You all already know I'm simping for Kane, but one thing he should improve also worries me...

He should be on that #1 power play, but that also means we'd likely have to run 5 forwards to make everyone happy...which is also something I can see Tampa totally exploiting during the playoffs(scoring short handed goals).
That's what would make me hesitant in trading for Kane. I'd ideally like to see the team acquire a top six forward who won't require PP1 time in order to be truly effective (I'm assuming the team isn't looking to split the PP units evenly).

Yes, Kerfoot is a UFA. If we can upgrade on him, or a sideways move that brings in a bit more size and grit.. I'm for it.

But Kerfoot has provided very good value for his contract, and compared to similar contracts. What six points in seven games two years ago in the playoffs, and around 0.5 PPG for his contract. yes, that's good depth offense for his contract. Probability is you get nothing from anyone on the Marlies offense.

Well, hopefully he takes a time machine back a couple years because this year he's been brutal finishing offensively.

He appears to be driving offense, but he's driving into deadend streets.

He was normally about 10-11 % shooting, nows he's at 7.8, and just killing offense when he shoots.

The Leafs could offer Knies, Sandin and 2 1sts and the Devils could say hold my beer and send a better offer.

I guess that is contingent on if the Devils truly want him. But in this case, it would have to be an overpay to beat out the Devils whether they want him or whether the Sharks use the Devils as leverage.

I dont think its a problem... you can get exemple

Matthews-marner-jt-rielly and bunting on 1st pp

nylander-kane-sandin-holmberg and an other one and you get 2 pp line who can really hurt by different way

... so, expect a couple losses for us then, eh?
Hahaha maybe but habs was also pretty trash 1st 40 min and still dominated hawks

Because either way that's a joke.

Starting high in a negotiation is fine but no one should come even close to biting on that. He's worth maybe 1 2nd max. A 3rd sure.

I don't get the love for that player.

True enough and if they do they'll regret it.
I don't see what the joke is.

Nope. The Leafs are arguably in the best cap situation of any contending team in the league and analysts (and HFboards) will have you believe we've been mismanaging the cap for years.

When Dubas realized he was going to have to figure out extensions for the big-3 he structured or acquired every big supporting deal (besides Rielly) so that we'd have large sums coming off the same year to ensure we have the money to extend them.
Does, you know, winning the Stanley Cup figure anywhere into the equation?

Forget Kane. Leafs need a player with grit, defensively responsible and plays heavy. Similar to Bunting. Or similar to Zach Hyman. Can't score goals if no one is willing to do the heavy board work to get the puck in the first place.

And you dont scored goal in anynof your player having offensive tool to make it... put bunting on a 3rd line and remove half of his pts whatever how hard hes working .... just watch jarnkrok, its a great exemple of it

Put kane on a 3rd line, everyone around him instantly become better... kerfoot, kampf, engvall, holmberg, jarnkrok,

be happy if u even land a 1st and move on. He's pretty overrated imo.
That's what I'm saying. Both New York teams have already traded a 2023 1st. There are non-rental names like Meier, Chychrun, and McCabe who would warrant one more, and I'd say O'Reilly is more likely to fetch one as well among rentals. If CBJ has a first available to them at all, the deal should be done.

Everyone keeps saying this but NJ has all but come out saying they're not trading Nemec or Hughes. Their assets fall off a cliff after that besides Mercer and who knows if they're willing to include him.

I truly believe we could top their deal if they refuse to add those 3 to it depending on how SJ feels about Holtz vs. Knies.

Personally I don't see why Meier is going to be so accommodating on an extension, other than just hopeful optimism. He could get that contract by any team - he could potentially even get much higher options.

Nylanders actually spent his entire career with the Leafs and is on record saying he likes living and playing in the city.
Come on man! What's he going to say? "I don't like it and I can't wait to get out of here"?

It's just playerspeak.

That's what you want from a GM though right? To call about everybody... the more info, the better decisions you can make. It doesn't have to mean we have serious interest, but you've gotta make those calls.
I hope dubas does everything he can to make us better without selling the farm

My point is the pundits link everyone to us. If johnny smith gets waived inevitably some pundit will say leafs are looking at him to just get hits.

If we want Meier, it means trading Nylander this offseason. Meier is a dynamite player (who is having a career year and we must be cautious about overpaying), but if we trade a boatload of futures and as an additional consequence have Bunting and Kampf walk, that's just gutting our depth for a shiny new toy. Meier would be a great fit and is the kind of physical scoring force that we're looking for, but depth has constantly been our undoing and adding another big name will just make the problem worse.

I'd be fine with acquiring Meier and then trading Nylander once he's free to sign an extension with the new team in order to recoup the futures and restore balance to the lineup. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that if Bunting and Kampf walk this summer, we've fully lost the plot. We need to start hanging on to some of our valuable depth guys, because building around a core of 4 stars is right at the centre of why this thing hasn't worked so far. Quality depth isn't a blind spot, but it hasn't been prioritized and it needs to be.

Yes it seems to be. They have no reason to put an exact sticker price out there.
Columbus only motivation is to put themselves in the best position to draft Bedard.
Players will be dumped by the 3rd.

If their only motivation is to put themselves in the best position to draft bedard (which I agree, it is) then they should be motivated to take a reasonable offer as soon as possible. This point kinda works against your previous one imo

Does anyone recall seeing an article in which Kane mentioned that if he were to be traded, he wants to keep his number on that new team?

What car dealer sells used for more than new?

In Alberta, go to any Toyota dealership and look at the price of used Rav4's and then check out the price of new ones.

It’s a fallacy that we don’t have players who will do this. Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares all dig in on the boards. I’d be happy to get more, but it’s not a strong need. Our team needs bottom 6 help, the top 6 is generally good to go.

That said, I still advocate for acquiring top 6 level talent. But at that point I would like to see our talent split into 3 legitimate scoring lines, with Kampf and company following them up on the 4th.
