If we’re going after Hayton, Fischer would also be another name I’d be interest in acquiring.

Why? Fischer is not that good of a player?

He is pretty much ZAR 2.0 except ZAR actually has good defensive results. Fischer has been average at best and is one of the biggest offensive black holes in the league.

Lots of different ways to approach things.

I wouldn’t hate a move like Chychrun (price dependent obviously) but he’s not the guy I’d be eyeing first either. Obviously having him when the D starts actually getting healthy would he huge and he brings some offense to the backend, which contrary to popular belief is actually a big problem with our current defensive makeup. We are actually a lot better at keeping the puck out and chances down (minus rush) than we are at generating offense from the back end, which further increases the pressure on the top 6 as depth scoring has been kinda lousy so far this season.

I think there are probably more cost effective ways to address though.

I’m definitely concerned about our depth scoring ability. We need to either find better depth forwards before the playoffs or make a significant move in the top 6 that allows us to redistribute our offense across 3 lines effectively. The third line in particular is just not good enough right now.

Timmins for Curtis Douglas. Makes sense as we need a D body

A broken but once promising D, for a player massively disappointing in his sophomore year with the Marlies. I’m ok with it.

Rangers give away Ryan Reaves?

Thought he was key to their toughness?

They have a multiple amount of toughness/grit and are better players on the 4th line. Meanwhile, Minnesota just got Reaves to go along with Foligno/Greenway/Hartman/Middleton/Dumba.

Leafs are the only team who could care less about any grit or toughness. I cant wait till Dubas is gone

I actually think Timmins could grow into a fine bottom pair d. Would have liked to keep Douglas but I'm fine with the trade.

Usage matters. When he was used offensively, he produced respectable numbers. Since he’s been jammed in a ridiculously tough defensive situation, he stopped scoring.

He is a decent skater who protects the puck extremely well. He’s also got good hands and vision. He doesn’t have the speed or high end skill to create on his own, but he’d be a good match with Tavares on the cycle. More playmaker than scorer.

He wasn't useless, but we don't have too many good throw away contracts right now. Gogolev and Rindell were really it, and we just signed Rindell to a contract.

Last year it was looking like SDA may have been a throw away while Douglas had legit potential. The tables have turned.

Didn't understand the Max Ellis ELC either, 5'9 wing...did we need that? Rather have the contract slot.

Meh. These all sound like shuffling deck chairs. IMO Marner's gone in the summer so we can refocus our cap space on some of those key secondary pieces we cannot afford now (ie Hyman, Marchment, etc).

Marner is going nowhere
He will not be traded

The only good thing this year when we get put out in the first round is the end of shanty Dubas and Keefe. We keep getting the bottom of the barrel pieces. In order for this team to be successful we need 3 scoring lines. Engval KERFOOT waste of cap and contract. Zar kampf janrok no offense.

Also speaking of bottom six players, I hope Dubas has been in talks with Kampf’s agent. Kampf is definitely a guy we should be looking to extend.

Maybe something along the lines of 5 years at 2.25 million per?

If the term is 5-7 years you could potentially see Kampf go under 2 mil aav.

I'd do it.
