Adding Mccabe to the deal makes it a lot harder to add guys come next year with that 4 mil cap hit. Dont think we are willing to give Holl 4 mil aav and not even sure if Mccabe will be as solid as Holl is for us. I think we leave the defense as is unless Sandin is the necessary piece in a deal around adding a guy with term.

Share a source or please don't mention rumblings.
Ill mention whatever I want. Here are some articles I found with a quick google search.

NHL Rewind: Vladimir Tarasenko scores in Rangers debut, Sidney Crosby gets tossed vs. Kings

One Former Player Believes Patrick Kane Would Play In Toronto

I believe the rumblings are coming from Carlo Colaiacovo so who knows.

The reality is Kane does really have complete control of where he goes and it does make sense that he would want to go to the Leafs given his clear respect for Marner and Matthews with things hes said during interviews. He clearly was pissed about the rangers Tarasenko trade with his comments to the media. Seems like it would make sense we are his top choice.

Wasn't Giroux one of the players actually worked out ?

He had 23 points in 18 games and then 8 points in 10 games
I think he means that they traded assets for no reason seeing as they were eliminated by Tampa in the second round with ease.

That's fair but still can't see how that Giroux's fault
Does that mean Hagel trade panned out?

Everyone here said apparently Tampa overpaid for Hagel

But the reality it was not overpaid... just some fan who give 1st round too much value

Thinking a 1st round who you like 20% to get a hagel and less than 5% to get a better player and 75% to get a worst in 4-5-6 years... having as much value of 100% of getting a pretty good player in hagel at low salary

Who says no if we traded Topi Niemela and a 2nd for Barbashev?

It would still leave assets and space to add Toews or a mid level defenseman.(mcabe, Murphy)

Hagel wasn't a veteran rental though. He was a young player with upside on a cheap deal which was attractive to Tampa cause they needed the cap flexibility. In a vacuum the trade package was too much given that big stars net that kind of return, but it's obviously panning out well now.

Its a big no...

Why not just trading for a guy like oskar sundqvidt who will bring pratically the same thing barbashev bringing come playoff time at 1/5 of barbashev price

3 up and one down.

But there is Sandin and Liljegren extentsions to think of too, so.......I think Sandin might be the one traded.
I'm curious what you think the actual numbers should be for the 4 forwards.

Good on Chicago for knowing what they had and sticking to their price on Hagel. It's been a slam dunk trade for both teams.

It makes me uneasy. I get his good regular season performance last year, but 3 goals in 50 playoff GP - he disappears.

I don't mind the player but that's a relatively high cost. Lehkonen, who's vastly out produced him in playoff production, went for a very similar cost (2nd + Justin Barron, a former 1st round D prospect).

The Blue Jackets are delusional if they think they're going to get some sucker team to pay 3 assets including a 1st round pick for Gavrikov. I bet he doesn't even get moved.

He will easily get a 1st and a 3rd and maybe more because they allowing gavrikov to talk with other team about an potential extension...

Every name is out there to us. Absolutely anyone who is a candidate to be moved is linked to us.

Every pundit wanting hits has someone linked to us lol

That's what you want from a GM though right? To call about everybody... the more info, the better decisions you can make. It doesn't have to mean we have serious interest, but you've gotta make those calls.

Something I've never quite understood - why don't teams allow players to talk with other teams about extensions more often? If it means they get more back in the trade, why not?

But could get Chicago to retain on him and maybe get him at 2-2.5 million per year instead. I would be willing to add more assets to have a good Dman signed for two more years at 2 million
