What's good for the trade market might not be so good for the free agent market. More players would have to be amenable in forgoing the UFA market. Teams would also be giving up potential trade assets for players they might be able to acquire a relatively short time later for "free" (cap space).Something I've never quite understood - why don't teams allow players to talk with other teams about extensions more often? If it means they get more back in the trade, why not?
