed through waivers and are fairly young. Kaut, of course, was a former teens pick so he has upside. I wouldn't trade Kaut personally, but Maltsev has been sort of Anderson-like in their organization and they may want to give him a change of scenery.

Of course, worst case we could just ask for their 7th this year and call it a day. Not a high price for COL to get a familiar guy who should upgrade their 4th line.

People suggesting Karlsson is definitely…something

He probably has 1 season in him, maybe? Poo defensively. Definitely not who this team should be targeting

The other thing potential thing we could do is a 2-for-1 similar to the DiPietro + Myrenberg for Studnicka trade (although the Leafs may want to make it two contracted guys so we can open up a contract spot), which could be something that works with a guy like Kaut if the prospect we include is enticing enough.

Or we could do another Ashton/Broll trade with NAK + Gogolev just to open up some contract spots.
