Is there any sort of report that states that Jeannot is available? Because I'd love to get him but I feel like its fan made rumors

Lmao you're so right. I'm convinced that we could get Tom Wilson and the corsi crowd would run him out of town too and would want him scratched by the 3rd game.

Our system / organization doesn't favor the bangers.

Martin, Simmonds and Ritchie just never worked here for the above reason it feels like. You also can't have just one of these guys and expect to be a "physical" team.

Leafs have Komarov, Fraser, Orr, McLaren and Phaneuf in that lock out shortened season, that team was one you didn't wanna mess with but didn't have top end talent.

Jeannot is a kind of komarov, the guy hit a lot, was able to get high production during 1 year and playing hard but come playoff, the only thing they can do is hitting... its not a kind of player who bring you scondary scoring or something like that. Just doing exactly what ZaR already doing but fan still considerate him like a huge upgrade

Jeannot feels like Matt Martin to me, everyone loves the idea of him and when he gets here chase him out of town
Jeannot scares the hell out of me because Nashville will want a premium for him when he rode a 21% shooting bender like crazy last year. People thinking this is a "down year" and that last year can be expected moving forward should be extremely cautious.

Is he a 6% shotter like this year? probably not, but even if he's league average or slightly above he's a physical 15-20 goal scorer for the middle/bottom of the lineup and you should pay that price accordingly.

An interesting article for sportnet and talk exactly about a huge issue we can see right now...like they said "Yes, they need a winger in the top-six to help them score, but nobody will score if they play too often in their own end."

Leafs are gonna get McCabe, do nothing else, then lose game 7 to Tampa 1-0. Can’t wait

And if that happens the blame should fall firmly at the feet of our 3x 11 million dollar forwards. Step up in a big moment, that's why we're paying them all this money - to put pucks in the net.

he's the Coleman/Wood player of this year, great players to have but yeah typically end up being an overpay for what you ultimately get

We will steal hear they need better defencemen

So does that mean you shouldn't add a forward for support? Imagine if Tampa used that logic instead of getting Coleman and Gaudreau?

If a player is going to be useless then he should be dealt

McCabe - Brodie
Rielly - Liljergen
Giordano - Holl

Is a very good defensive core. With that said, I can't wait to lose 2-1 because our forward suck at scoring and our goalies let in 2 softies

What do you think that will help leafs the most offensivly... bring a foward but purchase for the puck the biggest part of the game because you're unable to stop tampa cycling...

Or

Bring a dman who gonna help you to stop tampa cycling, stop tampa faster defensivly and playing more time in tampa territory

Whats kind of upgrade will really help the leafs the most offensivly? Whatever who you will bring in front thats will change absolutly nothing if you purchase the puck the big part of the game

The leafs had 0 scoring from players not including the big 4 + Rielly in game 5-7 against TB. When i look at that bottom 6, I don’t see anyone that I think will step up and score big goals. If you want to go on a run, you need depth scoring

McCabe isn’t a bad pickup, I think he completes the defensive core. But we absolutely need forward help

Yeah they need probably help there too but what is the biggeet need?

Still the D, you cant score without the puck

And i see 1 guy able to step up, hes already did it in SWEHL and its holmberg... i think he can have a similar kind of impavt than a colton

Johnston on the latest with Timo Meier:
You have teams like the Devils, the Rangers, Carolina, Toronto, and Buffalo — a number of teams are having discussions about Meier.

Johnston on the Leafs‘ approach to the deadline:

The Leafs are looking at players both at forward and on the blue line. I don’t think they are locked in on one specific aspect or one specific need. They just want to get the best player or players available with the cap space they have to improve their team. I think they are taking a broad view.

Johnston on the Leafs‘ deadline priorities:

I am of the opinion that the Leafs are going to be chasing one of the more high-impact forwards at this deadline to solidify their top six. I am not saying that isn’t the case, but someone reasonably close to the team — that is not someone inside the front office, to be clear — who knows what they are thinking to a degree suggested to me that he could see them making a more impactful move on their blue line.

It has given me pause. I have been kind of operating on the thought that we are talking, “Are they going to go get Ryan O’Reilly? How interested are they in Timo Meier? Would they potentially pay for whatever San Jose is going to need back to make it work?” Perhaps we should be focusing a little bit more on the defensemen available.

It sounds to me that at least a faction of the decision-makers in the organization think that it might be the best place to allocate whatever cap resources they have. It is more just to reframe the conversation. I am not saying that they are not in on a forward. But I think they are considering both.

Johnston on whether the Leafs have serious interest in Ryan O’Reilly:

He is definitely someone they’re monitoring and he is definitely a possibility. In their current cap situation, even with cap retention and everything, if you are making a trade for Ryan O’Reilly, I don’t know if you can then get an impactful D. Maybe they are shipping salary out in another deal. Maybe they end up doing both so my thought [about a forward] and my source’s thought is right. It is possible that is the case.

Right now, it almost looks like it is one or another in terms of a bigger addition just because there is not an endless amount of cap space there unless they are clearing out some.

It seems like a lot of guessing by CJ. It seems he doesn't have a great idea, but I'm getting a feeling Leafs will do both. He does say Leafs are having discussions about Meier.

I think Meier makes sense from the point of view that he drastically helps your chances of going on a serious run this season and if that doesn't happen, he also gives you the ability to move a core member and insert him.

It would also be interesting to see how a true power forward with elite skill can thrive with our style of play, playing with other elite talents and how valuable having that skillset in certain playoff matchups can impact outcomes.

"McCabe has a seven-team no-trade clause, which reportedly includes each Canadian team except for the Maple Leafs."

Even if we don't get him, I love that lol.

The thing with McCabe is if he's going to cost a first...just spend another first and a non-Knies prospect and get Chychrun, who has way more upside and would be a core player. They won't have cap room for an impact forward at that point anyways.

I'm not super interested in Rentals. I very much have the future in mind with any move we make. We have limited assets and prospects we give away are valuable. Barring we re-sign Matthews and Willy we could have a very long window and when JT comes off the books we will have even more space. Knies is going to be a perfect fit and we should definitely keep him. A big issue with this team come playoff time is our 2nd line LW and our 3rd line has to be better.

In terms of targets, I'm very interested in longer term with cheap AAV guys who are physical and can jump from 2LW to 3C. Laughton and Jenner would be my main targets. Both under 4 million and can play 3C or 2LW and play the style we need. If you are going to pay a high price for something, at least let it last us multiple years. Any guy we get who is decent but expiring contract is going to get paid and it will hurt other aspects of our team. We need to stay as deep and well rounded as possible if we want to win in the playoffs.

You keep repeating that advanced analytics is synonymous with soft. Tom Wilson is actually a solid player and the analytics show it.

The difference between “the Corsi crowd” and you is we want players who can play and not fizzle out when they get here.

Wait till you figure out how much cap space Toronto has. We can add 2 great pieces.
That wasn't my point , I know we have cap space.
Boston 13 pts up on us already.they are a great team already.
Now they can a Larkin type of flyer.
Then they are unstoppable.
That was my point!!!

Two grt pieces ????
3 mil apiece that isnt 2 great pieces
I got player 2 good players
