For a guy who often buzzes around and does jack, Kerfoot has an awful lot of job security.

He has no scoring touch or hockey sense. Can skate and stick handle decent enough to be a third liner but apart from that, he can't score on any breakaways if his life depended on it. Frustrating player.

Joshua is finally finding his stride.. starting to play well..

It is one of those weird ones where you would have to give vancouver incentive to get rid of a cheap big versatile fourth line guy who is cheap
Wish they just signed him outright this summer. There could be bad blood there though.

Kerfoot looks like a skills development coaches dream. It's not even like he doesn't have hockey sense. He does, but its not impactful in the least. Just don't really want to watch him on a nightly basis.

Often doesn't pay off to draft these big project players who are 8-10 years out from a possible NHL career, but if you have the pro scouting you can find someone else's Dakota Joshua on the free agency bin.

I know the need at forward is scoring but Dakota Joshua in Vancouver would be a smart target to play 4C and move Kampf up to 3C. Joshua was an analytics darling last year in 4th line minutes and he's top 20 in hits/60 the last 2 years (min 200mins played). He's signed through next season at 825k. This is all assuming Vancouver is willing to move off of anyone.

Moving Kampf up to 3C could allow the Leafs to dress Robertson as 3LW with Kampf covering the middle of the ice.

Former Leafs draft pick too.

I'd have no issue adding him.BUT Id rather add someone more offensive minded to the 3rd line than Kampf (who I love, but has to focus on his shutdown role)

Hey Dubas, how about a trade sending Kerfoot to Winnipeg for DeMelo?

Both players could use a change of scenery. We could use an experienced D-man and they could use a forward, all due to injuries.

Neither player replaces the injured players directly, however they fill in for them as is needed. Cap hits are around the same I think.

Just a suggestion. Flame away!

Gino Reda: They are the insiders Chris Johnston, Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger. Jake Muzzin, T.J. Brodie and now Morgan Rielly – the Leafs top three minute-eaters on the blue line all out. In a pre-cap era, it's fixable. But what do they do now, Chris?

Chris Johnston: Well, they can't just wave a magic wand unfortunately because they're facing a couple of different challenges when it comes to addressing the roster, the first being the fact that it looks like they have tons of cap room with Morgan Rielly added to long-term injured reserve. But they have to protect that space for when he's back somewhere early in the new year. And beyond that fact they're carrying 50 contracts at this point in time, that means they would have to subtract that body to bring in anybody even if it was a cheaper depth addition. And so they've tried to perhaps address that by putting Wayne Simmonds on waivers Tuesday. No guarantees he's picked up though he passed through waivers earlier in the season and so they might be forced – in this case the Leafs – to grin and bear it.

Gino Reda: One of the reasons it's so hard to make a deal right now is the asking price for available talent. Is there a better example of the high cost of talent that Jakob Chychrun who returned to Arizona's lineup on Monday night, Pierre?

Pierre LeBrun: Played north of 23 minutes by the way, I wonder how many teams notice that. It is a high price and listen, I think it's important to understand why Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong is asking for two first-round picks plus either a prospect or a young NHL player in any deal for Jakob Chychrun. Number one, I think he's looked at the Hampus Lindholm deal from a year ago where Anaheim got a first-round pick and two seconds for an older player who was a pending UFA and ends up going to Boston, of course the Bruins signed him. There's the Brandon Hagel deal Chicago getting two first-round picks for Hagel because of his cheap cap and Chychrun is young, he's got a bargain contract and if history shows us anything in terms of the Darcy Kuemper trade where Arizona got a first and a young player and a third. Bill Armstrong is going to stick to his price.

5. Conor Timmins' AHL conditioning stint ends Wednesday. Injuries are his biggest problem, but there's no denying his talent. Arizona plays hard, and that's made it even tougher for him to get in when healthy. I think there's some interest elsewhere, and we will see where this goes. He’s got the OHL Sault Ste. Marie history, which means everyone wonders if Toronto is on the radar. It makes sense for the Maple Leafs, because he’s not hard to handle with their tight cap and injury-related defensive holes.

From 32 thoughts.
Elliotte connecting us to Timmins too

Maybe he can be the next Ilya Lyubushkin, Coyotes defenseman for us.

Timmins is a two way 6’2” RHD, not very physical but is a low risk bet for us compared to the steep prices around the league.

There's a reason why Timmin's is potentially available and not overly expensive

He's a walking band aid and I'm not sure bringing in a guy with an horrendous injury History to replace guys with injury problems is a great plan

Speaking of guys with injury history, I think we should at least look into Erik Karlsson. If you can get a double retention, it could be a real home run swing. What seemed like a video game idea is growing on me.

Calle, Kerfoot, and Engvall are all meh.
Kerfoot is a waste of space.
Calle and Engvall actually is solid in D and for just a little over 2mil is fair.

Would definitely look at trading Kerfoot and one of Calle and Engvall.

Can’t touch Holl now since the big three in D are all out.

Putting Gio and EK will be tough on Gio.

I really don’t see we have another fit with EK.

I do think it would be a smart move (hint, hint) to source other orgs stalled big bodied defense prospects who still have potential. Especially if you've got an aversion to drafting these type of defenders.

Edit: But that should have happened a couple of years ago.

These Timmins rumours make zero sense, even though he’s a RHD. The most games played at the pro level dates back to the 2019/2020 season where he only played 40 AHL games. He’s played a total of 8 NHL games in the past two seasons. Why take on the responsibility of a player with that kind of injury history already. Seems like Timmins is one hit away from a career ending injury.

If we’re talking to Arizona, McBain, Hayton, Crouse and Chychrun are the only names I’d have interest in.

Who is supposed to have the best defensemen line-up in the NHL?

Which team has such a good top 6 that no one can break into it?

Like the Leafs line-up is dependent on the oldest skater in the league to ice a full corps.
