Eh, while I think the team could potentially use a Schenn type guy, I wouldn't want him getting that prime icetime. I don't think Schenn has the hockey IQ that Hainsey had, especially when it comes to making quick passes

I'd rather play Liljegren with Mo when he gets back and trade bugger all for Eathan Bear who can float between the Marlies and Leafs like Mete

I think we have Schenn type when Benn gets fit again

If your getting Zach Weresnki and all your giving up is Knies + Sandin + 1st that's a no brainer

Werenski makes to much but pretending that he doesn't bring back a prospect much better than Knies is absurd

Werenski is elite. Top 15D already and a fantastic shooter. Untouchable for the Jackets

it what world can any cap strapped team fit a 9.5 mil dman signed for 5+ years ?
also, how is that a no brainer ? sandin and knies are impact players making a combined under 3 mil for the next 2 years.

Is Marner better? Same number of goals. Yes, he had 16 more assists playing on the top line with the best scorer in the league, while Nylander had to deal with JT, who managed 33 fewer goals.

Regardless, Provorov isn't worth either one.

Playoffs are more important than regular season.

I would love another big scoring winger in the top 9. For the money of Engvall+Murray we could have had Mason Marchment (PPG right now) + Charlie Lindgren (.923 save %) to back up Samsonov.

Marchment----Matthews-----Marner

Robertson-----Kerfoot------Nylander

Bunting-------Tavares-----Jarnkrok

Aston-Reese---Kampf---Aube-Kubel

What do Canes want for Ethan Bear? I think he would be a good addition. A 3rd round pick? Prospect like Filip Kral? No need to retain

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on tonight’s 32 Thoughts segment of Hockey Night in Canada, a decision on Bear could be coming soon. Bear, who hasn’t played a game yet this season, wants to play, says Friedman, but the team has been unable to find a trade they like. According to Friedman, interested teams have asked Carolina to retain a certain percentage of Bear’s salary cap in order to create a trade package to the Hurricanes’ liking. Carolina, in turn, has told teams that they don’t plan to retain any cap given the fact that their reason for dealing Bear would not be at all cap related. Ultimately, as relayed by Friedman, the situation is expected to resolve itself shortly. It would seem at this point, if Carolina cannot get a better offer for the defenseman, their options would be to accept an offer they think is under-valued, put Bear on waivers, play him, or continue to scratch him, potentially doing harm to the relationship.

I humbly disagree & would never make that trade. KNIES in my opinion is an untouchable.

Ethan Bear may be available, seemingly for free. At a 2.2 cap hit it only makes sense if Muzzin is out indefinitely, but a RH modern two-way D, he can be a good target to round out the bottom pairing long term.

Reilly - Brodie
Gio - Lilly
Sandin - Bear
Holl

Would be a pretty solid group assuming Gio can hold up for a full season + Playoffs

No real grit on the back end, which admittedly would be a problem, but 6 good skating two-way smart D would be great at shutting teams down in transition.

Lowry would be awesome as our 3C. Big physical, decent enough hands and good defensively

Lowry would look great as our 3C, but at the current time Jets aren’t sellers, nor would it be expected for them to be at the deadline. They will try and hold on for a few more years before they decide to attempt any sell off.

Strange comments. The Leafs PP was #1 in the league last year.

They were 4th (of 16) in the league in GF/G in the playoffs last year.

Our first three loses against Tampa last year, we gave up 16 goals in three games. One game we give up seven goals, our goalie is nearly last In The playoffs in SV%, in the bottom half of playoff teams in the regular season too. Meanwhile we scored THREE goals in each of this losses. Just using these THREE goals a game in the loses, puts us in the top half of teams scoring in the playoffs. If you score three goals every game, and lose each of those games, goal scoring is NOT your problem.
Leafs offense does seem to dry up when it matters most.

Also the pp always flops in the playoffs

His break out pass isn't bad.

Last night he actually gave it to JT Miller a bit for making stupid blind back hand passes causing turnovers that hem them in the zone.

Wondering if Miller would like a mulligan on that contract now.

I was all for bringing Miller in to solidify our 2LW and I still think he would compliment JT well, but I’m starting to wonder if he’s part of the dysfunction in the Canuck locker room that was being whispered about last season before Travis Green was fired….

I think there is a possibility he is clashing but i dont think it is cut and dry if he is the specific problem or if it is clashing with the longer term 'relaxed' players

I do think it would get to miller nore than others though

I would definitely put the Chychrun package together to get Werenski. That guy would become our number one in short order.

JT Miller is an interesting proposition. You can tell he's a bad attitude, bad body language, abrasive teammate that you need in some moderation, but I don't know if he would work with our peace collective here.

Apparently it was a Horvat vs Miller type (and I guess some players have taken sides or stayed out of it) thing in the locker room last year.
